AVB/ATB White Party review!

Didnt end up at the Menno after party or avalon, went with some people who got really tired! So, let us begin. To make it simple, ATB Kicked AVB's ASS. AVB seemed like he had an agenda with his set, he didnt even play anything to make the crowd go crazy till 1:30am, and by then, everyone was so disapointed at his set so far, that it didnt matter too much what he played. However, he ALWAYS had a smile on his face and that really helped bring the mood up bigtime. Its always nice to see a DJ who really wants people to enjoy themselves, and he does this very well. His set sucked tho, plain and simple.

Once ATB got on stage, he BLEW it up! He was playing mega hit after mega hit, his own songs and other remixes.. THATS what a trance set should sound like! The first hour of armins set felt like 2 1/2 hours, the first hour of ATB's set felt like 20 minutes, it was THAT good! He also put on a great show for the crowd and LOVED it when the crowd was into it and screaming out! I just couldnt be happier that ATB was there to save the day, armin is a great guy but his set was very "eh". ATB is now the 2nd best act ive EVER seen live, right behind Matt Darey.

you must be joking, if your not then... wow armin made ATB look like a helpless child

Edit... this is STARBOY

No offense with the ATB's tracklist, which was awesome, but his mixing was a complete trainwreck.

I LOL'd at the way Armin was reviewed. That pretty much described his set @ Armada night during WMC this year. Total, boring monotonous SHIT. ATB is a great producer, HORRIBLE DJ, but I'd still rather see him over Armin anyday.

How did Kristina do?

i couldnt stay for ATB - it got too damn hot and sweaty.. nasty. Didn't make it to the afters either.. even having bought a ticket. :<

I thought Kristina banged it out too hard.. if I had no idea who was playing that night, I might as well have thought she was the headliner! I liked what she played though - it was just not the kind of "opening" set I was expecting. The guy before her played pretty fast too, I thought. Is that how it normally is?

I got some pics up over here:

HappyHappy

First off who ever planed Armin's tour secdule is He was in the OC on Thursday.. then flys to Chicago then flys back to LA to Fly to MIA to fly back to SF. I know Armin is a rock star but come on! All that commin and goin has to take a toll on someone with the jet leaggy alone.
Despite all the Traveling when Armin takes the decks in any venue; people just go crazy. No matter what he plays. He just smiles throws his hands up and wam people are happy and alive and just want to dance. th

Last night Armin did not play what I tought was the greatest set ever..Blitzofspeed you say his set staterd out "slow" but I love how Armin starts out that way.. with a more progressive feel then hits you with that energy. His Frist track was "Shipwreck" at lesat that is what some girls where screamin. What an amazing Track to start the night off with. So beautiful. After that in my mind I knew that last night was to be amazing and a super duper fun night! and it was.

Spundae was PACKED! and 90% of the people had some white on. It was so amazing to see the room with a sea of white. When armin takes over the decks the front get rammed with people. It was too much to handle the very front due to the pushing and the heat. It was TOO TOO hot at Spundae. I know the air was on but when the room gets packed like that it become a sweat box. So the hour of preperation to look nice goes right out the window Armin starts off with a progressive feel. I loved it but then again I love that progressive trance sound. It was not boring or slow eaither imo. It was just right. I saw the wrost armin set at Space during WMC. And this set was nothing like that. There was a lot of energy behind all the Great tracks he played.
When he played ContolFreak and Beautiful the crowd went nuts. Hands where in the air people all around me where happy. Everyone was dancing and having a great time. And that is what is all about really. The music and comming together in an enviroment where everyone pretty much lets their hair done and becomes their True "self" Where you can excape reality for a few hours and just be free. Last night it was not about IDing every single track Armin played it was just about the music and being surronded by the best people around.

Right when Armin came on Kris and I busted out the hearts we made so people could hold them up or use them as fans. Armin appercated that. It odvious that Armin loves what he does and appericates all his fans. He knows that with out us he would not be where he was today. He took time to shake hands and sign autograps.

Around 1:20ish I leave my spot so I could go support Scott in the back room. But before I go I head to the back of of the room where the go go table was at. Get on it.. whip out the Holand flag like a dork and hold it up high so Armin could see. I have no idea if it was the right way.. it looked like it to me.. or even if he saw it. But I do not care! I just wanted to be random and said why not. After that I went to the side where the light guy normaly is and held it up there too! It was Great.

At 1:30 I got to the back room.. aaaaahhhh air! Scott takes over the decks after Jeffery Allen and wow! The room becomes a live and Scott lays down this awsome funky electro set! WOW. I loved the funky dirty beats comming out of the speakers. Amazing job Scott. But I had to go outside to cool off for a bit.

