Jamaica!

Alright, here are few pics of my Jamaica trip. I must say that just about everything in Jamaica blew my mind, in both good and bad ways. I was amazed at how beautiful the country and beaches were and at the same time, shocked at the living conditions of some of the locals. Altogether, I would say this was the best trip of my life because I was exposed to so much.

Here are the pics:

The veiw from the hotel balcony

Me all geared up for the 'Canopy Tour' - a series of 9 zip lines thru the jungle. One of which is over 1000 feet long (longest in the world) and over 200 feet high!

Erin all geared up

Downward view from one of the zip-line platforms

Right before my cousin's wedding

Lovely Erin

The whitest man in Jamaica

These are pictures from Rick's cafe, rated one of the top ten bars in the world. This is where you see the cliff divers - FREAKING UNBELIEVABLE. We took a boat cruis and unfortunately the boat had to dock away from the cliffs. So we swam from the boat to the bar and got to jump off on of the smaller cliffs. But unfortunatle since we had to swim, no pics.

My wife - DRUNK!

Setting sun, taken from the back of the boat

The newlyweds! Mike & Amy. I had just said something stupid right before that pic and was trying to cover it up by drinking.

Me being an idiot at Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville at the Sangster Airport in Montego Bay.

This was before our flight back to Newark. On the way to Newark we were required to go into a holding pattern because of backed up landing traffic. Eventually we ran out of gas and had to land at pHilly airport, refuel and fly on to Newark - a 13 minute flight. We landed on the ground 3 hrs later than we were supposed to.

Ygrene, from what I heard about jamaica, there is a tourist area, which is nice, and then the local's area, which is basically a slum. Did you see anything like that?

The amazing part about it is. if you look at the tree that is slightly to the right.....there was a platform in that tree, up out of the picture. The divers that work there take tips to jump off of that platform - the minimum amount they collect before they jump is $65. I couldn't tell you that heigth of it though. All I know is that the small cliff I jumped off of was enough to give me rush and that was probably 12 - 15 feet. The people you can see over to the left and down are on the cliff that we jumped off of.

And yes, the bar really was that good! I wish we could have stayed longer but, the boat only docked there for about an hour and a half, and I didn't want to drink too much that I wouldn't be able to swim back to the boat!

It's exactly like that. The resorts are beautiful and well maintained and then you drive 1 mile down the road and it's the total opposite. I'd never seen poverty like that and it kind of shocked me.

Once a few years back when i did some rockclimbing one of my mates was belaying me (standing down the bottom with the safety rope) and thought it would be funny to put me through pain on the way down.

So here I was at the top of a climb about to come back down, he started letting out (allowing me to descend) but then suddenly locks off which rather violently stops the descent. This really hurts your boys in all sorts of bad ways. He repeated this process about 4 or 5 times while I was coming down.

ya, so I couldn't walk properly for a while.

I'm so jealous of all these people jetting off to tropical places
