Euro 2008

Ok I know the World Cup hasn't even finished yet, and the tournament is two years away, but hey, some of you (most of you) have been knocked out of the World Cup so I thought I'd start this thread to cheer you all up! (There's probaly already been a thread but I searched and couldn't find it!!)

Group A
Portugal
Poland
Serbia & Mont
Belgium
Finland
Armenia
Azerbaijan
Kazakhstan

Group B
France
Italy
Ukraine
SCOTLAND
Lithuania
Georgia
Faroe Islands

Group C (Otherwise known as 'not quite the Group of Death')
Greece
Turkey
Norway
Bosnia
Hungary
Moldova
Malta

Group D
Czech Republic
Germany
Slovakia
REP OF IRELAND
WALES
Cyprus
San Marino

Group E (Easy! Easy! Easy!)
ENGLAND
Croatia
Russia
Israel
Estonia
Macedonia
Andorra

Group F
Sweden
Spain
Denmark
Latvia
Iceland
NORTHERN IRELAND
Liechtenstein

Group G (UEFA have changed the rules to this group slightly so that only Holland can qualify then the 14th place given to the best runner up from the other 6 groups, as the rest of this group consist of very poor teams and UEFA realise what a bad job they did picking this group)
Holland
Romania
Bulgaria
Slovenia
Albania
Belarus
Luxembourg

Well, can any of the Celtic countries qualify for this one?!

Scotland and Northern Ireland not a chance!

But Group D might not look so bad for the Welsh and Irish who might fancy themselves against the Czechs (who have a tasty looking derby match against their neighbours Slovakia)

Is it the top 2 striahgt through this time? or 2nd place goes into a draw?

I think we definitly have a chance of making it. After the WC nedved will probaly retire. I dont rate them much anyway. I dont think germany are all that either. I am worried about our away form though. We did well in the WCQ group away, only bad result was irsael. We should of beat france in paris.

We lack a decent central midfield though. And outside our first 11 are players arent great. If we can keep richard dunne, robbie keane, duffer and given fit they we have a chance.

First time i have actually checked this group. Its not as easy as i originally though.

Croatia are a very solid team. They looked useful during the WC. Russia will have guss hidink as their manager after the WC aswell. Couldnt ask for a better manager.

Yous should make 1st, but the battle for 2nd will definitly be interesting. Even israel arent that bad.

It's the top two out of each group (so that's 14 + Austria and Switzerland) so looks like no play offs or anything like that - then it'll be 4 groups of 4.

I think Ireland have a genuine chance of qualifying but then Germany and Czech Rep are gonna be favourites and two very good teams but Ireland will have two new Premiership players in Alan Quinn and Paddy Kenny so will have a good chance.

Yea Croatia are good but altho Russia have the odd decent player here and there they don't have the depth of quality that countries like England have.

I only saw these groups today (tho they must have been out for a few months at least cos they kick off in the middle of August!) and unwittingly went out last monday and bought a Croatia shirt so might have to keep it covered up!!!

Dont forget Israel, they are getting better.the only reason they dont make it to the WC is because they play in europe and not with Iran,Saudi Arabia etc.

which is something ive always about but I think it has more politics to do with it...they came close in WC qualifiers this year

Yes this only because of politics. and the relationship between israel and the 22 Arab countries

Agreed. I am actually rather confident aobut this group. We seem to do alot better when we are the outside of the group. qualifying group for 2002 had portugal and the dtuch. For this world cup we had france and swiss. Alot of expectation on us to make it out of that group, but we bottled it. Having a clown manager didnt help either.

I have heard some very good things about Alan Quinn. Look forward to seeing him alot more. First game on sky sports is sheff united vs liverpool, should be a good one! Barring injury paddy kenny will never take Givens Place.

We also have reading kevin doyle and shane long making the jump. Thing there could be anyother irish lad in midfield aswell.

England will probobly be ok..... never know though.

Ireland havent got a hope in hell with Czech & Germany.

Facing the world champions, the world runner-ups and a team that reached the quarter-finals of world cup.. my advice for Scotland is to give up.

Our group is quite hard and I think there's good chances that we will miss this competition. I know Serbia and Poland were the laughing stock of the world cup, and Belgium has completely sucked for the last couple of years, yet these are all teams that would always be favourites to qualify in any group.

Posted by Michael19 on Jul-06-2006 18:13:

Serbia are useful. Poland are shit though. They were muck in the Qualifying stages even.

Posted by RapidFire on Jul-06-2006 23:20:

get your shit together serbia!

Posted by zoric on Sep-02-2006 09:40:

The road to Euro 2008 starts today for the most teams!

Go Serbia!
