Review :: Marco G & Alex Bau @ ARIA :: May 19th '06
I got there @ 3:30am with: PrincessKim, OneEleven, shawn05, mitsutranza, ummmmmmmm...2 other friends Mo and Star and ya, I think that's it.
Marco was doing a nice job pumping some hard shit, perfect way to open for the madness that was to come
I'm not a huge techno fan but I definitely don't mind a night out to it every now and then. He's an excellent DJ, he has a sound of his own, his technical ability is through the roof BUT!!! I dunno, I just didn't enjoy it THAT much. Honestly, it just wasn't my kind of music, although I did dance and really enjoyed his FKN hard basslines ouuuufffff it was soooooooooo loud in the booth!!! The guy is really something else to WATCH mix.
The place was nicely filled up. Lots of people were really into it and the overall vibe was a nice one.
I left at around 7:45am and was asleep by 8:30am
Hi 2: NickPilon, X-Cube (I think), Martin, Piper((mbf))haha! and all my crew as usuallllll

A-M-A-Z-I-N-G... I have heard many Djs, and I swear, Alex Bau's mixing is in a level on his own. He is the only one who makes me feel like a complete idiot, that's how good he is. And he proove last time that January's set was not luck... Layers on layers, tracks on tracks, it was just incredible.
When i was playing techno, that was the techno I wanted to play. Somehow, even if I don't listen to techno anynmore, he manages to make me love that shit like it was the first day.
I was tired, so I said to myslef i'll pick him up at the hotel, go sleep a little, and come back at the end. No way. The vibe was insane, and the place was pretty pack. A lot of people, that was a plaisant surprise since I knew many would choke because of the rain. But no, very very cool crowd, SO into it.
So there I was, no time to sleep, on the dancefloor making a last few sets at the end, and I just CRAVED that dirty, noisy, dark set. Again we left for the airport with Alex just stunned at how awesome Montreal is, the guy loves the place in the people, and you can tell he was so happy to be there. once again, he gave everything he had. And the chemistry and respect with montreal,s corwd is undeniable.
god, the place was rocking last night.
toujours en sous-marin reves pas
le battle net jusqua 4:15 apres ca le gaune avec mbf jay et le aria
jai faillit aller au circus apres mais il faisait soleil deja
Demi at Stereo fucking killed it, perfect mixing, retarted prog tracks and the entire set was more or less a progression in itself.
HUGE tracks were dropped, lots of ones I've never heard of, lots I have heard, Demi = Total pwn.
Go away Stereo whore. This is a thread for ARIA.
(edit: I kid, i fkn loovveee stereo)
Stereo for life!!!
Two words!!!!
Good TImeeeee
Um... well... just WOW! I cannot believe how insanely good the music was over the weekend for me.
First Friday for Marco and Alex. The beats were hard, and track after track I beat my legs to a pulp dancing!
Saturday night we decided to hit up Aria once again. Wow all over again. It was my first time hearing a complete set for Maus and Creator. Best time I have had dancing in a long time. Two locals I plan on seeing much more often from now on! Fantabulous!
Great weekend spent getting to know really great MTLTA's. *HUGS* to you all and we must do it up again soon!
Now to go power nap before hitting up Maxgraham at Helsinki.

