Recommend an album to 'get someone into trance'

After 3 months of dating, my girlfreind still hates my music selection just as much as the day we met. I have my turntables and would love nothing more than it spin a set or 2 while she watches, just so i have an audience.

She likes oldies.... like 1960's oldies 'because everything was so upbeat and nice back then' which is weird because shes only 21.....

Anyway, im looking for someone to recommened an album for me to buy her so she can kind of get her feet wet and open her mind to some great songs that there are.

Im considering the super cheesy route and almost putting shivers and as the rush comes and all that other garbage on their, but since she doesnt know very much about the genre she wont appreciate a higher level of production than the very commercial stuff.

thanks

Chad

It depends, honestly you'll get better results if you find out what kind of 'sound' she likes. So just play like a record from a genere/style of what you think she might like, then just ask on here or using your knowledge burn her some CDs / spin some shit in that style.

For example, I found out my girlfriend LOVES the dark tribial proggy stuff.. So I gave her Lights Out 1 and a bunch of other stuff. She hated EDM at first but now is starting to apperciate it more and more.

It just takes time and effort :P

But if you want general trance selections, maybe look into some ISOS 1/2/3? BT's work, Kyau and Albert or some Micro de Govia.

Why is it so important to you that she enjoy your music?

Buy her Crazy Frog and tell her to shut the fuck up. Or break up with her. Either way, you aren't going to change her opinion of your music.

lol its important to me because then she wont roll her eyes when im all fucking pumped up about some new track on my ipod thats playing when i pick her up. Granted its not like i would ever change the song to really appeal to her unless it was like a looooong car ride, but i have enjoyed my journey thus far into the trance scene and wish i could share it with someone else i share everything else with.

Why not play some house music that always works out better for females, Swedish House Mafia, David Guetta, or Bob Sinclar.

Long ago I was in the same boat you were. It was hard because in the car I wanted to listen to the music I loved, yet she hated it. What changed everything was one night, some pills, and Xpander. From that night forward, our musical tastes have been one and that was 5 years ago.

Your girlfriend is a moron. Or maybe you are. Or both. The point is, break up with her immediately and find someone who at least respects the things that are important to you.

give her some cheese

why u wanna get her feet wet? there is another area you should be concentrating on.

i think trance is a really shit genre, and you will have problems getting someone to like it, if they hate it already.

why don't you try some soulful/funky house or deep house?

Unless you don't like in which case it's not her who needs to change music taste.

But if not you could always try stuff like Miguel Migs - 24th Street Sounds.

i recommended Danny Howells' EM (2002-07-28) in some other thread. It contains lots of oldies as you can see in the Tl.

Doves - "Firesuite" (Heavenly)
Madonna & Massive Attack - "I Want You" (Maverick)
Simian - "The Wisp" (Source)
Polar - "Nightwatch" (Certificate 18)
Danny Byrd - "Expanded Remix" (Hospital)
Agent Black - "Feel Good" (Ivory)
The Funky Lowlives - "Inside [Dorfmeister vs Uptight Dub]" (Stereo Deluxe)
Primal Scream - "Screamadelica" (Creation)
Aloof - "Never Get Out Of The Boat" (FFRR)
Beastie Boys - "Shadrach" (Capital)
Kool & The Gang - "Spirit Of The Boogie" (De-Lite)
artist unknown - "Excerpt from James Brown Live At The Apollo Vol 2" (label unknown)
Patti Jo - "Make Me Believe In You" (Strut)
Prince - "Drum Link" (label unknown)
Cerrone - "Sweet Drums" (Atlantic)
First Choice - "Love Thang" (Salsoul)
Raw Silk - "Do It To The Music" (West End)
Sir Drew - "Fat Foot" (King Size)
Spooky - "Something's Got To Give" (Guerilla)
Age Of Chance - "Flame On" (Virgin)
Ekova - "Heaven's Dust" (Six Degrees)
Candida - "Jingo" (Danny Howellsi [Kitchen Sink Mix])
Mekon & Marc Almond - "Please Stay [Royskopp Mix]" (Wall Of Sound)
Clash - "Rock The Casbah" (Columbia)
Beatles - "Strawberry Fields Forever" (Apple)
Ringo Starr - "Strawberry Drums Forever [DH Re-Edit]" (Apple)

Theres lots of good electronica out there that she could probably enjoy.

Shpongle!!! She'll love it!

Posted by DOOMBOT on Jun-10-2006 17:52:

That's why you do what I did with my girlfriend...

Right from the get go you tell her if she doesn't learn to like the music then it's probably not going to work.

1 year later, she is just as pumped to see Armin as I am.

Posted by v3ct0r on Jun-10-2006 18:24:

Unless you play the cheesy Euro-Pop/Nasty/Tiesto @ Disney shit, you probably won't get her with pure trance.

Try something like GU013 by Sasha, I've found A LOT of people can appreciate that compilation that hate EDM in general, its got something magical about it. 76 by AvB is a nice, uplifting, APPROACHABLE trance album to try if you want to take the cheesy route.

How come no one mentioned Tranceport yet?

Posted by The 3am Junkie on Jun-10-2006 18:35:

I'd say go with Tranceport by Oakenfold, pretty good introduction to trance imo. Havana EM by Oakenfold might work too, or basically any EM from the 99 world tour.

lol i posted at the same time you did, talking about Tranceport

lol why are you expecting her to change and you are not?

Posted by Spirit5 on Jun-10-2006 19:38:

My opinion is don't start her off with a bunch of full on trance or really hard stuff. Find lighter (not super-cheesy) stuff that is trance like, like some more downtempo releases and mix that in with some melodic trance. If you have it, ethereal-pop stuff like Delerium and Enigma and Balligomingo and even Ulrich Schnauss and put some more mainstream dance stuff like Andain's "Beautiful Things", and possibly weave in some Above & Beyond and Armin releases, like "Far From Love", "No One On Earth" and "Never Wanted This", "Burned With Desire" or "Yet Another Day". Don't start her off with the really high BPM trance stuff, just lighter stuff that has hints of trance music, or a little tease, but isn't like a full on Armin van Buuren, PvD or Gareth Emery set... put stuff in that she can identify more with, like vocal based music, more structured stuff. Even some house would be nice as well, so a variety....

Chicane - Behind the Sun
BT - IMA

Let her listen to whatever she wants to and stop being a trance missionaire.

How many lollipops did you need to get her into your white van?
