Thumbs up On the road to something better

As of today, I've started the battle that is quitting smoking. After wanting to quit for months I finally did something about it. I saw my doctor, and started on the patch today. Wish me luck.

It's not a battle. Put down the fucking cigarette. There. Now, move on with your life. Everyone i know who has quit (myself included), quit in this manner. This is the only way to do it. By using the patch, etc, you convince yourself that you're too weak to do it on your own. As a result, you either won't quit at all, or if you do quit, you'll start smoking again the moment a major crisis hits you. And it will. If you quit on your own, you will never go back because you'll have the: "i'm strong enough" conviction. If you don't, you'll go back to smoking, because instead of "i'm strong enough," you'll be thinking "i wasn't strong enough to quit on my own then, and i'm not strong enough to stay away from it now. I needed the patch to help me deal with quitting smoking, and now i need smoking to help me deal with this crisis. Just one smoke, i swear. I won't buy a pack. Well, maybe just one." So yea: cut the shit. Put down the cig. Move on.

EAT A DICK

I decided to quit, even with the patch/nicorette you still have to have the will power not to smoke. Stop smoking aids help to minimize the withdrawl simptoms - that's it. If quitting cold turkey worked for you congrats, but i saw my physician and they recommended me something. So unless you are my doctor STFU and die.

Didn't need to read any further past this point of the post.

Bullshit. You've been lead to believe that it's a big step by the very same companies that sell cigarettes. This belief makes it harder to quit, and ensures that you continue buying from them (patches, if not smokes) even if you do try to quit. Quitting smoking is PRECISELY as difficult as you think it is. I quit cold turkey, and it was one of the easiest things i've ever done because i believed it to be. My father did too. And my mother. And my grandfather. And all my best friends. Look, it goes like this: cigarette - a few dry leaves and paper; you - nature's greatest and most powerful creation, the end result of billions of years of evolution. Now, are you really trying to tell me that for someone like YOU (and by you, i mean any human), it should be difficult (or even somewhat challenging) to quit THAT? For fuck's sake!

Wow. YOU, are one dumb fuck! I was trying to help you, asshole. Fair enough. Your willpower has just been conquered by a FUCKING PLANT. Enjoy your patch. We'll revisit this thread in a year and i guarantee that you'll be smoking again by then.

Relax.
I don't smoke, so NO i dont know how easy or hard it is. Maybe he doesn't have the will power like you do. So maybe it is challenging for him.

along the same lines...people are different, what may be easy for you isn't to another person. let them handle it the way they feel is best and will give them better results.

Your reaction to my original post is proof fucking positive that you KNOW i'm right. Only instead of shutting the fuck up, listening and LEARNING something, you're running around and screaming your ass off to keep yourself from thinking about how scared you are. Like i said, enjoy smoking. You're not gonna quit until you smarten the fuck up, kid.

Sorry, the anger wasn't really directed at you, but at the tobacco companies. You just got caught in the crossfire

You're being a litle too harsh. What makes you think your bodies react the same to things. He obviously CAN'T do it on his own. Why do you have such a problem with that? If he needs assistance, he needs it. EOD.

You were still a little harsh.

But yes, forgiven.

bottom line, he still needs help, and good for him for getting it!!

In your endless number of pointless posts on TA you have consistantly proven that you are an idiot. Not only would I never take any advice from you, I would be more inclined to do the opposite.

Like I said before I saw my doctor, and they recommended something. This is what I am following. Also I never asked for your advice, all I said was that I was quitting, and send your best wishes.

also LOL @ the "kid" comment.

You missed the point: the only reason he can't is because he THINKS he can't (because the idiot physician told him so apparently). But yea, nevermind. He obviously doesn't have the slightest idea how his mind operates, so this'll just go into one ear and out the other.

good luck. i always like to see people stop smoking.
almost all my friends smoke. i hate it cause i'm the only one who doesn't and every time the blow smoke in my face i have to be violent to teach them a lesson.
my friends need to stop. its bad. no, sports, lack of energy, can't do things cause they have to have a smoke. (ie: can't go to the movie theatres has to be the drive in.)

If you behave like a punk-ass 14-year-old, you're gonna be treated like one.
