south beach separates the streets from my miami - the M-i-YAYO

Posted by stren on Jun-27-2006 14:52:

this is not miami

Posted by Slylee on Jun-27-2006 14:59:

hmm, 700 a month for a studio?

you're not going to have a car right? or are you?

honestly, if you are going to work in downtown and want to try and live in the downtown area and take the metro rail or cabs, then it's going to be more expensive for a studio in that area. studios in a decent building in brickell or downtown are at least 900. you're better off trying to find a roommate situation where the rent is like 1400 a month for a 2 bedroom and 700 would be your half. the place would be sweeter.

i'll start browsing for you though. for 700 a month for a studio or 1 bedroom, ur gonna have to go west..and west miami isn't that great and the traffic sucks and no one speaks english. or u could do north miami...but that's kind of expensive too.

ill be working right around here:

8323 NW 12th Street Suite 200, Miami, FL 33126

so the closer the better. Ill be bringing my motorcycle down but Id rather either walk or take metro. Get the feeling thats not going to be an option, however.

As it is a bike I am worried about theft so ...

i might be willing to pay up to 900 a month but needs to be pretty damn sweet if im gonna do that.

and i cant do the room mate thing. This job is too important to have to worry about other factors hehe.

thanks for the help, its appreciated

to be honest dude, you won't find anything sweet close to Southbeach or Downtown for 900 a month. You'll be better off finding a roomate. You could probbly pay 900 a month for a place in like Miami lakes or Kendall, but it's pretty far from everything.
My GF was recently looking for a place, she got one in Biscayne for 1800, and she dosen't pay utilities, also the place is 1700sqft.

I'll ask her if she saw anything cheaper and get back to u.

dude roomates are cool. I found mine on craigslist when I moved to new york and i'm so glad i did. you're still young, you shouldn't have to worry about not getting enough rest or peace because of roomates - if that's your concern. And you have way more fun this way.

But hey if your mission is to focus solely on work and put aside social activities, then live alone sure.

oh btw, roomates are cheaper too

Posted by Orbax on Jun-27-2006 15:21:

Ill be working 14 hour days and a lot of that through the night at home for a while here. I will need a secure environment for what Ill be doing and id rather burn a few more dollars than miss a day of work or a deadline hehe.

hows the area near Dadeland Mall? A few miles east on Kendall Dr?

Posted by StanVoid on Jun-27-2006 15:24:

wth kind of programming job is 14 hours a day, that's more like an investment banker.

Posted by Orbax on Jun-27-2006 15:25:

its a pretty complicated system and Im going to need to put in unpaid hours to get a hold of the situation. Which is fine because if I nail this contract its gonna be well worth it.

Posted by Orbax on Jun-27-2006 15:29:

and how is pinecrest

Posted by Slylee on Jun-27-2006 15:36:

Thats not downtown.. You will be working like 2 blocks away from where I work.. As far as rent goes you will be finding places for like maybe 800 - 1000 for one room. Personally 700 will be hard to find. Pinecrest may be alittle to far as far as traffic goes if you working in that area and downtown I think may be worst you have to look by Flager or Fontainebleau BLVD.

The pinecrest option shouldn't be dismissed out of hand. The metro rail ends right smack in pinecrest (well, across the highway technically) and goes right downtown. My dad walks and takes the rail to work every day, never drives. Plus the area is totally safe for your bike; crime is virtually nonexistant.
