M-Audio firewire 410, question
I just got my m-audio firewire 410. the problem: my laptop comes with a 4 pin firewire connection.
I am wondering the 4pin (IEEE s400) firewire interface will lower the quality of the recordings or be less stable.
The fact that the cable included is 6 pin to 6 pin leads me to question myself.
I can either buy a different cable (6 pin to 4 pin) or get a pcmcia 6 pin firewire card. I'm not sure if the last scenario is worth it.
AFAIK, the only difference between a 4-pin and 6-pin firewire plug is power. The 4-pin firewire is data only and can not power any extrenal devices, so the bandwidth is the same. You'll just have to power the 410 externally.
my 410 came with both, 4to6 pin and 6pin cables. it's weird that yours doesn't have that.
like aquila said though, the only difference is that 4pin isn't buss powered. it's crappy that pcmia isn't buss powered either, so you can't get a firewire pcmia card and run it through there. it makes me sad and angry.
I have a firebox and was disipointed that i had to use the power supply because my laptop didnt have firewire built in, meaning i had to use pcmcia.
bought a 4-6pin cable. thanks for the advise. I have a new g@d damn problem now. I feel noobish to start another thread and just finished searching with no results. Heres the problem:
I am connecting logitech 640 5.1 surround sound speakers to 3 of the 8 1/8 outs (thanks to 1/4 to 1/8 adaptors) but two lights light up next to output signal 1 and 2 (front of the card) only. No matter where I connect the speakers (be it 3,4,5 or 6,7,8) only 1 and 2 light up. I am so frustrated with my lack of knowledge in this field I'm going crazy
I have a similar problem to yours, maybe someone can answer one of us and it would help us both. My problem...
On the front it has the main volume control knob, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't and I have to go into the M-Audio control panel thing in the system tray and adjust my output volume there. I don't know why the hell this keeps happening.
The Mixer is pretty weird.. I have all the SW outputs in the mixer, going out of their respective output, and 1/2... so Out 1/2 goes out to 1/2 then Out 3/4 goes to 1/2 and 3/4 and so on.... I don't understand it properly but that's how I have it and it works fine..So if im playing out of 3/4, I get 2nd and first lights flashing on the 410.
Does the audio come out of the other outputs even though the lights on the front don't go on?
