The 2006 NBA Offseason Thread

let the dealings and reelings begin.

'melo gets a contract extension . well deserved.
and the raptors and bucks make a surprising trade. tj ford goes to toronto, while charlie villanueva goes to milwaukee. in my opinion, this helps both teams, as mike james can now play the shooting guard spot, while morris peterson can play his natural small forward position. as for milwaukee, this could be very interesting, as it looks like milwaukee is confident mo williams can perform well as a starter. he was an awesome 6th man for them the past couple of years.

1) wtf are the hornets trying to become the kings of the south (peja + bobby jackson + byron scott?). They may as well trade for c=webb and get vlade outta retirement lol. but that team w/ CP3 is gonna be a force, which means bad news for utah and golden state.

2) the kings made out like bandits in the peja/artest trade.

3) apparently nene is getting a large extension along w/ melo. if both underperform denver is gonna have some serious salary cap woes.

watch out for NO next year i guess

edit: can i nominate myself to be the kings rep on TA?

BIG BEN TO CHICAGO ZOMG!

Posted by LeopoldStotch on Jul-05-2006 02:59:

i am shocked myself that big ben is going to chicago. a surprise.

to replace big ben, detroit quickly signs nazr mohammad. smart move. he's not the dominant figure as big ben, but he can post those double doubles on a consistent basis.

and peja to the hornets? that is a surprise to me, knowing that the hornets payroll isn't really that great. signing him and re-signing byron scott means there is a very bright future for the hornets. peja, west, and paul make a good combination.

The Mavs do a dumb trade and move Daniels for Austin Croshere
lets see...a potential starter for a white guy worse than Van Horn...

Clippers are a joke for chasing after Tim Thomas insted of signing Radmanovic.

***Blazers sign Prazbilla for 30 mil'X6 years which i think is a good move cuz anyone needs a Center like Joel - he will be an asset for our team...

The Hornets made some pretty idiotic moves IMO, Peja Stojakavic?? Tyson Chndler?? Bobby Jackson instead of Claxton? what good will that do?.
They will be injured most of the time and even when they are healthy you cant trust Peja to deliever under pressure nor trust Chandler to be a solid Center throughout the entire season...
They should have waited, but im glad they didnt

apparentyl the kings offered bonzi wells 5 years/36 mill.

although id rather see bonzi in a sign and trade i kind of like this number, except the 5 years part (3, maybe 4 woulda been a better number IMO.) id like bonzi on my team but it wont be disasterous if he doesnt sign on...just imagine cavs fans right now w/ the lebron extension

anyhow, anyone have any feelings on bonzi wells?

there were suggestions for a while that he was going to go there from commentators over here. should be interesting to see the Bulls next year if they keep the rest of their squad. played quite well against Miami i thought.

ditto. i think a team of hinrich, wallace, noicioni, deng, and gordon could go a long way. especially with the bulls deep bench, with duhon, sweetney, songalia, and etc ...

Posted by svens_bath on Jul-10-2006 03:06:

by the way any talks about moves from people like Iverson? there was some talk about him maybe moving on..ie. hes taken the franchise as far as he can

also Garnett? similar situation..someone wanting a ring.

supposedly, the Bulls made an offer of Chandler, Deng, Tyrus Thomas & somebody else for Garnett...guess that didn't work out.

i dunno what but something about ty thomas makes me think he has "bust" written all over him

this guy is pretty raw imo. another marvin williams. then again, he could do some small things, then breakout like josh smith. but this guy is young, and playing in a position dominated by some pretty good forwards out there.

anyone have any summer league notes?

1) andrea bargnani got 10 fouls in like 28 min against the kings lol... otherwise i heard hes been looking good.

2) renaldo balkman sounds like a rebounding machine?

2) kevin martin of the kings has been absolutely dominant in the summer leagues. might this translate to a possible sign and trade involving bonzi wells?

Brandon Roy is playing stellar in the summer league. I have really good feelings about this guy. I'm thinking Grant Hill type of game, off guard who can handle the ball and do everything well. I'm excited.

Randy Foye is looking really good too as a scoring point guard. Not really my type of PG (Starbury, Telfair, etc) but Minn needs scoring to help KG.

Bargnani is looking like he's gonna score but I've been reading he's still really shy to do any rebounding, blocking shots, banging inside. He's like a really tall small forward.

Kevin Martin is a good source for a sleeper next year in fantasy basketball.

trade rumor FWIW:

grant napear on kings radio reports taht theres gonna be a massive 6 team trade tomrorow possibly involving AI going to boston

forget the rumor but will AI and p-cubed get along?

there are a lot of talks about AI and boston. if this happens, then danny ainge will automatically win GM of the year. AI may be past his peak years, but he still has some good engine left in him. a big thing is being delonte west's mentor. i am sure if pierce can get along with antoine walker and gary payton, then he can get along with AI .

lol. Went to high school with him. Weirdest-looking mofo evar. His shoulders were like 10X the width of his waist, but he had no muscle whatsoever.

He'll fit right in.

Posted by LeopoldStotch on Jul-15-2006 23:15:

from ESPN reports at the summer camps, i heard

-Bargnani looks pretty solid
-Adam Morrison struggled here and there with his shot selections,
-Marcus Williams has been playing superb ball.
-Boston's young crew of Telfair, West, Perkins, and et al. has been tearing things up.

Posted by LeopoldStotch on Jul-15-2006 23:19:

my sleeper picks for next year to watch out for are (and will crack the top 50 nba list):

Josh Smith
Kevin Martin

Andre Igoudala(if AI leaves the sixers, i expect him to start putting up Scottie Pippen type of numbers)
Jameer Nelson

he'll be a great player but his numbers may be deflated if bonzi wells resigns, as he'll be coming off the bench. i expect him to score around 15 ppg w/ bonzi, 17-20 w/o.
