Randy Boyer, Kristina Sky, SIGNUM & Rank 1 @ Spundae, 6/3/06 Review + pics
Holy hell almighty. After barely any sleep, I'm still not over what was easily one of the greatest parties of my entire clubbing career. Hour after hour of madness, tunes, great people and national/international DJs.
First up on the bill was Randy Boyer, one half of Enmass. I'd never heard him play before, but was very impressed. Solid, banging great opening set which included a 2002 classic track:
Midway - Monkey Forest.
Great tune...it was jamming until the music just stopped altogether. Don't know what happened but Randy finally got the flow going back again and finished up his set.
After him came Kristina Sky. Finally, I would be seeing Ms. Sky on her home ground. Despite being an opener set, she still banged it out real good...100x better than her Spundae Pool Party set from WMC. Her closing track was just for me:
Naline & Kane - Open Your Eyes (Bush 2 Bush mix)
LOVE that tune, Kristina! Thx so much for playing it! Defntely hope to see you play at Spundae again. Crowd interaction, mixing, everything was on point.
And then....came Piet from Rank 1.
There's an old saying..."Third time's a charm."
Boy is that ever fuckin' TRUE.
At long last, Piet played his Breathing (Original mix/Breaks dub) mashup...I nearly disintegrated into the floor when it came on. Good God. After THREE long years, I finally got to hear my #1 fav. song of all time played. There couldn't have been a more perfect moment. And it's on video. Even better. TOTAL FTW. Piet went on to play other tracks which included:
Rank 1 & Alex M.O.R.P.H. - Live Less Ordinary
Terry Bones - Forbidden Ways (George Hales remix)
Freddie Mercury - Love Kills (Rank 1 remix)
Cygnus X - Superstring (Rank 1 remix)
<- CLASSIC ALERT!!!
System F - Cry
Armin van Buuren - Control Freak (Sander van Doorn remix)
Reflekt featuring Delline Bass - Need to be loved (Marc van Linden remix)
Flawless, on-point mixing with nothing but energy full on through. Oh GOD. WOW.
Piet played for an hour, than Pascal from SIGNUM came on for an hour and delivered a non-stop barrage of ID tunes that just plain ROCKED. My first time ever seeing SIGNUM and I was very VERY impressed.
After Pascal was done for an hour, Piet came on for a bit then they tag-teamed for a while. That was absolutely unreal. Monumental. Phenomenal. Need I say more?
All in all, one HELLUVA party, and Piet was up to a lot of hilarious antics last night. Had me almost ROFL the whole time. Thanks SO much for my song and for the chat. Was fun smoking cigs with you.
Defintely can't wait for Orlando next month!
Kristina, great seeing you again as well. You're one helluva down-to-earth chick. I heart you! <3
Starboy and Stargirl: I LOVE hangin' with you guys! Sucks so bad you had a noon flight to go home.
More shoutouts to come later...
TONS of pics and videos will be up when I come home tomorrow...but for now, some much needed rest.
One...VERY....VERYYYYY....satisfied DarkAngel of TRANCE.
Sounds sick man...glad you had fun.

dammit!! u go big bro
i'm sure rank 1 + signum + more rocked it...
if Lis was there she would have ID's all of pascals set like in San Fran!
Much love see ya soooooooooooon

