KarateKid What is your opinion of the United States (USA)?

Both politically and socially, what is your opinion of the United States? This question is for everyone, from every country.

Posted by tiesto14 on Mar-02-2002 05:12:

Politically i think we are on the right track...
Socially...i think SOMETIMES we tend to fall victom to materialism and "The I Want" syndrome...but its ok

I LOVE AMERICA...but every country, including "us", needs some work....none our perfect

Idea

well it's ok... in my opinion.. there are some ppl out there that are just odd.. and i'm not blaming the country for that.. but hard.. too .. if they mostly are from the US...
but not all...
beacuse i doo have friends from the US and family.. so i'm not saying society is all that bad..

politacly.. be a better posture..

The US are often accused of being a policeman of the world and imperialism.

yes we are....cus if we dont we will have many nations trying many STUPID things to all nations ...and since we are the SUPER power we have the upper hand to enforce

I hate terrorists and I know what you mean. But the point is that the US are expanding their culture and that's the thing that annoyes lots of people. The McDonaldisation of the society, culture - you know what I mean (I don't know the proper English term). ALso there are stereotipes of Americans being egoistic and mind-closed people, who thinks the only good culture is their own and never learn foreign languages.

That's not exactly my opinion, you know, but I'm posting what some people think about Americans. You're from the US so you know them better than me so give some feedback about these opinions.

Peace

I fully agree with you in this.

Only accused?? They have bases in Cuba, Colombia, Peru soon, UK, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Greece?, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Japan, SKorea, Taiwan, Filipinas?, and the list goes on... they ARE an empire.. lets admit that.. The bad thing is that they sometimes try to interfere with everybody (acting on its own interest)causing wars and bad sht..

The good part is that besides all the fckd up part of the society (like children with guns at school killing each other), the world has many good things thanks to america. But that should be used as an excuse for all the mess they cause.

Posted by litlitaly on Mar-09-2002 06:17:

I agree with zzleeper that the US has given us a lot of good things but some things they do annoy me.

The Kyoto treaty is a good case. Every country in the entire world agrees on reductions (this must have been almost impossible) in emmisions of harmfull substances... except the US who are too worried about their economy in the short term to risk tipping the balance and sending in to a slight recession.

Another thing is a tendancy to buy US without question. The music industry is a good case here. In England and I suspect much of Europe, US music is dominant, yet the US as a whole seems reluctant to accept our music.

One last thing. HOW COULD YOU MAKE US ENDURE GEORGE 'DUBYA' BUSH FOR FOUR YEARS????

as far as the music goes didnt we welcome the Beatles with open arms and MADE them bigger then they where...also the Rolling Stones, U2, Bush, Garbage, and soooo many other groups...that statement u amde is not very true.

and George Bush is a GREAT president...why do you not like him?

Posted by flystyler on Mar-09-2002 12:31:

Well USA are making things worse for them. I want to see the world as a peacful place in my life time, and if this can be done great, and USA epect everyone to help, which is fair enough. But then when it comes to anything that will cost their country it is a different matter. Like the pollution laws that they would not agree to, and lets face it, they no nobody can challenge them. At the moment they make their own rules. And now with this huge import price there will be even more hatred built up for USA. I think it is great how the country has pulled together. But to be honest President bush is going the wrong way.

But all i want to see in my life time is World Peace, and if all the countries can pull together to do that then great. But at the moment USA is taking the piss, and nobody can do anything to stop them. But USA will not be the only super power for long. And when it happens we all should b very afraid. Chemical warfarr is become a real threat once again, and if USA attack the latest terrorist countries they may not get such an easy battle. Just my opinion

Sorry. I am making huge generalisations because the question is very open but generally it is very difficult for non-US artists to make an impact on the US market but very easy for US artists to make an impact on the international market. BUT as you have pointed out this is not always the case.

Are you being sarcastic? This man is a puppet. It's like giving a child a Ferrari! When he came to power he had absolutely no idea about world hierarchy. I have to question the validity of any President that uses the catchphrase 'The other bloke claims to have invented the internet. Well how come all the names start with dubya, dubya, dubya.' Also he can't speak without an autocue. Personally I question the intelligence of this man.

We're good in that we have a strong national identity. Meaning we are firm with our beliefs and actions. We're never ambiguous.
However, this is a double-edged sword because this often leads to jingoism and unilateralism.

Posted by drizzt81 on Mar-28-2002 06:11:

sorry, but after living in the US for about 5 years now, i really do not like it anymore. Yes, it may be partially due to WHERE I live (Worcester, MA, the sh1th0le of the world), but it is also for some political reasons.

I got to say that Bush seems to have little clue wtf he is doing! He seems to try everything possible to go head-on with about every other nation in the world, partially ruining some great opportunities.

well.. there are many -more or less small things- that i dislike about the US and I am sure that I will get the heck out of here, once I am done with college.

Which is something i like about the USA. They are relatively cutting edge when it comes to education and that is great.

I would like to apologize to everyone, who loves the USA for my negative view of it, but someone asked for my oppinion and you got it
