Trance and prog trance people

when yall are doing mixes how long are yalls transitions between songs. meaning 32 beats 64 beats 96 beats and so on, or in bars. i know some songs are a bit different and require short ones but in general how long are they. mine are usally 64-96 beats or 16 to 24 bars. is this considired a long or shor mix.

ususally 4 to 6 phases for a smooth progressive transition (and i mix prog trance where it works well)

i would really consider 1 minute short, thats what i try and go for when i mix trance. when i mix prog trance, or more usually prog house i do some around 3 minutes.

So 3 minutes of the track is already lost when you have fully brought it in?

not LOST, mixed, ur losing nothing at all, in fact if im mixing prog trance i try to mix as long as possible, some mixes go for 3-4 minutes if they happen to work as u blend them in and out and cut them. Obviously this is very rare, but does happen.

I dont like 1 minute mixes (~128 beats), they're too short, i try to mix tracks for a minimum of 1.5 mins (~192 beats), the more the merrier as long as it sounds good.

if u can make a 32 beat mix sound awesome then that's all that really matters

All tracks are built up in parts so when you know how a track is build up you know when to make the transission as simple as that.

There aren't any standard rule when to make the transission and another thing is if the two tracks are dissharmonic you better take the first track out before the second tracks lead comes into play.

Yeah... I know what you mean. I am just one of them mixers who likes to hear most of the song in its entirety. Like, I know a lot of people like such smooth transitions that you can't even tell bass change, where I personally like to hear that sudden transition in a track. It helps recycle the energy, in my opinion.

i mix in right after the break or 32 bars after for a harmonic mix, 32/64 bars before the end for a non-harmonic (usually)

I usually go for short transitions - 32 to 128. I like the contrast it creates.

as ossie said. but i change when im playing different styles, thats prog house i usually do thnat, tech-trance is usually a lot differet, as you said i make the change noticeable but i keep the song s going together for a while.

For Prog & Uplifting trance... 32 bar mixing almost a minute

For Tech Trance... 16bar

For Techno... 16bar

For House.. 8bar

Bottom line right here.

Varies hugely from the occasional drop mix up to about a 2m long "normal" mix, but sometimes I'll overlay an entire track over another, so would you count that as a very long mix?
