[Uplifting]RickyM - View From The Stars (full 320kbps)

Ok so it's a while since I did an original trance track, what with all these Lord of The Rings remixes
Anyway I remember I had an old melody that I used in a collab with Fran, Forgotten Memory.
So I thought I would have a go and see if I could make a track from it, so here it is, quite an energetic one (I hope):

View From The Stars

Feedback welcome :-)

Great atmosphere, the break is awesome! Nice energy, the speak fits in well but I think the background sound that follows the whole track, been a bit repetitive. However, its a great job!

Pretty much what I've got to say about it.

Just put it in a mix I did, was fantastic - beautiful track.

Ah, I remember this melody. I still have the midi on my pc somewhere.

Posted by PutBoy on Jun-21-2006 20:05:

Love the bassline. It's wicked. How did you go about creating it?
Love the guy who screams in the background, that's what it sounds like ;P ie, I love the sample, not the guy...
My main concern is the right-faded bell-sound. I don't really like it somehow. Can't really point it out though.

Like it how the melody kicks works out when the break ends ;P I don't really like the sound though, too... bellish ;P

Not a fan of the chord progression either.

Nice uplifting track though. Good work.

btw. could you review me newest track, please:

awesome bass u got there mate..

percs are excellent, and i like the vocal sample u threw in there.. and the production quality is class.. but i dont like the main melody at all.

Posted by The Drow on Jun-22-2006 14:55:

Nice production.
Everything is good except the melody.
Remake it... Remake the sound too.

Omer.

This track reminds me a bit of Amara - Pulse.
Good work, although the main lead could have been phatter.

Posted by richg101 on Jun-23-2006 12:26:

yo dawg.

nice track. really original in the uplifting market where i have not heared much originality recently.

your melody and synth for it are great real nice and fresh. BUT! i wanna hear a submelody in the same synth at one octave lower and slightly lower volume. just to compliment the main melody and to add a bit more presence. the main mel is lush but as i said to ya i think it is a bit lacking in the lower areas... a lower submelody or even a mirror of your melody will sort this imo.

everything else is A+

keep it up man

richie

alright rickdagg

kick and bass spot on. what was that you brought in at the minute mark a sub bass?

efx are very nice compliment the track and vocal well. good build up to the breakdown. although i would have some more elements in here as it goes on too long before anything else happens. loving the intro in the breakdown and the synth for the melody is nice although i think the melody could be much better. not your usual standards.

nice thumping track. would change the melody though.

good shit though!

Hey buddy,

OK, Not bad, good atmospheres, tranzy.

You already know what I feel about this tune. Really immence power.. I'm very fond of the massive kick and bass you had going in here, and the melody is quite unique as well which is always a good thing.

Good job mang, but maybe do some enhancements

That's one killer tune :P

Thanks for the comments.

The bassline is a v-station sub which is sidechained, and a 3xosc and TB404.
I agree about the lead being too thin, but when I tried to make it a bit fatter it started to get muddy, so I thought best leave it as it is.

Posted by EtherealSL on Jun-26-2006 23:01:

solid, good work ricky

that phased whitenoise sfx is great, bass is solid too, but i wish you changed the note variation interval from a minor 2nd to something higher ... the minor 2nd make it sound very psy.

into breakdown, sounds great, lead is thin, like people have been saying, don't really like the lead at all, imo. wish you kept it tech and bangin instead of melodic. but just a style thing. also 5:45, melody goes offkey for a note, very noticable.

production-wise, it's sex. good work rickson.

Hey... Im really liking this. Unbelievable production, really nice effects throughout the track. It's always the little details which make the difference... and here there are plenty of fine little details. I'm not too fond of the lead sound but it is a matter of personal taste. It's weird but I liked the other parts much more than the part where the real melody and the beat come in...

Great atmosphere, the high frequency sounds work really well... This should definitely be signed, great quality and original!!!

Cheers, Lakeus

Quality Production. Percs are spot-on as far as I can tell.. Melody is too blah to my liking. The track as a whole is somewhat uplifting but, I think with some remaking A LOT of energy could be developed from this track. Also, can't quite pinpoint the one aspect of the synth-work that is making it difficult for me to smile about - I think its just the sounds you used.. they are just a little tinny for my liking.. i dont know if thats what youre going after but it doesnt sit well in the mix. Finally, I will say again, the mixdown is right there, but alot of energy that could have been created I felt was not developed in the track - I would vote a rework.

