The Cure - Lullaby

seriously, what do you guys think this song is really about?

I suspect something dodgy but I wont say what I think because I could be wrong.

I wanna hear what you think.

Lyrics:

On candystripe legs the spiderman comes
Softly through the shadow of the evening sun
Stealing past the windows of the blissfully dead
Looking for the victim shivering in bed
Searching out fear in the gathering gloom and
Suddenly!
A movement in the corner of the room!
And there is nothing I can do
And I realise with fright
That the spiderman is having me for dinner tonight!

Quietly he laughs and shaking his head
Creeps closer now
Closer to the foot of the bed
And softer than shadow and quicker than flies
His arms are around me and his tongue in my eyes
"Be still be calm be quiet now my precious boy
Don't struggle like that or I will only love you more"
But it's much too late to get away or turn on the light
The spiderman is having you for dinner tonight

And I feel like I'm being eaten
By a thousand million shivering furry holes
And I know that in the morning I will wake up
In the shivering cold

The spiderman is always hungry...

Definitely, they're awesome in more ways than one. My fave song would have to be 'love song'

You know it's just nice symbolic lyrics, it doesn't have to mean anything in particular, you can read the lyrics and make your guess. It's also more about a particular feeling they invoke, a somewhat "claustrophobic", "dark" feel.Not all lyrics are straightforward, like the lyrics in poppy progressive/trancey gabriel and dresden/filo and peri/ above and beyond/AVB etc.style tunes with pub (female usually) singers, singing about "my first time" or oh "baby i miss you". A trully bad example is the new "ordinary moment" by filo and peri. Here it is:

All I want is an ordinary moment here with you:
no distractions.
Tell the world that you're busy doing nothing;
cancel everything,
let it go.

Hey, do we know what really matters here?

We've been working so much,
We're forgetting to touch.
What have we become?
Did you know that it's a crime to never find the time to love?

Meet me in the kitchen
at the table;
I just want to be alone with you.
Stare into the eyes I've been missing;
Don't say anything.
You don't need to.

I love you.

We've been working too much
And forgetting to touch;
it's what we're guilty of.
But you know the greatest crime is that we never find the time to love... to love...

Hey, you're the only thing that matters here.

We've been working too much and forgetting to touch;
it's what we're guilty of
and you know that it's a crime to never find the time to love... to love...

It's basically a crime against creativity and art in general...i mean..."i just want to be alone with you"(shit..cliche),"you are the only thing that matters here"(more cliches?), "meet me at the kitchen in the table", (that sounds very naughty...), "But you know the greatest crime is that we never find the time to love... to love..." (in this point i vomit so, i stop)

Ehhhmm anyway, the whole "Disintegration" album is BRRIIILLLLIIIAAANNTT.An epic synth-driven orchestral masterpiece. So are "faith" and "pornography" in my opinion, very very good albums (very dark though). The Cure are very good indeed!!!

Based purely on the title, I always thought it was about dreams/nightmares. I LOVE The Cure. Disintegration, Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Faith, 17 Seconds and Entreat are among my favorite all time albums. Their later albums are a little more spotty but the still have moments of brilliance. I would have loved to have been in Germany when the performed the Trilogy. That had to be amazing.

Anyone still have a laserdisc player? I have a LD of The Cure In Orange which I NEED to transfer to DVD. I can't tell you how many time I watched it. Wore out my LD player lol.

"Be still be calm be quiet now my precious boy
Don't struggle like that or I will only love you more"