fantastic review, wish i was there
Randy is a good DJ, I opened for him up here in San Francisco a few months ago... lots of fun! He lives down there so I imagine you'll see him playing quite a bit. Hopefully he has some new productions in the works as well
what an awesome night. it started off at the sushi restaurant, where i finally got to meet raul, drew, iyad, leann(stargirl, sorry forgot your name already), stephen (turbosomething), and then saw michelle, sara, philippe, chris, bjorn, and a few others. good sushi at that place.
so then we left at about 915 for circus. got there at about 930 and waited in line for like 20mins or so for tickets. got tickets and went in. it was pretty dead. missed most of randys set but what i saw of him was great. played some awesome tracks. got him to sign my shirt also.
then kristina got on and continued the energy that randy started. she played some awesome tracks and as always her mixing was spot on. she was having a great time. i missed a bit of her set because i wanted to get swedish egil to sign my shirt so i was in the back room for a little while.
swedish egil, from what i saw, put on a great set. good track selection and he really loves what he does. he gets really into it. chris was talking to him to promote a friend of his and gave him a promo for him to check out. i really like his style of mixing. nice and flowing.
then i went back into the main room and listened to the rest of kristinas set till piet got on. before he got on we were all just hanging with him and chatting. Piet thanks for hanging out with us. so he got on and spun for an hour. he had a very energetic and banging hour. it was awesome.
then pascal got on and continued. he was also hanging and chatting with us. it was awesome. he was great.
then they had the tagteam and it was awesome.
all in all i had a great night. thanks michelle for getting my shirt!
After partying in Vegas on Friday and LA last night, I'm one really exhausted but happy girl
LA was definitely more fun (Ice was only half full the whole night and the party pretty tame) but Piet and Pascal's sets were simply perfect both nights. I just don't enjoy any other dj's sets as much as I do theirs. And I can't get enough of Live Less Ordinary!!!

Great to see all the usual and "unusual" (Star team & Dark Angel) suspects last night!
Pics from both nights: Clicky
P.S. Wilhelm: Thank you for being a great friend and looking after me
I had an amazing time!
(Sorry but it's physically impossible for me to write even a half decent review since I'm a wreck right now
)
sushi meet up was a nice way to start the evening! pretty decent sushi and cheap. my total bill was $23. noice.
get to spundae around 9:30-9:45 and catch the rest of randy's set which was very good btw! nice to see him behind the decks and dance to his tracks. awsome track towards the end by G&D and of course i can't remember the name of it even though i asked. thanks for the cd randy.
then of course kristina just rocks it out, been way too long since i've seen her last and i needed my ksky fix. she had the crowd rocking and she just seems the happiest behind the decks. such a great opening set.
then piet and pascal get there and was very happy to see piet jump behind the decks first b/c i was ready. imo, he never disappoints! great set, amazing energy, mixing flawless, track selection to die for as always. the room was jumping and the crowd was having a blast. tons of fun hanging with piet between sets/ smoke breaks. pascal's set was just as much fun. i was a bit too wine drunk so i had a hard time dancing so i just kinda bobbed alot but i truly enjoyed myself the whole night.
stepped in the back room for a minute during victor's set and of course he was tearing up the room but couldn't stay away from the main room.
so great seeing everyone and being at spundae. it has been over a month since i have been there and i totally miss that vibe.
thanks again to the djs for amazing music and making us all dance. it was a blast. crawled into bed around 5 am. there was no way i could do afterhours, way too much wine and my bed was calling my name.
thanks michelle for arranging the TA meet up and for the ride and fun as always. piet, as always, a pleasure. you are truly one of my favorites and for very good reason. remember, october, you need to be back here!
and riia, for god's sake, delete that picture of me and xenpro's girl. my god i was hammered.

Highlights of the night for me were hearing Salt Tank "Eugina" while waiting at the bar for drinks and telling my friend that "Kristina Sky must be on now!" He replied, "no it's some guy," but we got to the floor and realized that it was def Kristina's unmistakeable trademark sound and Randy had just ended his set (sorry I missed it while dealing with the line outside, I'm sure was good).

Was great to hear Piet play Cygnus X "Superstring". I was back and forth between the rooms most of the night, really hard to decide where to stay with so much good music.

Props to everyone upstairs for such good sets too! Victor's set was also quite nice.
Then later I bounced over to the back room and there's this DJ I've never heard before wearing a cowboy hat and the room was totally going off, energy like you wouldn't believe after 3 a.m.!

A lot of new music I haven't heard too and most excellent track selection including Sasha "Xpander." The club staff kept trying to turn his set off in the middle of his last song, but the vibe was just too intense and he fought them off right down to the last beat....aaaaaaaaaaah, it was meant to be!
Got one of his promo CD's on the way out...thanks Cowboy Mike for spinning at Spundae, hope to hear you again soon! Overall, I was really impressed with the talent of the up and coming DJ's, this is where it all begins!