Keep it up

Spence

Okay reviewing RickyM.

Glad to hear a solid track from you. I still love Bongledesh, and listen to it.

Great kick!

That ambience in the background, the weirdness, sounds so strange, it almost sounds out of phase? It's really odd sounding.

0:58 Hot bassline. Well compressed and sits in your mix very well. Percussions is very tight sounding, but plenty of wet reverb to give this track a "lush" feel.

1:26 Liking this subtle little back lead that comes in. Very "tingy" and happy sounding. In true uplifiting style.

1:55 This second element that comes in almost sounds "alphazone-ish" It's subtle. But coming in more and more.

I would watch your mixing, im getting a bit lost, but the way all the elements are blending, i can STILL pick everything out. So it's good. I dunno. Maybe personal taste.

2:50 yay that lowpass filter is all opened up again on that second back lead that came in at 1:55, now you're closing it up again.

3:15 good crash, liking the break down, great choral elements going on here, good spacy kick.

3:29 Great deep pad! Sounding awesome. I'm putting my hands in the mother fucking air.

3:56 Nice sweep. Here comes the lead. Melodic progression different like it should be. Yes. Snare roll please. Thank you. Here it comes. Drum roll? Yes.

4:37 Bam! Great kick once again, mixes with bassline, bassline sitting well and varied with melodic change. Great sounds! What will you bring to the table in the last half of this track?

Mixing and mastering is really solid.

6:02 Good subtractive mixing, brining all that busyness out and opening up the mix to give us a breather.

6:30 Interesting piano sounding/bell sounding element in the background? I like it. Adds depth.

Well your outro was good enough that you didn't need "a second build" I rather like it that way. Your track should only have one smashing part!

Good job. Glad to hear another top-notch production from you. Putn' all the prog-heads to shame!

Hey Mate,

Finally a review from your partner in crime hey Okay here we go:

Righ from the start this track seems to be developping into an immense one. Brilliant kick, superb bass (although it growls a bit too much here and there, could be compressed better), loads of energy.

However quickly into the build up I become bored. There is no diversion, just the same going on for too long. No changes in percs, no real attention grabbers.

You do end the build up superbly. Breakdown itself is nice, a bit thin though. We've had discussion about it before, your choice of sounds is not always the best. In this track again that point proves itself with your leadsound choice. This really is a weird choice for a lead. You had an immense sound going on during build up but with this lead the build up actually sounded better. I was hoping for a big leadsound. Even though you are not a fan of saws, this type of track was begging for a big saw lead.

Bass also distracts from the rest of the sounds when the leadsection plays, it growls and dominates too much of the track.

And yes indeed when you start changing the leadmelodie at the end of the leadsection you do go offkey I think twice

At the end of the day this track is quite mediocre. The ideas are there, the details (voice sample, fx in the background) make the track superb productionwise. But the monotonousy and the choice of sounds have led to a track which disappoints after the baging beginning.

I have heard better from you Rick. Especially if you finish that track you send me a sample of a while ago (the successor to Funkwaves perhaps?). That was pure magic.

OK thanks for the feedback...

To me that part of the melody doesn't sound off key at all...weird. Perhaps the lead could have been better, but I'm quite bored of saw leads.
As for the track being too repetitive in the buildup, surely trance is based on repetition, take it away and it's more like pop music.

THanks DJ Freaq, I'll review your track soon mate

Even trance can be too repetitive

hey Mr. McAlister!

sorry for the late review, but i was quite busy recently with exams, you know!

anyway, production quality is great, i really like all the atmospheric elements you brought into the track, the pads are also very nice, percussion is spot on also. Like other people already mentioned, the lead should be changed, though, to a more distinct sound in my opinion, you need to brought a massive lead sound to the track, im sure you know what i mean.

otherwise, the track sounds immense, the only thing you should take some more attention is the lead!

keep them coming Ricky, look forward to hear new own tracks from you!

cheers,
Peter
