Paul van Dyk feat. Ashley Tomberlin - Complicated

Ok, I just heard a set rip of this new PVD track, and I must say, I'm very disappointed. I've not wanted to admit it, but I think it's true - PVD is going the same direction as Tiesto.

I'm sorry, but this track just sucks. It has no depth, it sounds like anybody that has used Reason for about 4 hours in their entire life-time could have made a track with the same substance as this one...same simple melody over and over, no real change to the song...and surprisingly, Ashley Tomberlin's vocals don't help the song at all either! At least at the beginning of the song, the vocals sound out of key...

I'd love to hear feedback from others on this track.

Pvd is a far worse producer than Tisto

I hope thats a joke.

anyway FUUUUUUCK vocal tracks. can he stop relying on vocalists to do the job for him? hes an amazing producer when he wants to be and he needs to get back to the good ol Seven Ways trancers.

you just realised this? PVDs entire last album was pure cheese. Nothing but you, the other side etc are just some examples of really low hitting tunes from the man which attacks Ian van Dahl for being cheesy

I agree. "wir sind wir" and "the other side" were cheap mainstream productions imo. tiestos can also do better, but "allure - the loves we lost" was really good and his last album "just be" was also ok, at least better than "reflections".

can't wait to compare both artist albums which should be released at the end of this year by pvd and tiesto.

Wir Sind Wir is a pretty great song without the vocal. its the vocals that kill his songs.

lets see how pvd's next artist album will be. I'm really existed because he said that he has produced a track that he considers to be better than "for an angel".. not sure but I think pvd said this in an interview.

No that's not a joke at all... Tisto had some quality releases/remixes in the past; and maybe he's still capable of diggin' some good stuff... Maybe his artist album will point that out.
Anyway Pvd produces mostly cheese; so he's the last person to agree with gareth emery that 95% of trance is cheesy bollocks

Seven Ways is better than nearly every production Tiesto has ever made.

imo

to say that Tiesto is a better producer than PvD is wrong. PvDs old discography contains some amazing productions. Both alone and together with others.

Both Tiesto and PvD have shown really poor skills during the last couple of years. Just Be was a cheesy crap album just as Reflections.

So no. None of them can claim to be the front figures of trance music today.

what PVD set can i find this track on. would like to give it a listen...

+1, they've both got some good and bad productions over the years.

not sure, didn't find a set with the track in it...just heard a version of that track that was ripped from a set (either live or soundgarden, not sure)

Anyone noticed how the bassline in this track is almost identical to the bassline in 'The Egg - Walking Away (Tocadisco Remix)'? Which is a track Paul has been canning for awhile.

Posted by eisbaer6 on May-29-2006 02:09:

I think this track is very good especially vocals, unfortunately i believe its a harder version of the egg - walking away. The other track ive heard of pvds newer works sounds pretty fuckin hot though - stormy skies. Very impressed.

Posted by ASFSE on May-29-2006 05:01:

ya, if anyone could upload a sample of this, that'd be great!

Posted by lucasp_10 on May-29-2006 05:42:

I havnt heard it but id say that maybe he has put the bassline over the top of this track, whatever it may be.

Posted by CAtranceaddict on May-29-2006 07:05:

I haven't heard the song personally, but I'm commenting on a few other posts in this thread. Personally, I liked Reflections overall, in spite of a couple low points of the album that I wasn't really feeling (such as "Never Forget" and "Knowledge"). But my all time fave artist album of his is Out There and Back. Nothing can top that. I thought it was even better than Seven Ways.

yeah it's true, and that new track he mentioned is called "Stormy Skies".

Tiesto is just a puppet, dont compare him with PvD.

That's what I call a well explained opinion

I didnt want to explain anything, mate. Its true, Tiesto uses engineers and I have a suspicion he used them everytime he had to produce anything. PvD, yet a bit cheesy right now, is still most prolly the only man behind his tracks. Hes originally a passionate musician, great piano player with extremely sensitive feeling for music and harmonies. Thats the biggest difference between him and Tijs.

And for me, PvD knows 100 times better than Tiesto how to move the crowd, he never dissapoints me. Yeah, im full of feelings, heard Paul live two days ago and he totally rocked, but i would say this anytime.
