Smiley DJ How to stream DI.FM to your cell phone!

Hey all I just picked up the new Sprint PPC-6700 and I just got it setup to stream DI.fm (128k prem) wirelessly through the cellular EVDO connection. Meaning wherever I go I can listen to DI without being on a PC or hardline connection. I even have the phone hooked up to my car stereo so when I'm driving I can stream too. I've attempted to do this for the last 4 years with 3 different PPC phones and had no success until now. Sprint's new EVDO data network is the only celllular connection in the US that will support the download of 128kbps streaming audio. This phone also can be hacked to stream the radio into your Bluetooth headset / headphones (wirelessly) as well. There are two programs out there that will support DI.FM's shoutcast playlist: Winampaq or Pocket Player. You'll need to visit DI and actually SAVE or DOWNLOAD the .pls file to your phones main memory then open it through one of the players above. The sound card inside the PPC-6700 is said to be better then the IPODs and from using it over the last week I think that it is. Anyone out there with a PPC-6600 or Treo's usually can get this working too but you'll have to listen on the lower quality stream due to the cellular network... Ok well, just figured this was a cool little bit of info some of you out there might find usefull... I just love hearing the ad that comes on DI with the girl saying..." Can't take Digitally Imported with you? Then take the tunes..." lol...

fyi...please note that streaming should work with any .pls broadcasting radio station not just DI.fm. The highest quality I've streamed with no buffering is 192kbps...

That bloody impressive thne... here to use gprs internet (never ever gonna be able to hold 64k stream leat alone 128 or 192k) it costs 4 per 1mb downloaded!

Just wondering what technology your running this with?

Had a scout on that site and it dont seem to shed too much light onto it. I know it could be 3G, but you say you've ahd 192k streams supported.

IS this typical, or under optimal conditions?

This has interested me a lot.

You know... I've never owned a cellphone in my miniscule existence. But you are making me want to purchase one right about now.

Im running the new Windows Mobile 5.0 which is the operating system that comes with the PPC-6700. Now as far as the download speed... (-: I did a speed test from the web on the phone and it show 3.1 MB/ps DOWNLOAD and about 768k Up...lol about the speed of your average Comcast Cable modem which costs 42.95/m. Built into the phone there is an option to use it as either a wireless access point or a modem/gateway to the net. I've hooked up the cell to my wireless router and home and supplied internet throughout my whole house via the cell connection. (just to test it) On my way to work this morning I was listening to the main Trance channel sitting in a traffice jam on the highway when the DI station ID played and then a DI commerical. I guess the guy next to me heard it cuz he yelled at me and he was like "are u listening to DI in your car?" lol.

Sneaker Pimp

on a side note, DI isn't the only thing you can stream...this is were EVERYONE out there should get JEALOUS! I setup a Shoutcast server on my home pc and added all 5000 of my mp3s to the servers playlist. Then I setup remote desktop on the PC so I can log into the server remotely and control the songs that are being played. I setup the playlist to broadcast at 192kbps then started streaming to my phone. IT WORKS PREFECTLY. Whever I go I have wireless access to ALL of my music. I can stream it through the air to my car or to my headphones wherever there is cell service! Who needs an IPOD now lol? 50g hard drive on your IPOD? How bout 600 GIGs of harddrive access wireless through the AIR? (-:

lol ok sorry not trying to brag I just thought this was really freaking cool and I'll gladly help anyone else out there setup this same thing. (-:
