[PICS & REVIEW] Donald Glaude & Christopher Lawrence @ Beach Club

i didn't really know much about this event from the flyers at ruby skye plus the venue is a brand new 18+ venue attached to the back of paramount's great america, an amusement park in santa clara. all i knew was 12pm-9pm saturday: cl & dg were gonna be there and so was i. 3 o'clock rolls around and i'm ready to head out but i'm waiting on some people so i don't end up getting there until ~4:30. the cover ended up being 25, which isn't bad for 9 hours of sick beats, plus access to a beach pool, slides, rides and rollercoasters if you wanted. but the important thing was the place was spacious, private--isolated from the kiddie-side of the amusement park, clean, well laid out, plenty of tables, benches, lounge chairs and shade to relax in, a VERY NICE outdoor sound system that slumped even from the private changing rooms on the other side of 'boomerang bay'. my main concern though was the 18+, but when i got there even the people at the security check up front were going on and on about how many girls there were inside and "you're gonna have a good time, you're gonna have a good time!!". ok sounds good...

well it was definitely much higher than my expectation and i did leave impressed and thoroughly satisfied for my money: both for the music and the experience. the crowd was great, a very mixed group of partiers, lots of HOT girls walking around all over the place--even the cops will agree, a strong police, security and emt presence to prevent any incidents from occurring, and with success... i didn't see any fights, arrests, od's or people acting stupid. it was a very positive, mature crowd... after being in the crowd for like 30 sec i was like, damn... this party has a very wmc-ish atmosphere to it! the weather was perfect: still about 80 degrees around 5pm, clear skies with a breeze so you could really just dance there for 9 hours straight and not break a sweat if you wanted to. and dress code was bikinis and board shorts so that was nice. for me the drink and food lines were a 2 person wait max cause they were all around, and drinks weren't outrageous... $5.50 for domestic beer and $3 for water. the music was off the hook when i got there. glaude was playing daft punk as i walked in and spun a good amount of 80s house over the next hour, some sick rhcp remix, then deeper/scratchier stuff towards the end. christopher lawrence gets on at 7 and the crowd is going nuts, half for glaude, half for lawrence. donald glaude being the awesome guy that he is crowd surfs and mingles around the beach club pretty much til the very end. lawrence played a pounding trance set and fed it to a sf house music crowd who was really feeling it. i heard a bunch of 'omg i love this dj' remarks around the crowd into the night. and the best part was how loud and rowdy the crowd got the last 30 min or so as dusk was coming in. so yeah the event seemed like a major success to me, the flyer said this attraction was just built to bring BIG NAME djs to the area so i'm VERY EAGER to see what's in store for this little corner of the park in the near future. anyway, on with the pics...

$25 cover and 9 hours (noon-9) of pounding music at a brand new venue in the south bay... massive outdoor sound system, awesome party crowd, hella breezies, adult water park and nonstop sick beats... it had a very wmc-ish atmosphere to it

Yeah WMC-ish is the best to describe this event....killer vibe, drinks, venue, and banging beats.

Rich we need to party one of these times because we both went to JXL, Markus, and the Beach party with C.Lawrence and D.G. -- 3 massive events this weekend.

I think I saw you with 2 friends coming to the smoke area for a drink near midnight at the Mezz while me and the girl I was with were haning out but I wasn't sure if it was you so I didn't say whatsup -- next time I will for sure.

As for the beach party -- what a perfect end to a killer weekend.

