International Freedom Festival
I just thought I'd share with you one of my favorite traditions back here in Windsor. I grew up going to The International Freedom Festival down by the water every year. There were TONS and TONS of carnival rides, cotton candy, concerts...all kinds of stuff. It was always fun to go down there, even as I got older...just as something different to do.
The thing that made it the most fun was our annual fireworks extravaganza on the last Wednesday in June. It is one of the biggest fireworks shows in North America. 45 minutes of bang, bang, bang. People camp out there for days before the event. Last year was the only year I've ever missed it. (damn Chrysler!)
Just a 'lil tid bit of info: It takes 5 days for dozens of specialists to load 3 barges with 250,000 lbs. of fiberglass mortars, 100 miles of wire, 500 tons of sand and more than 10,000 fireworks shells for the annual fireworks display.
After you guys have seen these fireworks...NOTHING compares. You should all try to check them out sometime.
Visit the website here for a 'lil history:

I miss the Benson&Hedges fireworks festivals, and the different countries competing for the best blasts. Too bad the smoking laws killed that (I hope I didn't hijack the thread for saying that).
Being from Windsor I have to agree with Lisa - this was indeed somthing not to be missed. I remember going to the fireworks with my dad when I was really young - then growing up and going with friends. The show is absolutely amazing - over 1 million people gather on the Windsor/Detroit waterfront to see it! It's too bad Toronto doesn't have anything like this...

Biggest fireworks display in North America, and by far the best I've ever seen.
One of the few times Downtown Windsor is really "the place to be", which is the cities motto.
the best year was when i had a penthouse apartment at park place overlooking the river. We had a crazy party on fireworks day and probably the best view in the city!
Aaaaah university memories!
FIREWORKS ARE TONIGHT!
Meh Cambridge's will be better, I'll have my 15 minutes of glory.

SO fireworks were last night and it was GREAT!
they have done some MAJOR renovations to our riverfront here in windsor and let me tell you it made things so much better then ANY year i have ever watched the works...
there was much more room for the thousands.. (reaching up to like a million sometimes) of ppl that come to watch and it made the expirience so great..
me and Chadly84 got to the festival at around 9;45 when we made our way to the first cotton candy stand we could find and bought a giant bag each...we walked quite a ways until we found a great giant lawn to stop and watch the firworks.. there was TONS of kids running around acting like total spazz's which made us laugh hysterically and talk about all the dumb shit we did fireworks night when we were young... after the fireworks we walked around to check out all the great new things they've built around thr river front.. including a quaint little bridge extended over the river we stood on the bridge and viewed how amazing the skyline looked with the fair going on and eventually made our way back home around 11:30
it was a FANTASTIC night...the firworks desplay was awesome.. and also i believe it lasted longer then the past few years... i alreay am excited for next years!
