Reason, definately. It's a very complete program and has a very nice user interface and is very easy to use once you learn it.
Try out the demo.

The tracks in my signature are made with Reason exclusively.

I second that, I actually use cubase sx3 with hardware now, but learning sequencing in Reason is a great way to start! Also, I have to admit that Reason 3 does sound really good, and I've heard great stuff come out of it

Oh, and pickup a soundcard with ASIO drivers, I started with an audigy sound card and that worked well with Reason, plus they're not that expensive.

Good luck mate!

No-one's mentioned FL Studio 6 yet!

A great alternative to Reason and just as popular, if not more so.

Demo everything and see what fits your requirements the best.

This site will probably help you somewhat - www.computermusic.co.uk.

I believe stickies are there for a reason...check them out because they answer your questions so people don't have to make the same stupid thread every week.

INDEED TO FL 6, that's what I use. It's quite a simple sequencer but the program has so many options. I don't know how to use Propellorhead Reason... Why? I dunno, downloaded the demo once, but accidentally deleted and now I download it again and it doesn't get along. Another program that's pretty good, I don't own it but I've messed around with it, Acid Pro from sony, Jezper Sderlund, AKA Airbase, uses it. Not to mention Apple logic is really good but extremely expensive, I can tell you about FL 6, I've been working with FL for about 4 years and just recently got the 6th version, I was workin' with FL 4, and FL 6, it's pretty awesome compared to 4, but that's the only program I can really tell you that much about.

Just to clarify, Airbase uses Ableton Live now instead of Reason, not Acid Pro for sequencing.
