how long did it take u to learn how 2 mix good?
I started djing in October and im just starting to get the hang of mixing properly now but i was wondering how long it took for other ppl to learn how 2 mix?
Almost been mixing for a year and I still mix like shit. Maybe its because I only go on the turntables once a week.
Still learning - 13 yrs
Everyone or mostly everyone is going to be very critical of themselves. So whether they've been spinning 1 day or 5 years, they will still feel like they are capable of more.
With that said, I've been mixing almost two years, and I feel like my mixing is no where near as good as it could be.
Still learning - 3 years...
in the area of 7 years, still learning
honestly, and some might differ from others, but i've found that you really pick up speed after about a year, maybe more for others
Depends what you mean by 'good'. I've owned my gear for about 3 months now and I'm getting ok - as in I can go for two hours with only one or two slight trainwrecks.
Depends on a lot of things...
I noticed from crossing over to other genres that I mix House almost on point every time where Trance is a bit tougher. You miss your cue then you gotta wait another 32 beats, for example. All depends...
yea house you only have to wait 16 beats
anyways ive been dj'ing for a good whole 2 weeks now.
at first i thought i was great lol then i quickly aquired an ear for the skill and now i think im alright. my mixing is perfectly beatmatched but as for mixing in key and buildup/breakdown mixing its hit and miss still.
Been mixing for 7 years, still learning.
I've switched genres and am learning to find the sweet spot again.
The more you practice the quicker you'll get good. Once you think you're decent, start to record your mixes (and be shocked at how bad they are
)

depends what you start to learn on
i learned on CDJs, so when mixing on CDJs im not too bad,
but SHITE on vinyl... so much harder - respect to all the vinyl junkies!
i dj for about 8 months, i can beatmatch quite properly, sure there are some trainwrecks in my mixes, but now i usually got small (rarely over 0.5 sec) drifts...
appart from that i feel that i could improve my eq skills, they doesn't suck completly but i know that my mixes could sound better, but it's hard for me as long as i got crappy numark dm950 with 2 point equalization...
gotta find summer job and get rid of this shit
so as i said, playing 8 months i still long way to call myself good
been mixing for just over 2 years, and would say that i'm good enough to play out. Of course i'm still learning all the time, if anyone says that they're not still learning, they're lying i'm afraid
Well for me, once I got my decks. Took me about a week to realize I had my tonearm setup incorrectly (having needles boucne everywhere was fun, haha). Then after that, took me 6 weeks to get beatmatching down. Im still trying to better eq/blend in my tracks together, but I believe I'll get there.
Only reason I was able to pick this up quite quickly, was all thanks to a program that I was goofing around on called virtual turntables about 5 years ago. The interface was exactly like one of those dual deck cdj players. Standard mixer, and no auto bpm that beatmatches for you.
Now maybe after 1 year of experience behind me, I will start handing out demo cds, and try getting a gig, until then, I'm enjoying myself everyday I turn on that On/off dial.
it's been close to two years. beatmatching is no problem, just still working on creativity and different ways of eq'ing..
