Civiliazation nerds I need to know

...um how do you keep your civilization from falling behind? Its the year 2030 and I still am stuck in the bronze age or a little after it. Any advice on how to be scientifically advanced? And what is the best way for your cities to grow while you are still expanding?

Haha

I love that oldskool civilization; its the only version I still play (Julias Caesar ftw )

And ow yeah; if you're already in 2030 and STILL in the bronze age you better retire immeadeately.

At the start point you have to found a city; make 2 peasants or something. 1 for exploring and 1 for guarding your city (press "F" button to integrate him into your city, this will double his defence). Then build another settler and start irrigating the land (with the "I" button) around your city; this will cause your cities to grow and produce much faster. And also wen you start the game Put "Taxe 20% Science 80%" so you advance very quick. Then when the game progresses you'll have to adjust it according to your position.

This should get you started. Basically it comes to some training and then it's fun.

When in doubt check GameFAQs.com

Make sure you uprgrade your government. That way your cities produce much much more of the light bulbs and the gold coins. Despotism shouldn't be used unless you are at war. Democracy is the best, just be sure to keep your citizens happy by keeping armies home, and by building temples etc, and giving luxuries.

If you build the Pyramids first you can upgrade to any government you want w/o having to research them, its a huge advantage and will give you a lead on every other race in the game.

Cities grow by filling up the food box in the city screen. The more food you produce the faster your city will grow. Grasslands, Plains, and Rivers are squares taht produce the most food. Irrigating them helps. Also, having a better form of goverment you produce more food at each square.

Its a great game you can tell I used to play it obsessively.

Which version of the game are you playing?

1,2,3, or 4?

4

civ 4 is pretty tough imo. at the start of the game you really need to create as many cities early on as you can, coz expanding after mid game is almost impossible (unless thru conquest). be sure to have a ton of workers upgrading your land.

that said, im still struggling in this game

i can keep up with others well, ider is to trade tech with everone, then you keep ahead. my problem is conquest, too damn hard. But it makes me lol when there morn about you nucking them lol, and when you are raping them and they demand 200 gold off you to stop the war, lol.

haha i was talking about the original, I have never played any of the others. If it ain't broke why fix it?

4s probably the easiest and most fun to manage. All you have to do is start off building as many cities as you can near resources, and create workers workers workers. Don't piss off your neighbors either. Give them what they want unless the price is crazy.

i find the AI in 4 is wack. the difficulty between 2 difficutly lvls is absurd. I think its Chieftain and warlord. I smoke one on all levels, and fail to get 2 cities in the other.

I'm only familiar with Civ 2 and 3, but if you need tips, civfanatics.com is your best bet.

ooof, you don't know what you're missing.

between 2 and 3 it was like day and night, 4 is superior to three and better polished.
