Prog Breaks... We Pwned it didn't we...

Was just thinking about this before, and seriously Australia had it covered when it came to Prog breaks a few years ago.

Other than BT & Hybrid, the genre was pretty much covered by...

Hi-Fi Bugs
Lo Step
Chable
Vance Musgrove
Mortar & Pestle
Nubreed
Andy Page
Halogen & Nash-T
Scrambler

Respect!

Ok, back to work for me now

Don't forget Jono, and Infusion have released some breaksy stuff as well. It's a shame I never really liked prog-breaks, cos I think we were definitely in the right city for it...

Posted by Dean Millson on Jun-30-2006 07:47:

Wasn't sure whether to include Infusion but yeah forgot about Jono

I was just thinking back to Sideways at Tilt which we ran throughout 2004 and all the massive PB tunes that were around at the time before. Definately a great time to be in Melburn

Posted by tathi on Jun-30-2006 08:28:

i got a Jono set that was broadcasted on JJJ all with aussie prog breaks tunes, fucking nice!

Posted by Dj_Es-Dva on Jun-30-2006 09:40:

Chable....nuff said...i didnt think prog-breaks exsists anywhere apart from Aus?? chable & bonnici - ride (have a break mix) is teh best...ever

Too bad breaks are SHIT, eh ?

Breakbeat / fractured / broken / random beats are NOT progressive. Thank
god all this shit is pretty much over now. Even Quinny has seen the light and gone back to playing the great 4/4 progressive, that he's known for.

Chable, Phil K, NuBredd, etc .......... meh.

I heard Sean Quinns JJJ mix up on the weekend and it wasn't progressive at all... too much electro for me.

I think it was Nubreed that brought on my love for this sound. They were a whole new genre for me, best performances ever. I also enjoyed Keltec and Dan Mangan at Broken Home quite a few times

I was talking to a breaks DJ about this on the weekend. I wish this sound hadnt of died and yes, it was the MELBOURNE sound.

Jono has some new releases coming out with Meat Katie and remixes for Aquasky and Peace Division. If you want to sample check out his my space page www.myspace.com/jonofernandez

I think if you spoke to Sean you might find it's got nothing at all to do with "seeing the light", but rather the fact that there really isn't anyone writing music like that anymore

I won't even bother commenting on the rest of your post

ok so i can only think of ozgur can and charlie may who else produce non aus prog breaks ?

Posted by Dean Millson on Jul-04-2006 04:11:

Nah, there are nots more...

Shiloh is the obvious one that comes to mind atm

Posted by Dj_Es-Dva on Jul-04-2006 04:21:

yeah but chable is like the 3rd wheel of shiloh

Posted by Dean Millson on Jul-04-2006 04:23:

No he's not.

He's part of 'Tracker' (which is a collaboration with Shiloh), but when Shiloh were producing prog breaks Luke had not even met them.

Posted by Dj_Es-Dva on Jul-04-2006 04:27:

his new works with them like "Oz" are awesome. speaking of which, does page still produce?

Posted by Dean Millson on Jul-04-2006 04:32:

Andy is still producing yes

He's currently working in the UK as a sound engineer/programmer (or something like that). He recently did a track with Sean Quinn called SQAP (which is out on Audio Therapy, and also has a few new things coming out very soon i believe.

Check out www.myspace.com/farmatronic for some samples of his new stuff

Posted by charlee on Jul-04-2006 06:36:

I thought that was chloe? Have you had a sex change? again?

Posted by Dean Millson on Jul-04-2006 06:55:

Chloe and i are actually the same person. Have you ever seen us in the same room together? I actually just got back from supporting Digweed across America for his Transitions tour you see

(there were actually a few of us, and yes Chloe was another)

Posted by Chris_Meth on Jul-04-2006 07:34:

I'm sorry guys, but breakbeat of any kind is just WRONG !

Dunno about Quinny playing electro......... last couple of times
I've seen him out recently, he's played like his old self .... great banging 4/4 progressive.

Don't get me started on this "electro" crap. This shit is the latest blight on the progressive sound.

Posted by tathi on Jul-04-2006 08:36:

breakbeat is almost as shit as genre bashing

but seriously if you think Electro is a blight on the progressive sound you should hear some of the stuff Seb Fontaine is championing now, wow!

Yeah... I heard he's lost the plot & gone all electro kinda weird. Wont be buying any of his stuff, til he sorts himself out and gets back on the progressive track.

Posted by tathi on Jul-04-2006 09:35:

your loss dude, limit yourself to only one or two genres and you're just going to miss out on some incredible music

Posted by Philby on Jul-04-2006 11:43:

dean can you list some recent tunes? i like what i've heard from shiloh in the past, the two tribes 2004 cd by sean quinn is really good, but other than chable and some stuff on vapour i don't really know many of these kind of tunes. check out the one i posted, 'fiord - hybrid', tell me what you think
