Invisible Grin Thunderstorm

This storm was fucking BAD ASS!!! I couldn't help but sit on my front porch to try and get some photos of the lightning....

Yeah, it really sucked that I got caught in it. I'm hoping the brown suede shoes I wore today aren't ruined.

Posted by fr0st on Jun-02-2006 01:12:

you should try and photochop that light out...

If he did that, it'd look almost identical to yankeebaby's avatar (as well as someone else on TA who has the same one, though I can't remember who), which would make it less orginal

^^^Is that the same photo, there's tons more veins breaking off the main beam in the 2nd.

And, yeah, I'm no meteorologist, so I'm sure that's not what they're called.

That's what i thought, though I don't do photoshop, so I don't know what can be done. You did keep the top right vein, and didn't copy it though.

I love thunder storms and lightning! I live in Florida so I see them all the time when I get a chance. I got a Blog on my space dedicated to some of the baddest T-storms pics I found on the net. Here they are. ENJOY!!!!

THAT IS JUST SICK! LOVE IT! .

I save the best for last!! WISH I was there when this was happening.

I got caught in the storm last night as well and decided to take some pics. Unfortunately some of my better pics were lost due to water damage that the camera sustained.

This was taken at about 10 at night. The sky in the background is illuminated by lightning.

I was stuck waiting at the trainstation on Avenue J in Brooklyn for quite some time. It was hard as hell to catch pics of lightning bolts in the pouring rain with bags and an umbrella and camera in my hand but yeah.

Those are some crazy shots! I wish I had my camera out yesterday but I was on a date. The rain was so bad she nearly killed us both after missing an exit and almost slamming into the guardrail.

You must have had your cam set to a very fast shutter to get that bolt, especially in the dark.

No actually the exact opposite. I took that shot with the shutter speed set at 10 seconds / iso 1600. Trying to catch a lightning bolt with a fast shutter speed would be like a turtle trying to screw a bunny rabbit.

My ISO was at 50 which is the lowest for my camera. I have no idea what any of that means though. I just screwed around w/my camera when I first got it until I figured out how to get certain effects.

ISO is the setting that sets the light sensitivity of your camera's image sensor. Use a lower ISO setting in bright settings and a higher ISO setting in dark settings. What kind of camera are you using that has ISO 50? Most digital cams that allow you adjust the ISO go no lower than ISO 100. This is the reason your pictures turned out all blurry and over-exposed.....you should have used a higher ISO setting.

Z - Right now I'm using the Canon 350D Digital Rebel.
