ADSL 2 - Help Please
Okay.
Moved to lygon st.
Need ADSL 2 connection.
approx 30GB - 50GB download cap
only wanna pay about $80 - $90 per month
A) do i need to pay line rental with telstra/optus?
B) is there an ISP plan that involves line rental, but still keeping costs down?
C) Which is relieable and most cost effective?
All the reading about it is doing my head in.
put those same requirements into www.whirlpool.net
problem i found with adsl 2 in sydney, which is why i haven't switched. Is that the ISP what you to put your line rental through them, this would have increased my rental by $10 a month, plus the extra for getting adsl 2, so yea i'm waiting till i can get adsl 2 and keep my current landline rental. A few people are offering it, but not in my area
yeah i think the dsl2 services are on a seperate service to the pre existing telstra services in the exchange in the area. hence why you need a seperate line to the one you already have now.. btw im envious. die a slow death.
Our exchange is just up the road so i would be getting max speeds but need to know if i should call telstra and get line renatal or not to get things started.?
No, the ADSL companies (to my understanding) are using their own dedicated lines.. as far as I know - the dsl2 lines are NOT leased from telstra.. hence why dsl2 is a bit cheaper than adsl, because it doesnt include the cost of the linelease from hell$tra. Give iinet or someone who does ADSL2 a call..
well you do need a phone line.......
and it's NOT a seperate phone line for adsl2, it's just it doesnt use the telstra dslam's, it uses dslam put in by other company. (ie it's just different on the exchange end)

yeh ben give whirlpool a shot, see what u come up with in there OR
give primus a call, i know that primus offer it in packages, and depending on the exchange you mite be able to run straight through primus, as they have there own dslams in at various exchanges accros australia
but definitely look at whirlpool, and find a company that's right for you, also you can read feedback on them in the forums.... and prolly worth checking out what bundling options that company has too (do companies include line rental as part of bundling these days too??)
thats the word dslam.. im not gonna pretend like i even know what a dslam is, im just echoing what i have read =)

I'm with TPG (www.tpg.com.au) and they're great. Line rental thru Telstra, $40 per month gets me 6GB, with only $60 setup fee.
argh - TPG hasn't got the DSLAM on the Carlton exchange yet. Never mind.
