What if your style sounds outdated to some producers

i noticed a lot of labels and companies will only market you unless you have everyone else's sound

and i have my own style like everyone else(i kind of have a happy trance style ) ,i dont want to copy or sound like anyone.

so i just need to know if anyone knows of some links or of labels that mainly gear towards old school
techno ,and uplifting trance.

Or some that gear towards all sub genres of edm ,most of them only cater to 1

Go and change it. EDM is no different then rock or hip hop. It's called product. If it doesn't sell, it's not interesting in the long run to a lable. Everyone knows this.

I on the other hand am really excited about today's sound. Its so much harder "Alphazone paved the way" and much more emotional in my mind. I hope that I can really push the genre some more with even harder and better tracks. The ones I'm working on right now are great but I want atleast a few that will leave people in that awe.

I LIKE FAST AND I LIKE.... beautiful.

I really don't like light trance, just not my thing, so its good that the future right now is hardtrance, and I hope it stays for awhile.

theres a label out there for everyone.
someone out there made music like urs, wasn't having much chances getting signed so he opened a label.
He's out there somewhere, send send, then send more.
Get some proffessional feedback, or even post ur productions on the other thread....u'll probably get some honest answers that way.

don't change ur style in terms of what the industry is doing, do what u love.
yet if it is far off the norm, u will have a hard time getting picked up...like freaq said its the industry

The Hardtrance- and hardstyle-industy are shrinking really fast these days I think, which I think is good personally.
On the other side, I hear more and more tech-trance (Marcel Woods etc.), so that could be something to watch for the future.

Yeah this intersts me I'am really into the fire & ice round 2000 egt Lost emotions / Souvner de chine ect.

This isn't the sound that's around at the moment but the current scence Just doesn't reflect me.

Me love tech-trance and prog.

Well then we must be on different pages on what "Hard" is. Whenever I listen to internet radio or listen to sets or go to clubs, I hear more HI-NRG/Hard stuff like Alphazone, Ralph Novell, Atmosphere. Maybe its my location?

I refer to most serious trance as hard. All the fluffy "I opened my eyes and saw the sun" is what I call everything else.

You guys got some other classification for what I do?

Well the last is subjective...Theres a bigger tendancy in trance now to have huge drops and multiple breakdowns per song. And massive buildups and its bass drum and riff centric these days. Not saying everyone does it - far from it. But theres definitely more of it.

But I dont like Alphazone or anything like that. This year, the only thing I am psyched for is NASA's album release. After hearing that Tunisia Solar Eclipse set posted by RebeL9 in the discussion forum, its really got me in a way that some of the old school trancers did. And its been a while since Ive listened to a set that doesnt drop out a beat for over 50 minutes. Hell YES! Looking forward to some new Binary too.

As for hardstyle, its not something I have heard alot of in the UK southcoast. I dont think this is the future of trance at all. Im actualyl quite bored with the sound of alot of it but hey. Opinions: arseholes.

Agreed with pretty much everything said here. Doing what you love (because you love it) is the best position you can be in. Drives you to keep practicing, keep trying to get better and it puts sincerity into your music. And thats all I am really interested in hearing these days. IF you dont fit in with the pack then fair enough but the recording industry has always been as much about who you know as what you know.

Check out Enoise records, click on my signature to go there, they are a small indie lable. They've only done digital releases thus far, but they are somewhat new, vinyl may be in the future. They deal in all forms of EDM. You can listen to clips from the Enoise 'Digital Mission' releases on beatport.com or audiojelly.com. The Digital Mission releases are samplers of different Enoise Artists, very eclectic in style. Lost Edit and me are the Enoise Trance artists, the other guys do Techno and breakbeat type stuff. As far as I know, there's no type of EDM they will turn their nose up at. A small digital lable like Enoise is a good way to start out, and get your name out there.

Screw labels, they're in it for money, not art.

You want to make music a certain way that vibes with you? Do it.

Share your shit for free on the internet and give away promos.

You're not making any money anyway, so get that out of your head. Labels are designed to screw you over and make a quick buck most of the time, so be careful with your desires.

Sounds like you had a bad experience with labels. Yes, you should be cautious, but not all labels are crooked. Working with a label is more about getting your music promoted and distributed in the mainstream market, which is not easy to do on your own. It's more about exposure, and reaching a wider audience. To me, that's what getting with a label is about, not making money. Giving your "shit" out for free only goes so far, there's a whole lot of people you will never be able to reach.

Sure, most of us will never get rich from EDM, but it's pretty negative to tell someone they are NOT going to make any money. There're quite a few EDM artists that do see some decent money, so go tell them there's no money to be made.

Ah, right, I must have had a bad experience with a label, because there's no other way to realize just how corrupt and evil the music business is.

This is a great thread... I think about this alot, the style of trance that I [try] to produce is I guess what you'd call a little outdated. I'm not to thrilled with a lot of the new stuff coming out. In my humble opinion, if you try to sound 'in style' to get signed, your stuff won't be as good as if you just made what you like. Do what comes natural, make music to make music, not to market it to a record label.

I guess I just don't like the dry sounding trance. Stuff that has lots of atmosphere like some of Above and Beyond's stuff is really nice, but when I listen to a track and it sounds like it came out of a "make trance track button" program, its just not that catchy in my mind.

Most beautiful track in my mind? No One On Earth - Above and Beyond.

That is the style I am going to start and try to shoot for.

I've been told some of my tracks sound like 90's trance. That kind of upset me at first, but I got over it, I just compose whatever comes out and I don't worry about it. I got the attention of Enoise Records, so I must be doing something right. They came to me basically, I didn't go to them. I'd probably never of had the balls to submit demos to labels. I wouldn't want to deal with rejection or their comments. I salute anyone brave enough to be sending demos out.

I think my latest tracks are sounding more modern, especially since I'm going more progressive. I refuse to follow any kind of formula though. That's why Indie labels are best, they let you do what you want, so long are your tracks are selling. Some of the best Trance I've heard is off the beaten path. Stuff like that just stands out from the rest. I mean tracks that break from the same old formula.