Review, pics, and a couple vids tomorrow. (one of C.L. playing Marcel Woods - Advanced and the whole crowd going nuts)

goood times

EDIT: damn after going thru your pics i did see you in the white Alibi shirt...but I was faded as fuck and wasn't sure if it was you -- again

hah, you were there too? i almost didn't go cause momu & junkie xl back-to-back with markus & dekay left me pretty drained and sore by the time i got up today. we got there around 4:30-5 and glaude was already on so i missed farina once again. i would have totally been in the water if i got there at noon, but the weather was perfectly cool to just dance sweat-free so i did (a lot like love parade weather). i can't wait to see this venue book more djs... lawler? sasha? tenaglia? i wanna see the place filled to the security check

btw advanced was awesome, the crowd was mostly a glaude/sf house crowd when christopher lawrence gets on and he drops it 2-3 tracks into his set and you see all these people goin nuts to the beat and not knowing how it goes

i can relate...this weekend kicked my ass -- infact we left the mezz pretty early.

the girl i was with knows the owners of mixed elements and they said they are doing another one of these in Aug or Sept -- can't wait to see who they book. And I deffinitely could tell it was a house crowd but still had a great vibe.

next event i will deffinitely say whatsup....think we are going to crystal method at ruby next Saturday

and of course tiesto / ruby's 6th anniversary the following weekend

Posted by R!CH on May-14-2006 09:42:

not sure if i'm doing crystal method next weekend or paolo mojo, these weekends are getting expensive, i need to think about the hole tiesto+tiesto+halliwell is gonna burn in my pocket the week after

Posted by R!CH on May-14-2006 09:46:

energy 92.7 was there, hopefully this means some sets were recorded/will be broadcasted later...

i turn 25 sunday so thats why im going to make it out to crystal method...that and i haven't seen them in over 4 years.

memorial day weekend will be sick...for me tho its

Fri tiesto
Sat no more tix so will either have to work my way in or do something near home
Sun halliwell

as for the beach club more pics/vids tomorrow but heres Advanced (150MB for 2 mins -- damn resolution and my laziness to shrink it!)

lol, the park closes at 9pm and there was a shittonne of security and staff that wanted to break down, clean up and go home but the crowd keep chanting ENCORE/ONE MORE (funny hearing 2 diff things chanted in unison). the guy in charge let him play another encore after 9 but of course the crowd chanted again after that so the only way they were gonna get him off the stage was to make a joke out of it. so security went up and fake cuffed him and led him off the stage while the crowd boo'ed

HAha That was halarious when that happened! Enjoyed the whole event but was only able to catch Donald and Cl of course. Christopher was telling me he was bummed out because they dropped the decibles way low towards the end of the night. He played lots of wicked tunes!! These are the tracks i know.
Rich, thanks for sporting the Alibi shirt, you rock!!

Tracks he played (not in order)

Exocet- Nicholas bennison
Third time lucky- Astrix & Joof
Distorted reality- Nok
Advance - marcel woods
Landmark- Vibrasphere (sick track)
Critical mass-colin barret
Delirious- astrix
I cant stop- jan loper

Here are my pics... it was a great party, although I would have been better if it went to 2am. I dont think Great America would allow that.

I guess the next pool party will be at the Ibiza Hotel in Oakland with DJ DAN, Kaskade, Andy Caldwell, and more...

Oh I also got some videos that will be up later today..

nice pics, if beach club was open till 2, it'd probably be THE HOTTEST venue in the south bay. seriously any time you mix outdoor + water + music, you can't fail. i'm sure there's some sort of sound ordinance though, i think i see homes in the background of some of my pics.

anyone been to ibiza hotel? any good?

I know that guy wearing the black tank top and bald. He plays congas at various club spots in the bay. Resty is his name. Cool chap. haha

DAMN! I thought I was gonna hear that this sucked balls, but apparently it went really well. It was my girls' Bday, so I spent all weekend with her, and was not able to make this pool party. Now I know Great American CAN throw parties that arent total disasters. I saw CL and Glaude on the ticket and was like WTF, that should be amazing just by default, but I was weary about the venue. Now i know, swimsuits + music + pool = FUN where ever.

Lex good seeing you at the Mezz for markus, he threw down! Dekay wasnt bad at all either.

oh damn, toolman, that was you??? i recognized you but i totally thought you were someone else lol! yeah markus and matthew played very nice sets, but i felt really bad for markus the way most of the crowd just left (probably for pvd) around 3...
