Why do so many people seem to have such a hard time spelling the word "definitely"?

Most common mistake I think is definately, but I've seen things like defenately or even defantly...

Pay attention to it and you'll be having a good laugh from time to time

I think I've read once, that one of the most likely reasons is that people don't pronounce it properly anymore...

You have to break the word down to understand it, all you people who spell bad.

'Finite' is the base.

Tack on the suffix and prefix and there you have it.

i used to spell it 'definately' too. one day on TA i tried scolding some TiT in the MD about his poor grammar and spelling and i included 'definately'

then someone burned me by correcting the mispelling i made and said something like 'you shouldnt call out bad spelling to a foreigner when you cant even spell correctly in your own language.'

or something like that. pwnd to say the least
