any trance lovers from Ithaca?

sorry, gotta put myself out there heheh...im from upstate, go to Ithaca College and ofcourse the city is where it's at i know...but i was just curious if there's any local ithaca party-goers here? thanks

Not enough trance over at Ruloff's and the Palms?

Sorry, never found lots of EDM in Ithaca when I was there. Now if you're into jam bands and hippies... The Grassroots Festival in Trumansburg in July is fun.

Posted by yankeeBaby on Jun-16-2006 00:04:

hehe I grew up on cayuga lake...I will be back in a few weeks to visit the rents Never had any EDM friends in Ithaca, and still dont.

However, the grassroots fest has a similar atmosphere.....errr.....drugs.......as some of the EDM music festivals hahah.....

sorry bro, I wish I could point you in the direction of a good Ithaca club, but it simply does not exist!!

go to grad school up at cornell, so i feel your pain. it's not a scene, but here's what i can gather. there's a "club" called b-level right next to siam and the pizza place. they have a dj booth and all and one club tried throwing a proper club night. have to say, when the dj tried to spin electro the time i went, he was put up against opposition to play hip hop. there are some local dj's and they did try to have a reg thursday night thing at the lost dog cafe downtown. it even had mr c last year. don't know if it's still up and running.

The Lost Dog has good sweet potato fries and sandwiches.

hehe yea im well aware of the great jamband scene we have in ithaca...it does have a nice feel to it and enjoyable but not for those who have trance in their hearts ...perhaps if we could get an electronic residency going at the nines we could build up the "scene" a little bit. im a sophomore over at IC so there's still time to get things going lol. actually i dont know if any of you heard but there was a decent party last year on a field off 96b i guess...heard they played decent house but it got busted as a "rave"?? on campus my gf and i try and spread the good word of trance but its haaaaaaard....too many discobiscuits fans and the like. ill be back in ithaca in mid-july if anyone wants to hang out and listen or spin some trance hit me up....

Good luck. Went to school in Ithaca for undergrad as well and Minneec and I spent many weekends travelling back to the city just to attend good EDM events. During one semester I actually spent more weekends in NYC than Ithaca lol

I heard there is actually a decent rave scene upstate, but I never pursued it. There was a YahooGroup dedicated to upstate raves but I'm not sure how active it is now. I'd try searching the web for promoter sites. You may also have better luck closer to Syracuse. And another idea is maybe try to organize a smaller EDM event at a frat house, say in the basement while they're throwing a regular party upstairs. If you have friends that spin, it might be easier than finding a "club" with EDM.

^^ the scene is much bigger in Roch and B-lo....I guess the closer to canada you get, the more EDM.....both cities have...errr...decent clubs and have a bigger scene for raves and such (keep in mind they are small cities).

A LOT of people in Rochester listen to EDM, especially the college students I have noticed.

the first time i was in oswego for school i didnt hear any EDM i was going through major withdrawls.. makes me appreciate the city so much more now lol..

we're deff spoiled here haha.

^^ hehe awwww the nut house didn't do it for ya eh? lol As little EDM is there is up there, I always had a good time visiting (my sister and best friend both went there!) Bridge Street run!!

Posted by DeRangedMind on Jun-18-2006 06:40:

It really shouldn't matter where people like trance but but most of the time you have to travel if you have friends in other county'state or even countrys. Since your in New York it shouldn't be so tough. As for me Northern VA is little different since rednecks or idiot thug leaders are so open to different music, narrow minded fucks. Well good luck meeting someone

I live over in Rochester and a good amount of the students do listen to EDM. No one plays it at parties though which is kinda stupid imo. I know for sure people would be dancing like crazy if some tracks were played besides all the rap that is on the radio stations. Then all everyone wants to do is just drink and not even get down with someone else. I find it boring when I go to parties like that and everyone is just standing around doing nothing just waiting to play either beer pong or flip cup or something. Sorry just ranting but seriously. I don't think there is a scene over here, but I know for sure that people listen to this music we just have to get it out there!!

And btw...what raves do you know of over here in Rochester? I went to some back when I was like 15 but now I'm 19 and I don't remember anything about the scene or who to contact anymore.

I do not expect too much on (EDM) scene in Rochester,NY.But It was surprised when Sasha and Digger visited Rochester,NY about 4 yrs ago. And, Max Graham came by Rochester few yrs ago too. Other than those, It's pretty much nothing. Me and couple of TAs from my school usually go to Toronto, NYC, and D.C for raves.

P.S Where in Rochester do u live Lindo?

Posted by Lindo on Jun-20-2006 06:08:

I live in the suburbs...Gates to be exact. The scene is pretty much dead for EDM I figured since the raves went dead now.

Posted by SebringVandit on Jun-21-2006 01:55:

The rave scene used to be pretty vibrant upstate during the late 90s / early 00s in Binghamton, Ithaca and Syracuse. I don't know much of what goes on there anymore, if anything, but there was a whole crew of DJs, the Bubblecrew based in Binghamton.

Posted by SebringVandit on Jun-21-2006 01:56:

And for those who didn't think that area could draw some good DJs, Mark Farina and DJ Dan once spun in Ithaca (once upon a time)...

Posted by SPAWNmaster on Oct-19-2006 20:05:

well i heard in the 90's there was a venue in ithaca where they spun good techno and house....now that im a DJ ive been going so out of my way to get a gig out here...dropped off some promo's made plenty of phone calls...anyone know any promoters from ithaca...old contacts they could help me out with??? I've been networking lately and I have a lot of contacts with groups that play out at several local venuse but no luck so far. Any advice? Thanks...

Couldn't have been said any better. Im at Colgate University which is also upstate in hamilton, ny and everyone here is just into jam band music and when i play some trance at a party everyone yells to turn it off. It's a sad sad scene up here...

yea thats him.. my macro teacher lol.. and yes i go to binghamton university, he works in both places, mwf he's in bing and t/th he's in ithaca college.. there isnt really that big of a trance scene here afaik i know a couple of kids who are into it.. all the clubs play nonsense thouhg.. no EDM .. they sometimes put house on the flyers but youd' be dead to hear anything resembling house

Posted by 4clubber on Oct-21-2006 06:43:

i go to cornell, and here we have a pretty solid club called "The Electronic Music Collective"...in the past we had gigs at Castaways (Ibiza3 party and Element party) and one time at Level-B, all of which were pretty good, especially the Ibiza3 party which drew masses of mostly international students (i.e. all the bulgarians from ithaca college) and it was great. it's kinda hard to get gigs here though, mostly because the owners have no reason to switch from hip hop to house or trance. i heard the owner of level b is into house, but i don't know what's going on with that place, it's more like a lounge.

Posted by yankeeBaby on Oct-22-2006 21:20:

hehehe Castaways
