Jarhead

So i rented this last night (it just came out in the uk this week) and i gotta say it wasn't what i expected.
I was thinking it would be an all out war kinda film with little bits in between about home life. Instead it went through from the start of the recruits life and you see how they develop from normal civilians to fighting machines...you also see some of the brain washing.
It reminded me alot of full metal jacket in places, particually the training. And the thing is i've been thinking about the film alot all day at work so it stays with you.
I give it 8/10

And for those that have seen it.....
"FIELD FUCK!"

Tis good, rent it....parts of it really affected me...like the whole fear of loosing a gf and not being able to do anything because your so far away...brought back memories.

Swoff asks his colleague to his right: "Hey... What would you be doing if you were a civillian? Staying up late, jacking off, playing Metroid trying to get to that ninth level???"

His colleague Sarsgaard replies: "You know what happens when you get there?... *smirks* Nothing, you just start all over again."

When I make dorky comments like that, I speak for all gamer TAs.

Whoever wrote that line should be beaten and drowned.

They should have used Mario. At least then it'd be true. Replace 'level 9' with 'world 8', of course.

Either way, it was completely irresponsible, and someone needs to be disciplined.

Considering Jamie Foxx is a gamer, I'm surprised he let that one slide.

No real gamer would have.

I really liked this movie - I especially liked the fact that it didn't turn into some Hollywood violence-fest brimming with action and shit blowing up. I guess that's kind of how the Gulf War really was for Americans - just sort of being bored out in the desert, staving off desolation and dehydration - of course not for everyone, but for the majority of soldiers that went there, especially considering previous world conflicts the US had been involved with, the Gulf War was just a proxy battle to test mobility and technology.
