Sympatico Internet Faster?

My internet is going 500 k today, and my max is 315, its been doing this all day already, youd think it would be a one hour thing, but i dunno, anyone else got their internet goin nice and fast? hopefully its permanent

Mine is going faster as well. I was wondering as well what the hell is going on, but i'm enjoying it while it lasts.

Posted by Adamo on May-16-2006 17:55:

rogers recently increased speeds, possibly bell is now doing the same.

Posted by AwakenedAddict on May-16-2006 18:05:

You have high-speed DSL?

I have sympatico ultra-high-speed DSL @ home.. regularly dowloads ~500kb/s. I hope I got a boost too maybe to ~750kb/s

only in some areas though.

i know bell sympatico is offering a new system, hence maybe that is why all you bell people are experiencing an increase.

my upload speed is still only 360kbpm

per second i meant. anywhere btw 350-400. which isn't really good.

nice, enjoy those of you who can benefit from this... not everybody gets to benefit from having a short loop line and very little noise on it.

/4200 metres from dslam in my area, cannot get stable connection of higher than about 2mbps

I've actually been noticing odd outages where my net will just crap out for a second or so and re-connect.

But, I HAVE noticed higher speeds which is great. Hopefully it sticks around.

Regular high speed here.

bell has been doing upgrades since march

now normal HSE is 5mbps. if your line can handle it, the upgrade will come automatically, which means that you're not too far away from the CO and your inside wiring is in good shape.

if you dont get the upgrade before the end of the month, make sure to call sypmatico and ask why.

right now, ultra isnt being upgraded speed-wise, but i think they get some like free anti virus crap or something like that.

but it only makes sense that the speed upgrade will come soon. either that, or ultra will have no caps and hse will have a cap. i think this is what happened in quebec

Posted by Chris Allen on May-16-2006 19:44:

You'd think it would be the other way around really: Ultra first, High Speed second... I mean, as it is right now there's not much difference between the two.

Not too much impulse to switch from regular to Ultra atm.

That's fcuking retarded... free anti-virus software instead of upgrading the speed of the line as they are doing with regular high speed.

So highspeed and ultra highspeed now have the same download speed?

does that mean this is permanent? *crosses fingers*

I have regular high speed, obviously if my average is 315 kbps its not super high ultra speed... but if this is permanent, if someone works or heard anything from sympatico, please inform this is great news

exactly. i read something along the lines that when the upgrade to ultra comes, that itll probably be 6 or 7 mbps. but the upgrade probably wont start until after summer

im not sure if it is something like free anti virus or something. i just remember reading a thread on it at dslreports.

yes, the upgrade to hse is permanent because they need to compete with the upgrade that rogers gave

I went from normal to ultra

120KBps vs 600KBps download
45KBps vs 82KBps upload

The extra $10 was more than worth in my eyes.

why was ur d/l so small and same with the upload?

it doesnt fit the regular 3mpbs profile. i get 300kbps d/l and 80kbps upload on normal

btw, if anyone wants to read up on the upgrades and other stuff with sympatico, go here, http://www.dslreports.com/forum/sympat

Posted by AwakenedAddict on May-16-2006 20:02:

I just called Bell.

Where applicable (depends on the quality of your home line and the location of your line) high speed is going to be upgraded to 5Mbit (~600 kilobytes per second down, ~80 kilobytes per second up) and Ultra to 6-7Mbit (~875 kilobytes per second down, ~110 kilobytes per second up). This should be done in a month or so.

I think he had regular sympatico DSL (not high speed or ultra high speed).

Posted by smuncky on May-16-2006 20:15:

its too bad im a bit far away from the CO and my inside wiring is a disaster, cuz i wouldve loved the higher speeds to d/l.

cuz you know what they say...

ok so there are 4 levels?

Ulra-lite
regular ->i thought these two were the same!?
high speed ->i thought these two were the same?!
ultra

what is the cost? I was paying $40/month before, and I am paying $50 now.

PS - anybody have a map of the CO stations? I need to move in September, but I want to make sure im nice and close to get high speeds. Yes, I download too much. stfu

know where your CO will not really help becauase the wiring could loop aroudn for kilometers. its the loop length taht would be useful and not the actual distance from your house to the CO.

for example, im only 2.4 km away from my CO walking distance, but my stats tell me that the actual wire length is much more.

Yea, you are right there are 3 levels. Regular = lite (I have no idea of the cost). I used to pay $40 for high speed and now I pay $50 for ultra.

Posted by smuncky on May-16-2006 20:48:

you guys all pay way too much.

u can bump it down at least $10

call them up and tell them taht you want to leave dsl and go to cable. tell them that they have higher speeds and that right now there is no point in paying for ultra since its the same speed as HSE. find some other isp's that offer dsl/cable for less like 3web or soemthing like it. be firm about it, if not, then just call the next day and you'll get a different person that will give you the discount.
