any good places to hang out and meet the edm fans
whats up people of new york city.......i just recently moved to jersey from texas and i was wondering if anyone can tell me some spots in the city(nyc) to hang out and kinda meet people with similar interests in this genre of music and all that...as far as i have seen, there is nothing happening here in jersey and i've been to both the avb @ spirit and tiesto@ crobar shows and i saw that there is where all the stuff is happening...much better than texas i gotta say...anyways just holler if you know anything that can help me sorta get acquainted with the people and trance addicts in this area....

i am currently in somerset, nj...its like an hour ride to the new york penn via train..thanks for the reply..i will definitely check out the places you mentioned and try and be there at the events..gotta start somewhere
...
Welcome to NYTA, just watch out, newbies often get dished alil bit of love, you just gotta fight through it and get to know these rough skinned new yorkers!
Seho WAS a great place for this
*cries*
Any time I'm in NYC I do my best to meet up with fellow TA's. As a few people here know, my favorite spot to meet is at Brite, which is a small bar/loungy place at the corner between Spirit and Crobar. Nice central location for those 2 venues and I love their drink selection. They also have very friendy staff and enough couches and chairs to sit and relax on while chatting it up with friends.
yeah the local events in smaller venues are great places to meet ppl
then again I met a LOT of heads at the ROXY during large events and that was a HUGE place...and it was two years before I started going to lounges...I find that most ppl/TAs just welcome you with open arms as long as you are friendly. I wouldn't worry about it, even at a big event, all you need to do is recognize some of us (through pictures and stuff) so you can come up to us and say hi -- thats what I did for the most part
we dont' bite. eheh.
if ur going to Armin at Tobacco Warehouse, you'll def see a LOT of us there. heehhe
oh am gon be at the tobacco warehouse for sure.....its definitely awesome up here knowing that sooner or later some nice gig is gon come along..i mean you don't have to wait for an entire year or so like i did when i was in texas for some of the top djs to come and spin a set...but see you tend to have to alot more fun at a show when you're a bunch of people going together which i could do there but there just weren't enough shows!!...now after moving here, there's just so much variety and so many shows lined up but not enough people to go with...AS YET
...before the summer is over, i plan on definitely changing that...
...and i'll holler if recognize any NYTAs..maybe get some wisdom on how things work up here...

), but it'd help to know what types of EDM you listen to before making suggestions.

oh definitely NOT only mainstream trance...anything pretty much from trance, house, prog, to psychedelic..just not a big fan of the 170+ bpm kind of music(don't really know how to categorize it as per the genre)...i mean damn..that guy who opened for tiesto on the 5th at crobar dropped down a banging set and i don't think most of what he was playing would be considered "mainstream"...an all time favorite of mine is northsky by blackwatch...anybody heard this tune? if so, do you have a full mp3 version of it? coz what i have is the cd rip off of a liveset and it becomes sorta difficult to mix it with other songs...
<--- if you recognize me at an event, say hi! I have brown hair, a big wet nose....
No but really, as soon as you get to know a few people, you'll get to meet almost everyone else. Just get out there. Hope to see you out soon... don't be shy!!

Welcome =)
With all the different genres you listed, you definitely won't have a prob finding events any night of the week. Sullivan Room is also a good smaller venue to meet people. The weekends there tend to be packed, but Thursdays they've been having breaks, and it's got a nice fun loving crowd.

or the care bear bookbags
I also highly endorse Cielo and B.E.D. on Thursday nights if you can make it out. I realize you're in Jersey and may have work or school or whatever the next day, but they tend to get some good events and the venues are some of my favorites in the city. Luke Fair is @ B.E.D. later this month.

yeah this is one of the things i noticed...the people at the places i have been to were extremely jolly and just friendly overall...and also, going to a 21 over show is much different than going to a 18 over one init?...i mean at crobar there was some classy and posh looking people..both men and women..and i have honestly not seen that many good looking girls at a trance show...is it just coz it was tiesto? coz at spirit when avb was playing there weren't that many...
sometimes a combination of things makes a night memorable even if the dj didn't deliver as expected..if the bartenders are friendly, the bouncers, the crowd as well, the wait time in the line, then you feel good overall i think, and that in combination with a good set just makes one helluva night...
