Earphones while mixing.

I'm sure a lot of people do it while playing out at a club but is it something I should really consider while mixing at home? I've been thinking a lot about it lately and really don't want to risk chances of screwing up my hearing down the road. Would a pair from cvs be just fine or would it diminish the sound too much while mixing?

ive got a pair of er-20's nothing special, but imo work great in a club, but for dj'ing, no way, the music is just way too quiet, find myself having to turn the amp up at a stupid level to hear anything with the plugs in. but the er-20's arnt made specifically for djing, i know there are some though, at a cost, read the threads in the booth, been loads of talk about the subject recently. everyones suddenly getting worried!ha, me im past it, my left ear has just blown, which is a bitch, coz it hurts everytime i cue. but invest before its too late i say.

My right ear is significantly deafer than my left because thats the ear that was turned towards the guitar amp while playing. But when I DJ at home at a reasonable volume I rarely turn the amp over half way. I try to be as minimal as possible with the headphones level for the reason of avoiding becoming totally deaf . At a club tho theres not much you can do ... gotta hear ur mix somehow

shure makes top of the line stuff. i saw ltj bukem at the vangaurd in hollywood. he was using the e5 earphones from sure, retail price is 500

and about the loudness and stuff, vangaurd has a funktion one sound system which is considered one of the best for clubs
