Are there any programs that can record directly into mp3 at a high bitrate?

I used total recorder, it was really good but has a 40sec time limit for recording. blah! I currently used Acid pro, but it records into wav, which is way too big.

sonic foundry sound forge, can save straight to mp3.

i use goldwave, nice and simple and does teh trick for me. and it's free - ok well shareware, but nothing more than the help screen comes up for me.
