Mmmmm... oatmeal stout!

The liquor store in my uni's town doesn't have Stella, but it does have Oatmeal Stout..

So, +1 on the Oatmeal Stout.

And to add something to the convo, my friend from Boston brought back some local brews after the Christmas break. I can't recall the name of them, but talk about interesting beers.

it's not really strong..5 % alcohol. rich taste...yummy!!

I quote a review
quote:

This is a dark, almost black beer that is brewed in Tadcaster, England. It is fragrant and complex, and when you look at it and smell it, you will want to treat this drink like a fine wine. Take small sips, swish it around you mouth, and savor the creamy, malty flavor.

Close your eyes and take one whiff of the beer and youll smell chocolate and raspberry... and you will wonder if you are not smelling some kind of dessert.

This is a delicious concoction that I enjoy drinking after dinner. On sunny afternoons, I will also drink this outdoors with a nice, fat cigar. It has a thick light-brown head and a slightly sweet taste that makes for very easy drinking. At 5% alcohol by volume, it really isnt stronger than most American lagers or European style light Pilseners. The taste is altogether different and definitely a nice change of pace.

Do you know what this beer would go great with? Big, fat, soft and chewy oatmeal cookies right from the oven. Mmmm... Good! Now thats what Im talkin about! If you are eating fudge brownies or a triple-chocolate cake and are out of milk, then this, too, is another beverage to try.

I bought a 550 ml bottle of Oatmeal Stout at Trader Joes Market for under $2.50 -- a great deal. This is a yummy beer that I find to be more tasty than Guinness Extra Stout, and for all those dark beer drinkers out there: try this one on for size.

although i must mention i bought it for $ 3.28 which is pretty expensive for a bottle of beer

hoegaarden > blue moon

framboise lambic > most

Posted by tubularbills on Jul-02-2006 03:38:

Blue Moon isn't all that unusual. it's good w/ an orange wedge [like Blvd].

I'm drinking this stuff called "Old Peculiar". it's a Scottish/English blend or something like that. pretty good.

Also, recommend "Dinkel Acker". not only is it good [especially the dark], but it's funny to say

I don't know how unusual they are but, my favorite beers are Red Stripe and Peroni. They're so good to me, it makes me wish I drank beer more often.

Some fun ones I really like are doppel biersch, Maudite, delerium nocturnum, old peculier, Duvel of course, Arrogant Bastard, Double Arrogant, vertical epic, bombardier is mainly cool because of bottle but still a good beer, London Pride is good, dogfish head 90 minute 90 ipa and some 16% ale, bigfoot ale, mac and jacks. those are the higher end of the shelf. I recently tried a bunch of Ommegang and enjoyed it. the next one I am going to try is Three Philosophers

Posted by Sunsnail on Jul-03-2006 04:03:

Belgian beer is great

hoegaarden ya!

Posted by Orbax on Jul-03-2006 04:09:

also, sam smiths are pretty damn good for their price. I think they are one of the more modest beers out there as in they ask what they are worth. Their nut brown is my favorite. For some reason the oatmeals and chocolates have never really appealed to me :\
