Awestruck
I dont know how many people are with me, or how many people are going to flame. I honestly dont even know if something like this has even been posted before. I have been an overall electronic music fan since ive been like 5. I have started to grow more interested in specific styles, like house, trance, etc. Living in Vegas, I think I can safely say that not that many people will openly admit to liking electronic music. Im usually ridiculed by family and friends that this music is "gay" and whatnot while they listen to repeated Lil' John and fiddy cent, which just gives me a headache. So it makes it really hard to learn about trance or house without getting continuously slammed. With this in mind, I have really had no one to help show me good artists other than the big obvious ones like Armind and Tiesto. I have only just recently discovered that trance is broken down into subgroups like hardtrance and uplifting, etc. I have found some obscure artists that I really like, but I can never find an album, vinyl, or anything on them. I dont even know if they are really considered obscure. Then I found tranceaddict, which just utterly blows me away by how deep this genre goes, which only adds to my confusion and interest. At 16, I dont know if im just too young to know or im just too stupid to know about this genre of music. So basically im just asking... Does anybody feel the same way? Where do you begin? What do you do? How do you find CD's or vinyls with artists like Alex Trackone, Nebulus, and Amara? Who are the artists to start with in hardtrance, hardhouse? Im sorry that a newbie is basically begging for help, but im hopefully assuming that there are others who feel the same as I do.
You live in Vegas huh? Ever heard about DJ Luxor? Apparently he's all the rage.

Re: Awestruck
i can definitely relate to your situation as far as not really knowing a lot of other people who are into edm. its tough because you cant really find people to go to shows with or talk about music. im trying to turn some of my friends on to it but a lot of them just find it "boring and repetitive". i guess i just have to make more friends. but the feeling i get from this music is well worth being somewhat of an outcast for a while, i just love it so much.
Get a start with http://www.di.fm/edmguide/edmguide.html @ Ishkur's guide to electronic music. Its pretty good.
