Paul Oakenfold - A Lively Mind

this is something to blast when friends are over and you just want mindless beats, almost completely ignoring the music in the background.
a couple of songs are very catchy and fun but overall its very lackluster. a few standout tracks and alot of filler. among the best:

Amsterdam (best of the lot)
Sex N' Money (catchy as hell)
Faster Kill Pussycat (vocals are quite delecious)
Set It Off (grandmaster flash...nuff said)
Not Over (excellent trancer)
Vulnerable (eerie melody)

so thats exactly half the tracks. 5.5/10. save your money, Bunkka was much better.

I wont bother critisizing the shit tracks. they speak for themselves.

This Paul Oakenfold album reminds me a lot of this rock group called Monster Magnet. They were fucking awful, but every now and then you need to just put on some shit rock and blast it out just so you can realize how good everything else is. It's all about rage and contrast my good man, rage and contrast.

hehe pretty much. but the tracks I mentioned are quite good, which means he had the potential to make a solid album. oh well, at least hes back on track with his Djing. shame he cant juggle both the DJing and producing.

Save the last trance for me is quite epic and does a good job on the dancefloor but I would never listen to it more than once. The rest well.....

i do like a number of the songs in particular, faster kill pussycat and my fave is ssave the last trance for me...but every song is ripped of another song...which is a shame. where does "Save the last trance for me" come from?

Posted by RapidFire on Jun-17-2006 00:05:

I think Blend Fourty 3. but dont quote me on it, I may have it mixed up with another track off Pvd's mixmag cd.

I picked this up at the store the other day, had it in my hand, looked at the cover, looked at the tracks, put it back down a walked away. My experience with this cd... not so good oakie...

Posted by RapidFire on Jun-17-2006 23:24:

so did you actually listen to it?

Posted by the_bear on Jun-23-2006 21:43:

I havent picked up the cd yet, but heard quite a few of the tracks on his 17th EM, quite liked some of the tracks, although I doubt I'd go and buy the album, when I can here them mixed with some other good shit for free.

Oakenfold needs to retire, put up his headphones, and just quit. Seriously, everything on this album is a copy of an existing track. He can't even come up with his own ideas anymore. See kids, this is why you don't do coke.

I've had a high regard for Paul Oakenfold up until hearing his new track Faster Kill pussycat..(shit trackname) its like listening to some chessy pop song or a Pink song...and some of the songs sound familiar to his past songs, which wouldn't have been a bad thing if his new songs were as good as his old stuff.

- Faster Kill Pussycat // utter rubbish, +cheesy music video
- No Compromise // bah
- Sex n Money // meh crap
- Switch On // just sounded like ready steady go.. just not as good
- Ansterdam // wasn't too bad, does get kinda repetitive
- Set it off // Wassup Paul repeat repeat... mega shit x5
- The way I feel ft ryan // not a bad track this one
- Praise the lord // absolute rubbish
- Save the last trance for me // fairly good trance one
- Not Over ft ryan // yeah not a bad one to listen too
- Vulnerable // not too bad either
- Feed your mind // an ok song

Mixed feelings about this album, its not all entirely bad, just has some really shit songs in it, his past albums I've felt all worked well in the album and it all sounded good thus making a better album. Don't think this album will get played a lot if at all.