Different is good always
Walked in with the Ottawians, Stereohead, shawn05, Wisnia, and two very good friends of ours - non-TAs (for the moment)...Marco G was spinning and pumping up the place pretty good, he spun "Brass Monkey" which kinda came out of nowhere but was fun to listen to live.
Bau came on half an hour early, and I LOVED the distortion he opened his set with - kind of like a distorted wind and overall I'd say the music was very good, I liked that it was different than most nights I recently went to, it gave me a flavor of what a real techno night is like and that's an interesting experience..
It was nicely packed as soon as Bau came on and it stayed like that for a good two-three hours, but it emptied out at one point pretty quickly - shawn, stereohead, wisnia - all left, and it was me and our guests left for that last couple of hours (Bau finished around 9:30)
We were all exhausted and sat out the rest of the show, nodding in agreement to each other that the music was sickk..
In those last two hours I recongnized a couple of tracks, both spun by Sven Vath, and Bau spun another SICK track that Vath spins all the time, yet to be identified but will be soon
Extrawelt - Soopertrack
Hugg & Pepp - Mazarin
It was great hearing those tracks.
Another thing has to be mentioned: Bau's energy. He was having a blast, jumping up and down, waving his hands, lassoing his towel into the crowd...it's always great to see a DJ loving what he's doing.
------------------
The weekend got extended into the Saturday and kudos to 111, her friend Victoria, Stereohead and Moe (not moevalith) for partying it up LIKE MAD the next night, with my favorite residents: Maus and Creator. Ahh, it was SOOOOOOO great to see Maus again, it's been too long and she's definately progressed in her sound, I was in total bliss the whole time she was spinning.
Creator was just the perfect resident to end our weekend off with, his sets are always so energetic and it was great hearing The Switch again. Wow, what a song. Martin, I don't know how much you think Alex Bau makes you look bad, but just my opinion (and taste) : you were better than him
Hi to my usual crew, and it was really great meeting new partypeople Oneeleven, PrincessKim and their friend Victoria. Looking forward to partying with you again soon!
*Sorry for chokin Helsinki
*
MT
Maus's set was recorded this nite too~ Can't wait to hear it again!
Kim, Oneeleven, Erika, Shawn, Moevalith, Mitsu, and the rest of the non-tas, i had such a crazy weekend with u guys!!
Both friday and saturday were special in their own way. Aria on friday was nice. I haven't been to Aria for awhile so it was good to be back. Marco was awsome as usual, always fun to listen to his sets and see him do his thing. I got one complaint tho, the music all of a sudden died at a buildup to a amazing track. Either marco killed the wrong cd deck or Bau pull the wrong cable while was setting up his equipment. (but that could happen to any dj
)
Alex Bau was playing some amazing stuff, but i wasn't feeling it that night. Some stuff were mind blowing but some so so. The guy is super skilled behind the decks, no hesitation at all, everything spot on. Good seeing Alex party it up himself!
As Mitsutranza, the weekend got extended into Saturday, but i wasn't brave enough to continue the party cause of excess amounts of alcohol
We need to do this more often guys!!
ps. nice seein u Nick P,
definitely a weekend that needs to be re-lived!!! I had an amazing time thanks to you guys: Viktor, Shawn, Nick (I forgot to get your autograph! haha), Erika, Star, Moe and Moe...and of course my Ottawak girls, Tia and Victoria
I wasn't expecting to go to Aria super early on the Friday night but didn't mind it at all since Marco G was opening the night. And Bau came on early and was madness from start to finish...he was for sure a fun dj to watch, sooo much energy that guy and holy skillz!
I was sooo surprised not seeing Kate there! wtf?!
our mutual friend said she was at a pre-party and crashed way too early
too bad you missed it girl!
props to those who made it to Aria a second time on the Saturday night...you guys are
I'm sure I would've gone too if it wasn't for the cupious amount of red wine I consumed
special thanks to Shawn and Star for letting me crash at their place and Viktor for driving me around. You guys are a bunch of sweethearts
there will be next time!!!
oh and Nick...don't worry about choking Helsinki...I'm pretty sure we all did
I was definitely disappointed not to make it out for Alex, I think the term I would use though is 'resting the eyes' instead of passing out at 3am.. hehe (godaamn 5 am headliners)..
I managed to wake up shortly after 5 as well but decided not to go then.
glad to hear it sounded like a good party though!
I'm bummed I missed the only techno booking there for the summer, likely.
Many thanks to all the survivors that stayed late on Saturday!
It was overall an awesome week-end, both nights were really, really good. I wasn't expecting much finishing the night on Saturday with Swirl, and the great party the night before with Alex Bau... but again, you all manage to give me a smile and surprise me with your energy.
It makes me very positive that this will be again a great summer @ Aria. And I will soon have nice things to announce ;-)
Nice to see you all
*** btw, i forgot to mention Marco G in my Friday review, that's because I heard just 1 or 2 tracks. But he really got the crowd started.
Ok
Martin you are fkn unbelievable
How can u say that Alex makes you feel like an idiot?!?!?!
mon dieu...
dude, you had me dancing my a$$ off at 9am ONCE AGAIN.
and any time i wasn't dancing, well, i was watching you make the magic happen.
I never know what to do when u mix man...1) Watch you and be totally in awe and learn from it OR 2) dance to your beats and break my legs.
You see the dilemma.
Saturday night was 5381296743x better musically and there's no need to say why.
I like Miguel, I've always liked Miguel, he's just cool. I have never been like, UGH wtf is this? when Miguel plays. I enjoy most of his tracks and he's just a really chill person too.
Maus...MAUS...DJ MAUS!!! So nice to see Louise again after about 2 months of not seeing her! I found her sound a bit more proggy (which is thumbs up for me), she's just an awesome DJ (I think she only spun vinyls, correct me if I'm wrong)...great tracks, the boys love her hahaha, it's so cute to see like, 5 guys go up to her and blow her kisses lmao!!!
And well, Martin had me around his finger as soon as he came on. END
There were people indeed, nowhere near packed but the farthest thing from totally empty (except at the end).
Maybe 7 ppl on the floor by 10am. During the night, about 100-125 at the peak.
I left at the end, duh.
Ummmmm what else?
Everyone who appreciates and enjoys DARK HARD FILTHY PROG with some ELECTRO pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee come to Aria and see Creator. I promise you will not regret it. I haven't yet and from the way things flow when Martin's behind the decks, there won't be any regrets any time soon.
Only great music

Woah!
What a great weekend guys!!!!! So drunk Saturday.... Friday was at Aria was a blast. Marco was great until the music stopped suddenly during the buildup for Poca Del Machine.... and ALex Bau is a god technically. But I have a feeling he wasnt reading the crowd properly. None the less, a great time was had and the music was thumpin.....
To all my girls in Ottawa.... we'll have to do this again really soon, hmmmm maybe Hawtin?
