Markus Schulz@Spirit--what a waste

Markus used to be my fav dj for the past 3 years or so with his incredible coldharbor productions and gdj. I was really glad when he finally made his first nyc appearance & haven't missed a show of his since when he played here. but now--it's enough

before he played last friday nite, I posted about how he always plays that silly yilmaz altanhan - eighties (ozgur can rmx) song everytime he plays here--what is that, like dedicated to the nyc crowd or something? sure enough, that was the 2nd track he plays after his opening trk! it's like oakey who's been playing solar stone-7 cities for centuries.

markus is an insult to the nyc crowd. anyone who listens to his live sets in other cities & his global dj broadcast will instantly recognize the difference of style in his sets when he plays nyc. so may good new tracks to play, trax he plays on his radio show etc. and he plays nothing new, nothing that resembles the usual markus style. what makes him stand out from armin etc is his progressive style, but the way he plays now doesn't make unique in anyway from such dj's.
I have said before & I will say again--markus hand-picks tunes that he feels will appeal to the 'nyc' crowd. this is obvious to somebody who has been listening to the man's sets for years & can recognize when he changes that style. he really needs to play the kind of music that made him popular to people in the 1st place & stop trying to be something else. be real, like perry oneil! perry's not the most popular dj but he gives you the kind of set you would expect from perry oneil when he plays here, no stereotypical mtv nyc set. I've heard new trax by hammer & funabashi, elevation etc in recent sets of people--why couldn't markus have played those?
I seriously doubt if I would waste my time watching markus again--even for free. not worth the time & effort, the man plays the same style of junk everytime he comes & he hasn't been changing.

how come he is a moron? not that i am agreeing with him because i cant because i wasnt able to go to the show last week, but it just seems like he is stating his opinion. did he say something in another thread that made him sound dumb?

just curious.

Posted by trancintaiwan on Jun-26-2006 01:28:

anyways, my opinion on this subject. i don't really think you can except a dj to not play certain songs. i mean, as a dj, thats what you're allowed to do.

The way on how he desribes markus's style, if he has been a fan of markus, then he would know, he has changed up his style here and there, and I dont think he hand picks tracks just for "the new york crowd". Markus chooses to play what he wants when he wants or where he is spinning, I never seen him spin in new york before so I dont know how the vibe is up there like the way we have down here, I have some of his sets from spirits and none of them sound like they disappoint, I have been listening to him for yrs now and I never heard a set from him that has sucked, never on gdjb or any other or seeing him spin live, nothing wrong with your opinion I guess he just lost all love and hope from markus

oooh kinkay!

Posted by DeRangedMind on Jun-26-2006 01:57:

I never liked Markus Schulz because his has some the most played out garbage and also not really into that whole progrssive trance style. He has gotten back since 2003/2004.

But he does have some remixes I personally like but after reading this what acetate212 said about Markus playing different tunes and playing current crowd favorites in NYC mabie in D.C. he won't be playing alot of that boring stuff from GDJB.

Mabie I can request some faovrites and please nooooooooooo and I mean hell noooo I do not won't to hear Satelite as on encore he forever will lose me a half and half fan toocool:

I would like to point out something, When you hear music on his radio show, Its music we can listen to, When he plays at a club, People want to dance, Therefore he has to play tunes that people can dance to, Thats why DJs play differently at the clubs then they do on there radio shows.

i somewhat agree with TigerClaw, definitely different environments calling for different styles. oh the other hand i also agree markus could have played some differnt tracks, remixed some tracks to make them more club like. remixing is key, i mean the traffic remix was such a hit because it had a twist. anyhow that's my two cents
