Has Anyone Had Their TONSILS removed?
okk
i had my tonsils removed only 6 days ago and those 6 days have been the worst of my life...
i have bled every single day and today began gushing blood out of my mouth and therefore was rushed to ER. subsequently, i was re-cauterized by the ENT doctor and sent home. i'm extremely thirsty and hungry but fear swallowing will only start the bleeding again.
if you are planning on having a tonsillectomy i strongly recommend that you don't, it is not worth the risk nor the pain
as for others who have already had it done can you please discuss your experience. thx
Wow. Sounds like a rough time. Get better, mang.

I had a similar experience.... but mine went worse.
After the 5th day of slight bleeding on of the scars fell of and started to gush. Aannnnnd it didnt stop. We went to the ENT's office and he attempted to cauterize it there... all to no avail due to my severe gage reflex. So the doc had me lay down and suck on a medication cube of sorts (I never heard what it was). About 15 minutes later I puked up nothing but blood and coagulated blood cells. It was into an emesis basin... and so it was approx 1.4 pints. (I couldnt eat or drink much that day due to the pain so it was probably 90% blood) This is when the doc got worried. The bleeding wasnt letting up at all... and had to call the hospital to schedule an emergency surgery. En-route to the hospital I puked up more blood and crap (roughly the same amount). Got to the hospital, went immediately to the surgery prep where I puked blood again and was rushed off to surgery.
Talk about suck.
Needless to say it was one pesky vessel in the back that wouldnt scab over and was like an open faucet into my stomach. It sucked. That was 2 years ago when I was 22. Dont think I will ever forget about, and I would also suggest to anyone that needs to do it..... get it done young. The older you get, the more complications and pain can/will arise.
geezus that's more blood than during a donation...

I had mines taken out last august
hurt like an asshat let me tell ya!
basically can't eat for a week and jello gets old QUICK!
also that myth about eating the all ice cream you want is FALSE!
ice cream creates phlegm in your throat which you have ultimately clear out and clearing your throat after you've taken your tonsils out...sucks hahah hurts really badly so i'd advise staying away from the ice cream
good luck and learn to love that liquid codiene
Got mine out when I was young,, no problem at all, and I got to eat icecream for like 2 weeks afterwards so it wasn't bad!
If you are an adult and have had your tonsils removed using electocautery go do a google search for:
Coblation tonsillectomy
You will want to go kick your ENT in the balls for not using this method on you.
eat lots of popsicles! it helped soothe my throat a bit after i got my tonsils out.

The wife had hers taken out about 3 years ago. She said it was very nasty stuff. Several doctors wanted to take mine out when I was kid because I got a strep infection about 4 times per year, but I finally grew out of it. Still have them today, but they could be eaten up with cancer for all I know.
SoutherSun, what is in your avatar? I want that in my bedroom.
