2006 French Open thread

Do you all think this event should have its own thread?

Anyways, who are your picks to take it all?
Federer, Nadal, or someone else?
How about for the women? Will Hingis improve on her Australian Open result? Will Mauresmo make it two majors in a row?

in the first round, Federer needed 2.5 hours to beat someone making his tour-level debut

Federer all the way...

Usually in the first matches some of the players are still adjusting, let's not forget he was playing a total unknown who started rather well in the first set but that was just it. Also, Federer had asked the organizers to play on Monday, not Sunday.

Even though Nadal is still the biggest favourite for this tournament, I believe Roger has reached the point where he can take him down now if he plays his best.

Rafa for the win.

I thought I heard something on TV about Sharapova having a bad ankle

Posted by The_G0dfather on May-28-2006 20:29:

would have loved the drama if sharapova got knocked out in the 1st round

Those bitches always have some injuries and then win tournaments! Besides Shara plays bad on the clay courts, as Davenport.

I don't think Hingis pass 1/8 where she'll meet Dementieva, she always lose to her.

No Lindsay, maybe injury?

I think Petrova has biggest chance to reach title. She plays this year more accurate (less unforced errors) & she very powerfull, but sometimes she can lose to real shit, like 2 years ago to Weingartner 0:2.

Mens. Final Federer (1) Vs Nadal (2) and only, maybe Nalbandian has a little chance to get final. All others have no chance! I will root for Roger to have 4 grand slams titles in a row.

Roddick has real chance to lose in first round. He retired from Dusseldorf last week, plays bad on clay and plays bad this year!

My bets on first round:
Roddick-Martin win 2 k 1.95
Peer-Savchuk handicap 2 +6 k1.85
Hantuchova-Domingez Lino 2:1 k3.9 Total>19.5 k1.8 or win2 k3
Schruff-Ondraskova 2:0 k2.5

Tomorrow i'll think on more bets

French press: new Roland Garros edition, same shit threw to Spanish Armada.

Some chovinist diary named Le Journal suspects about Nadal's musculature, tells that french players speak about EPO and the Armada: envy, the fact that since Noah any french has won RG and spanish players have won some titles, makes those unfounded rumours fly: disguting gossip.

heh, prolly some fat journalist

Posted by The_G0dfather on May-29-2006 14:14:

malisse knocked out after 4h30m
i'ld be pissed if i were him

Posted by partyhopper on May-29-2006 14:31:

3 times Sharapova was a point away from being knocked out in the first round
She beat Mashona Washington, 6-2, 5-7, 7-5

if Nadal wins his 1st round match, he'll set a new record for consecutive matches won on clay, with 54

Posted by zoric on May-29-2006 14:54:

I've missed it all so far

Posted by InterMilan31 on May-29-2006 18:43:

not surprisingly, Andy Roddick is bounced out early again
but it seemed that a bad ankle had some to do with it

i cant see nadal loosing...how can someone pick anyone over nadal when he hasnt lost a match on clay in two years...federer is getting closer and closer but im sure he is annoyed with this guy after loosing to him so many times in a row in just one year! nadal is my pick...federer has a tough match tom against massu but i say he wins in 4

womens-hingis wins it...mauresmo cant handle the pressure being at home

BIG BIG match between Paul Henri Mathieu and Rafael Nadal,
4 hours and 53 minutes to win in 4 sets !
Some shitty spectators, like always, makes me ashamed to be french,
Anyway GREAT great match from Paul Henri Mathieu, but like always Nadal wins in the end.
On the other hand i am happy because i want Federer and only Federer to beat the spaniard..! very interesting tournament so far.

I love this tournament. There are always such surprises and the tennis is usually top notch. I'm a big Federer fan so I agree that I want him to take down Nadal (using a banana maybe?). He just got through to the 5th round. On the women's side, I've always liked Hingis so I really hope she wins. She has a good shot, coming into this tournament in great form.

Mauresmo and Sharapova are bounced out in the 4th round (Round of 16)

Posted by d-miurge on Jun-05-2006 16:43:

so sad Sharapova is bounced out.

Posted by Unique2701 on Jun-05-2006 22:54:

So happy Sharapova has bounced out

I hope Nadal is gonna win this grandslam, but i'm afraid Federer has got him figured out by now, plus Nadal had a really long match before hewitt..

Posted by zoric on Jun-05-2006 23:05:

57 wins in a row for Nadal.

He's crazy

Posted by The_G0dfather on Jun-06-2006 12:05:
