French Open

well the tournament is now underway!

http://www.rolandgarros.com/en_FR/index.html

On the men's side I hope Federer wins... he has a pretty nice draw and should get through to the semis (even if his first match was challenging).. I know Nadal has beaten him now the past 3 or 4 times, but I think Roger can beat the king of clay!

I'm a huge Martina Hingis fan so I am hoping she rides the momentum of her win last week in Rome.. I think it is unlikely she'll actually win, but if she's hungry enough to finally win this major, and she keeps her shit together, I think she has a solid chance for the semis!

I bought my tickets recently to the finals of the Roger's cup here in August. There are still some decent seats left that aren't that expensive for anyone interested. I saw Agassi vs Nadal in last year's final and it was great!

Kate, I didn't know you were into tennis. I know the head of tennis Canada so if you ever need a hookup with tickets just drop me a PM. Federer is a force to be reckoned with and if it breaks down to Nadal and Federer in the finals I'll freak. Their games have yet to disapoint me.

When I was down in L.A I went to the Indian Wells tournement and saw Federer take on Agassi. One of the best games I've ever seen.

Martina is a fav on the girls side. I used to go for Sharapove before she went all diva-ish on a friend of mine last summer. Imagine a twelve year old girl going up to Sharapove with big blue eyes and being completely shafted by her. She didn't even give her two seconds and the girl practically adored her. What the media does to people...

Anyway, this summer should be interesting. Girls, girls, girls.

I like Sharapova... but I get the impression as well the spotlight has changed her a bit since she started her pro career. I'd like some of the perks she gets though.. I saw something last week about her picking out who she thought was like the dozen hotest ball boys for a tourney in some country out of a crew of models and stuff.

I have followed tennis for yeeears! Mostly on the women's side but I am a Federer fan as well. I hope to make it to the men's tourney in Toronto the week before the women's this summer.

I don't play the sport though, I stick with squash & badminton.. hehe

I used to play Squash when I was younger. I love playing tennis but I don't play it anywhere near as much as I want.

Did you ever hear the story about the men's tourney in Spain that replaced all the ballboys with models? The dude that runs tennis canada was telling me that the models threw the players off because they were too busy checking them out.

Hehehhehehe... silly Europeans. :P

goooo Canada!

PARIS (CP) - Philip Bester of North Vancouver stunned top-seeded Thiemo De Bakker of the Netherlands at the French Open on Friday to become the first Canadian male to reach a junior singles final at a Grand Slam event.

Bester won 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 and will play Martin Klizan of Slovakia - who is also unseeded - in Sunday's junior boys final.

''I tried to stay aggressive and the game plan paid off,'' Bester said. ''To defeat the top seed and No. 2 junior in the world was a great accomplishment.

''I'm liking Paris more and more each day.''

It was a mixed day for the other two Canadians in action Friday. Sharon Fichman won her junior girls doubles semifinal while Daniel Nestor, also of Toronto, lost in the mixed doubles final.

Fichman, 15, and Russia's Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, seeded third, defeated Sorana Cirstea of Romania and Alexandra Panova of Russia 6-3, 6-4. Fichman and Pavlyuchenkova will play the top-seeded team of Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland and Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark in Saturday's final.

Fichman and Pavlyuchenkova, who teamed to win the Australian Open title earlier this year, have only dropped one set in their four victories to date at Roland Garros.

Nestor and Elena Likhovtseva of Russia dropped a 6-3, 6-4 decision to Katarina Srebotnik of Slovenia and Nenad Zimonjic of Serbia and Montenegro. Nestor and Mark Knowles of the Bahamas were eliminated in the second round of the men's doubles.

Bester, 17, is the first Canadian player to reach the final of a junior singles Grand Slam event since Sonya Jeyaseelan lost in the final at Roland Garros in 1994.

watching the women's final now... hoping Justine will win.

Sucks for Hingis to lose in the quarters, but it was nice to see her make the top 8.

Can't wait for tomorrow morning's final... FEDERER vs NADAL!!
