Macs...?

I'm thinking that, instead of upgrading my PC, I might get a Mac. I mean, the only game I play on the PC is CS: Source, so gaming isn't a big deal.

I'm looking to getting into music production, but I'm a total noob when it comes to Macs, other than using the iMacs in school.

I was thinking about getting a black MacBook, but what are some other decent-priced Macs? I mean, are the iMacs shitty for their price? I don't feel like dropping $8 billion on a G4 or G5, though.

...help?

you either wait for the replacement of the PowerMac G5 to come, or get an iMac, they are pretty good, Sasha uses them anyway, the only bad thing about imacs is upgradeability and if that isnt an issue then you're set

the new macbook is awesome. i'm going to get one, priced very well too, you won't find a better laptop for that price. i wouldn't get an iMac if i were you, the new core duo processor is only ment for mobile, so the macbook is the best choice. the imac will get updated soon.

If you're buying a new PC, modern computer chips are capable of running OSX - So you could have Windows, OSX & Linux all on one PC.

You get the best of everything then, all on one machine. Where as if you buy a Mac, you get OSX, and OSX only.

You can also install Linux on a Mac.

And now that Mac uses Intel chipsets, you can use Bootcamp to run WinXP on your mac

If I were you, I wouldn't buy these new Macbooks : non native softwares run very slowly , bad autonomy , no memory cards reader :/, lack of some important ports (no s-video , no firewire 800, only 2 USB ports). And about the price, PC laptops are still a lot cheaper.

Sorry, i didnt know for sure if Linux ran on macs and didnt check.

Bottom line of the story is dispite all its flaws, Windows has its uses, mainly because its so popular. And if you buy another 'PC', you'll be able to get all 3 OS's, where if you buy Mac, you can only get 2. Dual booting / tripe booting sounds difficult, but its actually really easy.

Take a weekend to install and config 3 OS's, but then you just select which one you want at boot. Cant lose.

you can, but if a mac can run linux and windows, then you can (ultimately) get all 3 OS's on a mac or PC, so really my first post in all this was pointless.

Leopard, 10.5, will be able to run on PC natively.

umm find me pc laptop thats cheaper or even matches closely to a Macbook, closest thing is IBM Thinkpad which hasn't changed its designed in 10+ years, and still doesn't come close in price.
