Gothic & Dark Electronic Music
I'm searching for something really dark... House/Trance, doesn't matter.
But I need something that can be really scary.
I know Dark Soho and some other psytrance acts but maybe something other then that?
Thanks,
Omer.
a few plastikman tracks from the album consumed are quite fitting for what you're after.. i'm not sure i'd call them house or trance though.
edit: there has been a thread about this same topic about a week ago.. quite long. (though many of the tracks posted were far from scary imo)
I don't mind if it's techno... minimal... I need something gothic.
I'm renewing my collection hehe.
Omer.
try some EBM then.
Is it danceable?
Any good artists?

Future Sound Of London, such as the albums "Lifeforms" and definitely "Dead Cities".
Delerium fits. But really I'de say the older Delerium, before "Poem", when their sound was much darker. Even "Karma" could count since with "Poem", you could tell their sound was getting lighter and more pop-like. Check out "Semantic Spaces", and "Archives Vol 1 & 2". Their older albums are harder to find, with their ambient material, but you should find that in "Archives 1 & 2".
Check out Dead Can Dance. It's not very electronic but their stuff was the epiphany of dark and gothic. I was into their stuff when I went through a small goth and industrial stage around 9th grade. More gothic than even a lot of the goth rock stuff i'de say, because it just sounds dark. Has a dark ages type sound to it.
Nine Inch Nails, Front Line Assemby, Nitzer EB, Psychic TV, VNV Nation, Einstrzende Neubauten, KMFDM or Tool, any of their stuff would fit. A lot of industrial or metal would fit. Yeah sure there's plenty of death or black metal out there, but to me that stuff sounds overly theatrical, even comical.

also check out VNV Nation. not my cup of tea but they have a certain "gothic" aspect to them.

try ned shepherd on blue ....from hybridized.org
Search for Lustmord or Bad Sector - that's scary dark ambient
Also Aphex Twin is quite dark i've heard though I am not that familiar with his work. I've browsed a few of his CDs and they definitely have a detached and somewhat cold feeling to them. Maybe not exactly EVIL but somewhat deranged. They are definitely not warm and fuzzy
I can name also album Xenomorph - Qlippoth (2003), that's dark psy trance. Evil and destructive music with sick basslines and some screaming samples, it seems like music from another planet with ugly aliens ready to tear every other lifeform.
Icon Of Coil, perhaps?

Digweed's GU 019 is very dark, so is Sander's 2001 EM and finally my fave Nubreed 3 and Nubreed 6
No one's mentioned Oliver Prime then?
RebeL9 will probably tell you all about the Digital Blonde...
Almost forgot to mention this!
This thread's just for you!:

That thread was for back when I needed help identifing the very thing you're looking for. Dark Music!!
Hardly any of this shit is gothic you bastards.
Good electronic goth songs:
VNV Nation - Standing (very melodic. If you like forlorn melancholic electronic music you will love it)
VNV Nation - Rubicon (same deal but darker and more hopeless)
VNV Nation - Dark Angel (same deal. Alot of the same instruments too)
VNV NAtion - Joy (seeing a pattern emerging here?)
Velvet Acid Christ - Fun with Knives (used to *kill* dancefloor a number of years ago. Dark and evil)
Velvet Acid Christ - Icon (EBM anthem. Bit of a beaut)
Velvet Acid Christ - Slut (slow breaks tune. Brooding. Awesome piano and wonderful vocals. Lyrics are pretty decent too)
Haujobb - Rising Sun (nother dancefloor killer)
Haujobb - Overflow (one of my favourite songs of all time. Ambience and words. Nothing else. Its perfect)
Skinny Puppy - Spasmolytic (pretty much as sludgy and dark as dance music comes. Nasty stuff)
Skinny Puppy - Mirror Saw (The pinnacle of Last Rights. If you listen to alot of Skuppy the end of this song will break you
)
Project Pitchfork - Steel Rose (dancefloor stomper)
Front Line Assembly - Synthetic Forms (must have been sampled a million times by other EBM artists. A bit good)
Front Line Assembly - Prophecy (also rather good. Shit vocals though but then this is FLA - home of the singing mongoloids.)
Other bands you might like that fit the mould are:
Wumpscut (I personally hate pretty much everything he has ever done)
The Tear Garden (beautiful if you can stand the LISP)
Razed in Black (meh)
Thrill Kill Kult (dont feel it)
Apoptygma Berzerk (dont really dig this stuff either)
etc. etc.

LOLLLLL at these "Gothic" reccomendations ("digital Blonde" gothic?!?!, yea yea and tiesto is playing black metal...)
Only Derivative actually knows the electronic side of goth in here(and probably two more people)! I dig project pitchfork sometimes as well, but a very dark and emotional electro-goth project is "diary of dreams" although they can get very depressive at times...check out their albums...
"Nigredo", "One of 18 Angels", "Freak perfume", "Bird Without Wings" and "the end of flowers" they are all good!
At the dancier side of things i'll suggest an all-time classic 80s EBM album which is
Clock DVA-"Burried Dreams"
(Very hard to find though).More classic EBM albums are:
Front-242- "Tyranny(for you)"
Front-242- "Front By Front"
Front-242- "06:21:03:11 Up Evil"
Front-242- "05:22:09:12 Off"
Cabaret Voltaire- "Conform to Deform '82/'90"
Cabaret Voltaire- "The Original Sound of Sheffield Best off '78/'82"
Cabaret voltaire- "The Original Sound of Sheffield Best Off '83/'87"
And a few fantastic "Electro-goth" albums by a few fantastic early-80s electro-goth (or dark synth-pop, or dark-wave or whatever...) bands.Notice that these are not as heavy as the EBM reccomendations but much more melodic and emotional.Still danceable though.
Clan of Xymox- "Xymox"
Clan of Xymox- "Medusa"(i have a few hundred albums and still this is one of my all-time favorites.A perfect darkly ethereal and emotional synth journey!)
Danse Society- "Heaven is Waiting"
Danse Society- "The Seduction"
Propaganda- "A Secret Wish"
Propaganda- "Outside World"
Deine Lakaien- "Dark Star"
Deine Lakaien- "Forest Enter Exit"
Killing Joke- "Revelations" (an underrated masterpiece...the leader of this band has created a famous psy-trance label in the mid-90s...i think it was "Dragonfly"!)
Killing Joke- "Firedances"
Hope you like some of these...
Aphex twin is pretty dark, as spirit mentioned. Stone in focus in one of my favorite songs by them, not so much evil but very depressing IMHO. Dark star by Delerium is also good, as is the industrial artist Front Line Assembly (Which actually branched off into Delerium as a side project of one of the members). Last Man in the Universe by yahel is one of my favorite dark songs, even though yahel is more psytrancy. Also if you wanna get REALLY old school, there's always 666 and Vangelis (the ending song for Blade Runner is a badass song and dark as hell).
