[REVIEW] Sasha, Satoshi, Lavelle June 9 ,2006

My first time out in about 5 months. I've never seen a crobar line move as efficiently as it did yesterday, so thumbs up to that (arrived at 1:20, in at 1:35). i thought Satoshi delivered yesterday. Sasha played a pretty sick hour before being replaced by Lavelle. Lavelle on his own is fantastic, bus his musical style doesn't fit into what sasha was working to build. Lavelle was a pleasant surprise last night and i actually enjoyed it. i stayed til only about 4:15 but it was a good time nonetheless. hope everyone else had a great time.

so who got stuck in the rain around 10pm?

Posted by KaNoS on Jun-10-2006 16:26:

there was barely any rain in the city, at least till about midnight, thats when I got into crobar.
Satoshi was by far the best of the night. I was disapointed that Sasha played such a short set, and also that by the time he started playing you could barely move. Lavelle did quite a sudden change from what both Satoshi and Sasha had been playing. It was kinda abrupt but refreshing, for a while. i left around 5, i just got tired of not being really able to dance, or get hit every 5 min while trying to get into the music.

Posted by umes23 on Jun-10-2006 16:29:

lavelle was horrific. awful music and multiple trainwrecks. i really hated that sasha let him play the main hours of the night.... he better not fucking do anything more than opening in dc tonight. UGH!!!!!!!!!! wasted precious hours.

although, when sasha played from 5-7 he fucking pounded it with a full-on set with lots of nostalgic hints.... and i never thought i'd see the day.... XPANDER (over a new bassline)

well we started out to the movies around 9:30...and the rain escalated with every passing minute...when we arrived 10 minutes later the parking lot was almost *flooded* (like at LEAST 2 inches on the ground) and it was coming down HARD!!! luckily by the time we left the show (12:30) it had ended...

well anyway im surprised to hear that sasha did not get the majority of the night...interesting...has that ever happened in previous shows?

Sasha probably got off early because his computer wasn't working properly. Wouldn't make any sense to resort back to cd's or vinyl.

Zack & Keryn was great !

nice set guys..

satoshi was ok.. dropping too much bombs too early, his set was all over the place.

i left before sasha got on.

I refuse to let lavelle ever get another cent out me.....

Posted by Shamez214 on Jun-10-2006 17:26:

Was it as crowded as I thought it was going to be?

Posted by pyro264jb on Jun-10-2006 17:52:

Satoshi was great. His track selection had that old quality sound to it. Sasha gets on around 2 somthing and delivered an amazing fucking set. He actually dropped this song which was a about 7 years old [[ LINK REMOVED ]]
. Very hot track. JL gets on after sasha and was very good also. Then Sasha gets back to fucking with our minds for the rest of the night. I haven't heard him like this since Space in miami.

... This was the kind of party that you hate to miss

Sidenote... Did anyone see that guy get his head smashed open around 3?(tom got pics)

ps. The crowd was perfect. Alot of kids but they were all behaving.

I had a great night out in NYC Good seeing everyone...

Sasha was pretty fun as usual...didnt get to stay as long as I wanted as my friends brought me over to Love afterhours around 545 and I had a blast there as well...

Anyway James LaVelle I didn't really care for....trainwrecks galore + shitty track selections/awful flow+ even stopping the music completely to bring in a track that totally didnt fit at all with the other tracks in Underworld - Dark and Long (Dark Train Mix).
Satoshi wasn't bad...he was dropping some nice bombs when I walked into the room but wasnt as impressive as his boston showing last december...

Trainspots:

Satoshi Tomiie:

Hugg and Pepp - Snabein

James LaVelle:

Coburn - We Have the Technology
Underworld - Dark and Long (Dark Train)

Sasha:

Lostep - Burma (Sasha Remix)

I hope to come back to the city soon and I will definitely be at Love again as well Time to pass out finally at 230 pm lol

coo night overall. satoshi played alotta cool new shit on his saw label. didnt like how lavelle went on peak hours of the night and played some weird rock fused edm stuff and his mixing sucked. sasha was pretty good..though expected more from him, played alot of fillers.

tracks i remember:

satoshi:
jim rivers - restore
d2 feat dan diamond - therapy (piece process remix) (when i go out to a nightclub ya know..im not going for the fire coming out of the walllls..etC)
satoshi tomiie - glow

sasha:
burmaaaa (sasha mix)..so good
yoshimoto - du what u du (paul woolford rmx)
francois dubois - blood
orbital - halycon (on and on)..cantt believe he dropped that..never heard tha tin a club before and omgg so good
depeche mode - suffer well (peter rauhofer dirty monkey mix)..BOMB!

lavelle:
royksop - what else is there (trentemoller rmx)-best tune lavelle played imho

all i can remember thus far

First, all of you who complained that sasha's set was short have only yourselves to blame for leaving early. To be honest, I was just running around having fun last night, and didn't even notice who the fuck was spinning most of the time. We got there at about 11 to catch Zack and Kerrine's set. Highlight of that set for me was when they threw on PQM - You Are Sleeping. I know a lot of people took off to the main room when it opened at about 11:30, but the last track that Zack threw on before the hip hop guy was his first production, and I liked it. Good work, Zack.

Lots of great tracks tonight, though I wouldn't say it was the best group of main room sets I've heard. You guys already IDed most of the biggies. Sasha also dropped Halcyon during his residency last year, so it was good hearing that again. I wasn't annoyed with the crowd last night and it was better than we expected. Bracelets were nice for when it was really packed. Christina commented early on (like 12:45) that the crowd was older than she expected for an 18+ night.

We closed out the night, then went with a huge group to afterhours @ Love, only for me to catch Damian Lazarus and Three getting into a cab right around the block from the club. Gabe called from the other car and said they'd gone to Sol, but at that point (like 8 am), we decided we were done for the night. God, I drank so much red bull last night, though, and it was even tough to fall asleep when we got back.

Who's up for Pacha tonight? Barosoap can't go because she's got a funeral at 8am Sunday morning, so I'll be wandering around looking for peeps (or prey as Barosoap puts it).

But that's exactly his style. I personally don't mind his tracks, but then ago, I was a rock fan before I was an EDM fan. he was a hell of a lot better than when I last saw him (opening for JXL a year ago).

I've heard it TWICE now. See why I'm a Sasha whore.

BTW, he was really animated last night, jumping around, smiling and having a good time.

Posted by bogartgreens on Jun-10-2006 22:48:

damn, i too would have given an arm and a leg to hear that track (Halcyon and On) dropped live..sasha would be the last person id expect to play that for some reason...

now im curious to see what kinda stuff he'll throw down when i see him next week @ bonnaroo considering its a generally non-edm crowd

Posted by trancintaiwan on Jun-10-2006 22:54:

nice.. i couldn't remember the name of the old school track he dropped but now i know its halcyon+on+on. it was on the tip of my tongue.. just couldn't remember the title at that moment.

Not really my cup of tea regarding the genre of music. I enjoy house music... just not that branch of it. Still tried to have a good time anyway though. I was introduced to a plethora of T.A.'s and their friends. Nice meeting everyone. Whoever met me and Blake yesterday can you please say "I" lol.

Didn't take to many pics and videos like I normally do. Here are some below.

Me neither. I barely looked at the DJs last night, except at the end of the night, which is the part I was talking about. The reason I commented because people always bitch that him and PvD always suck out the vibe because they're never smiling and having fun when they DJ. Last night should have been an exception for those people

great event, could have gone without seeing that dude get his ass kicked by bouncers, could have sworn he was dead when he hit the floor, but had a lot of fun . wish sasha played more ;/
