Idea Studio Design Help

Hi everyone, I hope you can help me...I'm after some ideas and photos of a studio set up for a new room in my house. I know there's a 'bedroom DJ's post your pics' thread on this forum but seriously, ill be knackered if I look through 400+ pages!! lol

What I'm mainly after is the decks/mixer etc to be integrated into the desk and not just sitting on it. And another desk for dual screen production PC.

If anyone knows of any high quality ideas such as Robert Miles studio (below) etc I'd love to hear from you!

Many thanks in advance for your help.

Aled

i don't mean this in an offensive way, but come up with your own ideas. you have a general idea of what you want...so just incorporate all of them together. if you're going to customize something, you should do exactly that...customize to your needs. i'm sure you're creative...you know what space you have to use...you just need to lay it out...

i mean just look at the robert miles studio you posted. the desk setup isn't anything special. the design of the rest of the room is what makes it awesome.

so then what are you really looking for? just regular interior design ideas?

ther's plenty of threads around this forum and the prod forum about building your own studio and constructing furniture...btw i like the pic...looks like its not exactly too effiecint but definatlye a pretty room to work in!

go into your profile settings, and theres a way to change how many posts there are per age, i think the max is either 40 or 50, something like that, right now ur on "forum default". i eventually browsed that entire thread that way, its about 130 pages now, not too bad. plus i have a design ready for my booth from it, that one looks damn nice though. would be killer on my back at 6'4" though.

Why was that pic taken with a fisheye lens?

It can see around corners!

Ok thats enough acid for me...

no problem buddy, i browsed the topic pretty fast that way, send me a pm with pics of aa design, id like to see it, im actualy refining my design w/ pen and paper right now. i think i might try to put it together in some 3D program.

By the way, another way to make the bedroom setup thread a little easier to digest is to go to your profile options, and set it so more posts appear on a single page. For example i have mine on the max setting, haven't a clue what that is, but i 'only' have a 134 pages to go through..

It's well worth it as there are a good few set ups in there which could give you ideas. Which you can then adapt. It's by far the best way to go about it.

Change the settings and start hunting! We're all basically on broadband (sweeping statement don't take literally lol) so you have no excuses!

*Nevermind the above, i should read the whole thread instead of trying to advise people on things that have already been advised lol! Sorry bout that..

Either way i remember there being a slate table that had some vestax decks, plus a vestax pcv275 mixer built into it. That's one that sticks out in my head anyway.

Quite a few people have gone with the flush look actually. Check it out

Give this a go Mikey - http://sketchup.google.com/products.html

Hopefully it'll do the job for you if you're only looking for a freebie, easy 3D modelling software.

I'm gonna give it a go tonight.

It kinda depends how many chicken breats sandwiches for 99 cents at wendy's you want to spend. (I mean cash)

Argosy is a company that makes tables and such for console mixers and personal workstations etc. something like that anyways.

kinda cool stuff!! check it out.

P.S. This might help you decide what kind of style/atmosphere you want in your studio. so you could kinda base things around that table or stuff like that. i don't know. you might...

Right then, step 1 is complete. Please excuse the awful use of the CAD application but I've never used one before! LOL!

I thought I'd post it in case there are other people like me looking for some ideas on how to create their perfect music room/studio.

If you have any comments (apart from on the pic!!) like anything thats missing then please post them here. (Personally, my favourite bit is the fridge!)

Cheers!

What if in future you want to change mixer and it doesn't fit in the desk's slot

Posted by Aled Mann on Jul-06-2006 14:49:

You're fucked.

not necessarily, have the table top in sections, one section devoted to each turntable, and then one for the mixer, sure you'll have Gaps in between each section thats unavoidable, but when you want to change mixers, of a different size, just replace that one part of the table top, same thing for the turntables, what you could even do, is have the three sections of the table top on hinges...so the table top swings up, like the hood of a car.

sweet work Aled, i just wouldnt like it against a wall like that, but its up to you dude, Sweet damn setup

or just make it 19" and throw some rack rails on it. most high end mixers are 19" or have rack ears as an option. or if you are going through all the trouble of building this contraption, im sure fabricating some custom rack ears wouldnt kill ya.

easy solution...put wooden spacers in.

seen setups with em, and it doesnt look good, this is a damn sweet setup, wooden spacers would look sloppy and out of place.

Um, you don't really want to mix up against a wall, do you? Create a space for a desk that looks onto the studio space for mixing, that way, if you have friends round you can mix for them.

And you're gonna want your pissed up mates stumbling around in a room with your production pc and synths etc in?

It's a studio, not a club.

I've worked in studios for 13 years, trust me, you don't want to mix to a wall. What makes you the expert anyway? 90% of the music in the world is created under the influence of drugs or alcohol, or haven't you been involved in the industry for very long?

Posted by Allen Mueller on Jul-07-2006 22:00:

Agreed

Agreed, try to keep it off the wall if you have the option. I'm against a wall now but i'm moving soon and the first thing i want to dois getoff the wall. Also it will allow you to get some distance between you and your monitors. Near field is one thing but it will sound better and give you more options for speaker placment to get the sound just right.

Just my opinion chap, if you've got experience that goes against that then fair enough.

Tbh my main objection was that his reason for having decks facing away from the wall was so that he could just mix to his mates when they come round - studio priorities should definitely come first, although if you say the requirements for both coincide then that solves that problem!

No need to turn every disagreement into an argument about "who's been doing it longer"

Posted by Aled Mann on Jul-08-2006 10:40:

Thank you for your feedback everyone. To be honest playing to mates isn't really my priority. It's more a work thing than a play thing. Now I just have to build the damn thing!
