Stupid Girls

So I saw this episode on Oprah a few weeks ago and it aired again tonight (yeah TV is a bit behind here haha). The episode featured Pink
and a woman who used to star in various music videos as a video "hoe". This woman basically sold her indentity when she went onset and became an "object" of the music video industry. The episode basically discusses how being dumb, and mimicking many of these hollywood celebrities is what the generation of young teenage girls in North America is.

This episode sparked a reminder of just how stupid girls can be in today's pop culture society. I mean.....guys, do you honestly find a girl that can't even be herself as an individual in the way she dresses to be attractive? Is being stupid considered sexy nowadays? I know this problem doesn't tend to be as big with our musical scene but let's face it....the world around us is experiencing this problem.

Sorry if there's already a discussion on it (as that episode was a bit old)

I wasn't talking about what society considers...I'm talking about what YOU consider yourself.

Hey if you want to think she's sexy, go right ahead....I just always thought being able to carry out a conversation with someone was a good trait as well

P.S. I've seen her in real life, she's not that hot....

Posted by Stingray on May-14-2006 13:18:

I know Kelly I was just messing around.

Personally I consider it a major turnoff. If we cant have an intelligent conversation then just go away.

AHAHHAHA Cam.

So simple, yet so effective.

Posted by Fir3start3r on May-14-2006 15:16:

You see it all the time here in the Rosedale area.
Especially those big fuzzy winters boot with the little fuzzy poms poms and shorts??

Holding a conversation or at least having a brain of their own helps.
Nothing's worse when their convictions are those of the (girl)pack or the thoughts du jour from the one eyed brain sucker (the T.V.).
So fake.

I'm so glad I have my wife; she's intelligent AND sexy

[EDIT]
I saw that Pink video, "Stupid Girl"; great video!

Posted by naillil on May-14-2006 16:00:

I think the opposite is true too ... I have never been attracted to a stupid guy who can't hold intelligent conversations. MAJOR turnoff!!

Posted by Rodrico on May-14-2006 16:06:

I think in this forum, you are going to find a tough time finding a response towards guys who favour beauty before intelligence. But I've seen a lot of guys who in fact favour going after girls who are less smarter then them at clubs, because intelligent women sometimes intimidate them, or down right dont share any interest in what their drunk asses have to say. And as you said with these pop culture icons (Spears, Hilton, Simpson), beauty is regarded as means of aquiring power and success as opposed to intelligence and hardwork.

In regards to your other question, I think girls can dress very attractive without being seen as slutty or stupid. I guess it all comes in style and how you carry yourself in the end. I generally dont like to prejudge someone based on their apparel but at most times a guy can tell if its more a cry for attention than actually wearing something to be sexy. If anything, I always found that clothing is a statement of a person's character...and sexy doesnt always mean its lacking individualism.

no theyre just a lot easier to bone then a chick that respects herself

edit: also after sex theyre more likely to shut the fuck up and go make u a sandwhich rather then lie there and discuss theyre views on microbiology and its effects on soon to be extinct penguins in the north west territories

...then there's some of us who just don't care...lol

just hope your dick doesn't fall off, cause she's probably not going to know or tell you while she's gettin' that sandwich...

Posted by geroin on May-14-2006 17:30:

some stupid girls atract but what happenes is that men tend to have sex with them and throw them away, thats how they become sluts and eventually pornstars
smart girls are the ones you keep
hopefully that answers your question

Kellz, I totally understand what you mean...it's the pop culture, and consumer-generated/mass-produced goods society too

girls are like that because they watch too much of stupid Canadian tv and follow everything they see back in high-school

in terms of beauty/stupidity - there are exceptions to this rule though

They watch too much stupid American TV as well....I grew up on the good old American TV but luckily I didn't get sucked into the pop culture as a teenager. Too many girls get so wrapped up in trying to be like those celebrities, they lose sight of who they really are.

It was kind of funny...when my mother and I were watching this episode of Oprah I asked her during commercials "Mom....I wonder how different I would have been if I wouldn't have gotten into dance music and it's whole underground culture and just listened to hip hop and pop music" she quickly cuts me off and goes "I'm quite glad you didn't, and don't want to think about if you had" ahahah

it's not what you listen to - i listen to russian pop even now sometimes, I had all Backstreet Boys/Spice Girls albums as well as Britney's first 2 albums, yet I'm *me*

it's how those girls are brought up at home, how much interest they take in outside world - since I came here 3 years ago, it seems like ppl here (and not just females) have more interest in tonight's episode of Simpsons/Family Guy/Seinfield/insert the name of any other show then in what's happening just over the ocean or across the border

if girls or boys are influenced so highly by some bunch of crap that they are told on tv/see in movies, it's just shows the level of intelligence that is present in them

Look at all these teenagers that listen to "hip pop" music....and watch the videos on MTV. Tell me those videos aren't affecting the way they view themselves. If you are constantly bombarded with images of women being treated like objects and men referrng to them as "bitches and hoes", how is that not going to affect you growing up? Even when I was living in a dorm the girls I lived with were into pop culture and sure enough, they acted like this...relying on celebrity styles and referring to each other as "bitch or slut or whore". These kids are intelligent, it's just so many are raised by TVs and spend so much time immersed in that world of television that they forget they are living their own lives.

I'm not a feminist by all means....but I do believe that if kids are raised on images that media today projects, it won't do anything for their views on each other in the future.

no hun, i totally agree!

but if you keep your head up above it all, i'm sure you manage to stay *normal*...the whole hip/hop culture has been around as long as the pop-culture...well ok, some of the negative stuff about it has been surfacing much more in the recent 5-10 years

it is pretty sad how really young teenage girls, like 13-14 go around looking like they are retired hoe's - all the bling bling, and make up and all the dirty talk, it's almost pathetic actually!

i honestly think TV being probably greatest creation of the mankind, is also its worst

I find intelligent women superior to dumb, ignorant, whatever you want to call it less inclined girls.

I think of it as mental foreplay..

i totally agree with you. imo your parents will have the strongest influence on who you are and what your personality is like....anything else like the meida, what kind of music you listen to etc is just icing on the cake

oh definitely!

in my country we have a saying - an apple doesn't fall far off the apple tree, meaning you can't get away from the upbringing of your parents

This is true....but when your parents stick you infront of a TV and expect that to raise you...you are raised by the media.

that means parents don't give a shit, that's their way of upbringing you, which is not good

when I was growing up, mum would actually limit my TV watching time, and she wouldn't let me watch some shows either

she would either kick me out to play in the fresh air or take me out and about the town or beach

Same here, me and my brother were allotted an hour a night that we could watch TV... so we had to pick what we wanted to watch wisely.

Exactly. Its a matter of seeing the reality. Just bc you watch it and see it on tv , doesn't mean you need to emulate it and think its right. Yes that seems to happen, but things can mitigate that occurrence, such as parents (and I believe thats their job to do or not to do, as they see fit)

Calling all this rap and pop shit crap and saying kids shouldn't watch it bc of what is does doesnt fly with me.

We're smart ppl (or should be), we cant keep passing the fucking buck and blaming the TV or Britney Spears for the shit our kids do in society. We are capable of not conforming if thats what we wish and what society values.

obviously conformation to this isn't frowned upon on the whole as it is perpetuated everywhere you look.

I dont think its necessarily horrible, it just is. I guess some others dont like it (ie. many of us) and thus we complain about it. I wouldn't wanna be like that myself, so I dont let myself. Thats as far as my worry extends on this matter.
