Software for arranging a mix (not mixing live).
Hello everyone! I'm thinking about starting a trance/progressive show on my college's radio station. I do not know how to mix live on the decks and don't have time or money for it right now (perhaps in the future I'll give it a try). So, is there a program with which you can arrange tracks and render them into a mix that sounds as quality as an actual turntable mix?
i think you're thinking of a program with something like an auto feature, i think.
basically something that will mix tracks together for you?
correct me if im wrong, but ive only taken a glimpse at Traktor DJ Studio, or whatever its called, a few times, doesnt it have a feature that will do it for you? can any one confirm this?

to be honest thats the first time ive heard that, cause like i said, ive only taken a glimpse at traktor a few times, i didnt think it would be able to beat match auto, i figured at most it would just fade out one track completely and then fade in the next one after the previous is copletely, or at least nearly, out, something cheap like that.

first, you can beatmatch perfectly in traktor as i have made some mixes with it a while back...it a bit to figure out but once you've got it then you are golden. Second, acid pro is a perfect solution for your inquiry. I use acid 4.0 and all you do is drop in the track and beatmap it. Once you've beatmapped it then you can position it to wherever you want and then add songs accordingly. This of course takes more time to master than say using traktor but once you learn to use it then you will never hear a trainwreck...

. Now the suggestion of Acid Pro sounds pretty good. Let me ask one question though: does acid pro have a BPM counter so that I can match the BPM's of tracks?
it runs a beatmapper wizard whenever you insert a track..from there you are given the bpm's
Ok, well I'll check out the demo of Acid Pro some time this week.
I'm wondering why no-one mentioned Mixmeister yet?
that can sometimes do quality mixes...and even a total newbie can do a nice mix with it
yeah i have heard really good mixes with mixmeister but since i have never used it, i can't really say anything about its ease of use
It is very easy to do basic mixes like that in Ableton.
Ableton Live! Hands down. It lets you do arrangements and live mixes.
Well, I've messed around in Acid Pro for about 30 minutes now and I can say that this is what I've been looking for. Although I still have not understood how to make fadeouts/fadeins along with several other things, it is just the matter of time now
Thanks spdandpwr and others who also suggested other software.
atomix has an auto-beatmatching feature that is very good and hardly ever gets it wrong. You can even download it for free from www.atomixmp3.com or off download.com, compared to paying around $150 for ableton or traktor
Sorry to jump in, but how do you arrange tracks(non-live) to make a mix in Ableton?
Look at VirtualDJ from Atomix.
You can automix all tracks in a playlist beatmatched perfectly( not too bad to listen)
and you can customize the cue point for a track to begin the mix. You can set the fade lenght between tracks.
AND you can do the same with video clip !
it will work with a non multi-channel audio card
of course you can mix by your self!! it's a DJ software

| Originally posted by lcid yeah i'd recommend MixMeister too. it automatically beatmatches songs for you (mostly - sometimes you have to play around a bit to get it perfect with certain songs), so as long as you have a basic understanding of phrasing, compatible keys, and EQing, you can make some pretty sick mixes with it. i've messed around with Traktor and Ableton, but MixMeister was by far the easiest to figure out. |
Mixmeister was the first word that came into my mind after reading the first message.
