Question no more drunk dialing?

quote:
June 27, 2006 -- They were originally designed to simply make phone calls without tying callers to one location. But today's cell phones can do so much more, from snapping digital photos to sending text messages to playing video.

You can add one more feature to the list: a sobriety test.

That's right, cell phones with built-in Breathalyzers are set to hit the U.S. market. So after a night of too much to drink, you can pull out the device to see if you're fit to get behind the wheel.

South Korean manufacturer LG will introduce the LP4100 this year. The company placed several models on the market in that country last year and already has sold more than 200,000 units.

The phones were previewed at the annual Consumer Electronics Show CES in Las Vegas earlier this year.

Here's how it works: Users blow into a small spot on the phone, and if they've had too much to drink the phone issues a warning and shows a weaving car hitting traffic cones.

"So they test it and it says don't drive so they leave their car or call the taxi," explained Sung Mee Cho of Seju Engineering Inc.

The company also sells plug-in Breathalyzer adapters for some phones. None of the models tell you exactly how much you may be over or under the legal limit, but it can keep you from making other alcohol-related mistakes.

The LP4100 also allows users to set up the phone so on certain nights and after a certain time they do not call certain people in their phone book. Think ex-boyfriend or ex-girlfriend.

If you have a blood alcohol level over .08, the phone will not let you dial that person. So it not only promotes sobriety, but chastity and probably your dignity, as well.

Drunk dialing is great, why ruin the fun?

What's to stop some idiot from blowing a 'clear to drive', (which the phone would then document), drinking some more, driving, having an accident and then saying 'Oh, not my fault, my handy LG phone said I was ok to drive.' I'LL SUE YOU LG!!! because it's documented in his phone that he blew legal and there's no way to prove that he had addtl drinks.

Or am I just being a dick?

wouldnt surprise me to hear about that happening. or someone telling the cop they dont need to take a breathalyzer test because their phone said they were OK to drive before they left.

Would not work in the States, in South Korea I think it'd be used as merely a precautionary measure without any sort of legal ramification.

seriously screw that, i love drunk dialing!!

i have a noteriety for calling everyone on my phone list at 4 AM to sing songs on their answering machines. infact this year on my bday i called my parents at 5 am to sing a song about how hammered i was. my dad called me back 10 mins later to ask if i was in the hospital or in jail, then he said if i wasnt, next time wait till 10 am to tell him how bombed i was.

i had to knock off my drunk dialing because apparantly i get very hostile. lol

i guess i drunk dialed bobby one night and ripped him a new asshole for like 15 minutes and i did that to my other friend phillip cuz he hadn't called me in a really long time, and he said i sounded all normal in the beginning of the phone convo like, "so...what's up" and he was like, "not much, u?" and i was like, "oh nothing, i'm just calling u to inform you that you are getting deleted out of my contacts because you never fucknig call me ANY MORE AND EVERY FUCKING TIME I CALL YOU BLA BLA BLA BLA BLA"

and he was like,

i didnt even remember i did that until he called me the next day to make sure i was kidding. lol

i quit drinking for a while...i was getting way too hammered when i'd go out.

hahah that's weird. my parents are seriously the last people on earth i would drunk dial.

bas & clovis give me the best drunk/cracked out dials.

actually the most recent one was bas singing along like some black diva with loud music in the background. all i could hear him sing was, "time and time again...tiiiime and time again" it was like he thought he was a black diva...and then it was like he remembered he was calling me like, "oh yea, jamie's on the phone!" then he snaps back to the phone and is like, "OMG! I LOVE YOU JAMIE COX!" and then i think he passed the phone to clovis who was like, "OMG HI TO YOU"
