Mixer/FX Routing

Alright everyone so I'm having a little bit of some trouble. I normally don't do this but I think it's a good idea. Normally when I do automations for grooves when I want to fade something in, I automate the volume sliders in the mixer for each instrument that I slowly want to bring in. I've decided a more feasible idea would of course be to just make some group channels instead such as "Perc Groove 1, Perc Groove 2, etc." My question here is is there any way to do this without having to route each instrument to all the groove channels so I'm not making everything that much louder because the sound is being amplified through more channels? Right now I have each of my different percs going to a perc group and that's pretty much it besides the sends when I decide to add the effects. Just throw me some ideas because I'm a little stuck and it's something I want to do in this summery track I'm trying to create.

Sending instruments to a group channel shouldn't amplify the group at all if you leave the group fader at unity gain (aka 0). It gives you a 2nd gain stage, yes, but if left at unity gain there shouldn't be any amplification or reduction of any kind. And if the group signal IS being amplified from being assigned to a group channel, then there is something wrong with your DAW.

I was always under the impression that it amplified the signal from one channel to the next. If I had an instrument outputting from it's channel to 3 other channels then it won't amplify the signal to master channel then?

yeah it's fruity i'm using. FL 6 to be exact. If I take an insert such as 1 and output it to 3 other ones and those 3 each go to the master channel, then it amplifies each one. Then, in the master channel it goes from what is supposed to be -16dB up to -4dB.

In this example, you're taking one instrument and splitting it into 3 separate channels. Then, yes, that will amplify the signal. I thought you were grouping all your drum tracks to a single group channel, in which case the group channel should not sound amplified at all.

You see you have insert 1 routing to insert 3, but you have insert 1 going to the master, and insert 3 going to the master, you practicly have the same sound going to the master, twice, thus doubling its sound.

No amplifying if you just route it.

Sends can amplify though, but for send you should set your effect to all wet anyways.
