Smiley DJ SASHA's last residency night @ Avalon~~~ REVIEW!!!!

To all you dark side crew peeps who didn't make it... you missed out on some sick music! Sux to be you!!!

Ok, actually, it sux to be ME right now!

Not that anyone cares, but i'm suffering here! I just got to the office with NO sleep at all. I'm stuck here till 1 pm. I left Avalon at 6am, went home, took a looooong hot shower (euuuwww i was so sweaty and had other freaks sweat & grease all over me), changed, went to Starbucks and got a double shot of Espresso, and it's making me sick. I can barely type right now. 5 hours to go here!! How did I used to party hard like this back in the days, and still make it to work every weekend? I'm getting old!

Anyway, back to the topic of Sasha....

GODDAM.... he was great! Thank god his set was recorded! So many fresh new tracks... I think I only recognized a couple songs he played. I really hope the 2nd half of his set was recorded too cuz I liked it better than the 1st half. Rene what was that one song i liked, with the female vocals? "pleasure seekers" or something like that. I have to DL it! Can't wait to DL the whole set. Whoever DL's it first, let me know ASAP!!!

James Lavelle played some cool banging tunes, but I recognized like 90% of his stuff. His mixing was ok at first, then he started to lose concentration or something, cuz he kept screwing up.

What a night. Luckily I didn't dance alot, or else I would be hurting even more right now. I hope someone is awake right now to humor me!!!

Poor Julia ... (I left around 4 cus I wanted a freaking hotdog) and I just woke up good seeing you last night girl .. it had been a while.

I was surprised how empty the place was till 11ish. Figured it would've been a sold out event!!

Okay before we get to Sasha, let discuss the no talent warm-up dj that spins from that top-right balcony. It was funny how at one point people started exchanging "WTF" looks when he dropped a Sean Paul track Come on ...

Overall, it was great. Quite a few fantastic fresh tracks. I only recognized one tune but can't remember what it was .. if I had to guess, I'd say Tomie Nevada - New Settlers.

The set had a slow start but a smooth build up. At one point he played this massive tune and right when it was supposed to explode, the CDJ jammed no music for about 5 sec, and when it came back, it was the last 1 min of the track which was just beats (unfortunately the best part was skipped Sasha didn't look too happy hehe) That's one tune I'd really like someone to id if possible.

Will I buy the CD? I don't think it's worth $35. I wouldn't mind spending $18 bucks on it but no more. But it's a definite download if you can get your hands on it

I couldn't get too much into James Lavelle's set .. I'm not a big fan of rock-flavored trance tunes especially when it's hard rock. That said, I was enjoying the atmosphere too much till about 4 when I couldn't walk straight anymore

Easily the worst Fundacion night of this year, despite pretty good sets by Sasha.

The CD is nice, I like that they didnt edit out the fuckup...although I'm still skeptical about how much was done live and how much wasnt. Was cool to hear Sasha play 3 tracks off CD when Ableton fucked up...and that those got on the 2CD.

James Lavelle has absolute shit track selecting skills, and his set, was as predicted...the suck.

Predictable. Shit Mixing. Lame tracks.

Sasha was good, but definatley not at his best. He played alot better AFTER the CD had been recorded (of course).

I just hope he stops at ICE again, because I need to see him alone.

i dont know why sasha has lavelle spin with him.

just like he ruined the night when he spun in DC he sucks it up everywhere else. worst fucking DJ ever

Lindstrom - I Feel Space (M.A.N.D.Y. Remix)
Paul Kalkbrenner - Gebrunn Gebrunn (last track)

Lavelle

Bobby Peru - Erotic Discourse
Ame - Rej
Andre Kraml - Safari (James Holden Remix)

i know so many peeps that do actual live PA's with live and very few had mention about any crashes with live. sasha needs to just move on.

This was the first and only time I've ever seen it crash on him out of 5 times.

I was really hoping he'd continue the night on CDJs, already the first 2 tracks he dropped using CDs were sick, and the mixing of course good.

Sucks to hear Lavelle ruined it so badly, though to be honest he did the same in Denver. Sasha was playing great, really banging and melodic to open the night, and James comes on and literally brings the track to a stop...no matter where Sasha would take it from there on he would kill it everytime.

His only redeeming quality was playing Tim Deluxe - Reflections towards the end; it had no flow whatsoever, but was nice to finally hear live.

Sasha played a pretty good set, I enjoyed it. I mustve missed his fuckup when I went to the patio, I heard the djs playing Blood then 321 so I just had to stop in there and dance to that. The opening with Night Falls was pretty killer and the 2nd to last track (ID?!) and Gebrunn Gebrunn was really nice.

I left after Sasha finished the cd and am really glad I did. I could tell from the first 2 minutes of Lavelles set that I didnt want to be there. Plus its a long ass drive for me.

It was good seeing everyone, I havent been down there in so long.
So who stuck around to buy the cd? Can someone post the tl?

Posted by Cool1g on Jun-25-2006 21:46:

i was only there from around 215-4am...i liked what i heard from Sasha before James took over.

i remember commenting that James must have taken some DJ lessons as at first he was mixing fine...but of course all good things come to an end. i'd say out of 6 mixes, 1 he blew and 2 were fade out-fade ins...but i liked the track selection at least. some nice minimal stuff that sounds great of a good system like Avalon's.

AOS played some fun stuff in the patio as well.

can't wait for Darren Emerson in 2 week

Posted by Viceroy on Jun-25-2006 21:46:

yea, it was a great night. thanks to lawrence at the door for hooking up the reduced list, you are a rockstar.

sasha was ripping it up as soon as I got in there, until I left at 3 am. I would have stayed later, but I was parked in a tow-away zone that started at 3, so that's when I booked. I didn't notice to much track manipulation that sasha started doing a ton of when he started with the maven. the last couple times I've seen him he hasn't done much at all. great set though, glad I went.

can anyone link up the double cd pretty please?

peace,
steve

Gotta agree with Clovis. By far the worst Fundacion night i've been to. Sasha was laying it down pretty good for the cd, but I couldn't hang for the whole night. I left before Lavelle got on to ruin it. But on the plus side, I have Tommie Nevada - Meeting at the Cornfields stuck in my head

Will have to pick up the cd to hear the hour or so that i missed.

edit
Oh well! Get to see him on the Space terrace in Ibiza in about a month anyway
