What you planning on doing? Why would you alter a mk5?
well my pitch doesnt work that good anymore...
it has become impossible to find the exact beatsyncrone setting...
the tracks runs always too fast or too slowly after about 20 seconds.
even if i correct the pitch for just a an incredible small millimeter...it still wont runs syncrone (then too fast or too slowly (depends on what speedproblem i had before))
Is that just around centre/zero or across the whole thing?
You must give 'em a beating!
Yeah have you been running them with the platter off or something?
hey Timski, your sig makes me laugh every time I see it.
As for taking the platter off, I take it your refering to the advice not to operate in such a way. To be honest I don't know what the affect is, as the platter is really a floating magnet sitting in an electro magnetic field. I'm no tech, but I don't understand how removing the platter damages the drive system. My dex are fine after 13yrs and I've had my platter off numerous times and switched it on. I dunno.
how could you have an MK5 for 13 years... they were only released a few years ago, if that?
i have mk2's. I never said I had mk5's?
A fault with a Technics?
Impossible!

your title says MK5
Ahhh! I see the error of your ways... not my thread.
On a side note, was there ever a mk4?
heh, no worries
yes, there was i believe, i think it was only released in japan
there was a thread a while back that had all the technics turntables and their model numbers ever released i think
could it be that the magentic field that spins the platter could have shorted out somehow. I know this is what happened to mine. luckly i had a one already that i was using for parts and i changed this out and it worked like new..
just a thought
I've not had a problem with mine. Even working on it with the platter off and power on. Interesting yours shorted out. What I'm trying to understands is how it can cause damage when effectively the platter and the drive device are not even connected. The only thing I can think of is that without the platter, there is not enough resistance in the circuit and it might cause a spike which could burn out one of the coils. Like I said, I'm not a tech so this is just a theory.