And when I did ATB just walked in. Aj asked me to take his wife to the bathroom so I did and then when we where outside I saw the oppertunity to get a picture with him. A very cool guy took an amazing one of me and ATB while Aj took on with a random girl in it. But I still got it. They went to VIP upstairs and I went with. I took out my ATB the Dj box I had and asked to sign it. I have heard bad stories that he was rude or what not. He is a little stand offish but he singed my Cd box.
WHOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! After 4 years I fianlly have a picure and autograph with the top 10 Dj's in the world!!! I know it sounds silly but I have this crazy gole to get the top 100 dj's picturs and autograps.

ATB takes over the decks and throws down this amazing beautiful track. It sounded like the Trance played during the golden years. I just wanted to stay and admire its beauty but I was set on supporting Scott I ran to the back room.. but he was done so I ran back to the mainroom. I have never seen ATB before and wanted to see what this guy was all about and kind get a feel to why he is #10.

ATB can not mix worth shit. I do not know if you call what he was doing "mixing". There where awful breaks b/w each track. He would just move the volume control up and down.. no beat matching what so ever. But man the tracks he was laying down where AMAZING! \o/ \o/. Again it sounded like Trance from the golden years and was "pure" Trance. I danced there with a huge smile on my face and arms up in the air. It was the sound that made me fall in love with Trance years ago and make me still love it today. I was taken away to my happy little Trance world.

Behind the decks ATB had this enegry as well. He was getting people pupmed up to dance and interacting with the crowd. He played his one Depech song and the room went NUTS singing the words on the top of their lungs with arms in the air! It was so amazing!! Then he threw down tracks I have not heard in years. Maybe that is why a lot of people like him so much.. he plays that those tracks that even non tranceheads who used to be Tranceheads liked.

After the lights go on it was time to head over to the after party. I was told that Menno got deported back home due to the wrong visa. I was a little bummed out since I have never seen him before but heard great things about him. But ish happens. It sucks for him to get all the way over hear to get sent back home though. That is a long ass flight. But I was not going to let that dappen my mood. With Great local tallent still on the decks I knew it was still going to be a great event.

I really enjoyed the after hours. it was a lot better then AHP by far. It was a great place to hang out with friends that I did not get to see most of the night as well. The music was great across the board. And I got my second wind. Kris and I where going to leave at 6. But we ended up staying untill 9am since we where talken to everybody and wanted to support Gil. It was at 8am that I got a little Freaked out by a serious serious crackhead He would not even leave me alone even with other guys around me. He was so Groos and sweaty. EWWW. he was dancing with me real close and even kissed my belly After that it was outside for the rest of the event.

I had such a great time at Spundae last night! I met some really awsome nice people from myspace and hung and danced with the best TA's around!

Thank you Spundae for throwing such a amazing event!! Lets do this again more offten!

I will post my pictures soon!

Wow, that's a bummer about Menno. Sounds like the night was action packed though, as expected. =]

I enjoyed ATB's set more than Armins. Like everyone else said, his tracks were amazing! His mixing is not the greatest, but you know what? I don't care. He's one of those DJs that mixing is not as important. His vibe was amazing.

The crowd chating his name brought back a lot of memories. Unfortunately, I didn't stay the whole time. I did go to the afterhours, but that was more about socializing than anything else. So did ATB played 9pm til I Come?

ATB ATB ATB ATB ATB ATB ATB

ATB Rocked the HOUSE. I could care less about his mixing, he was playing back to back awesome tunes, crowd was going nuts and yes, that depeche mode song.. SICKNESS. He made that whole night worth it. The people i took with me called me today and all we could talk about was ATB and how amazing his set was, and about how average if even that AVB's set was. Honestly, if i want to go to a club and just bob my head and never dance, i'd go to somewhere playing house. I go to a trance event to get into an amazing mood with crazy beats and high energy! ATB brought that. Sucks about menno tho, good thing i didnt end up at that after party.

Posted by sr22 on Jul-03-2006 04:25:

I was severely dissapointed by Armin's set, not only was it short, but it was like... the same tracks he's played on his ASOT's for the past 3 weeks to a month, felt like i was in my car listening to my ipod. I just wasn't into his set at all, and im a HUGE fan of him. I miss his long sets where he would dive into some dark or house then come back to the trancy tunes...haven't got that for a while.

I definately liked KSky's and ATB's set a whole lot more, they were flat out awesome.

How did the afterparty go? I left at like 6am, cuz i was soo tired, hungry and just worn out. Did Menno show? I heard he had some problems with customs.

Angry VERY BAD NIGHT

Hey all I just wanted to tell everyone about my experience @ the White Party.

I dont know who it was or what there motives were but last night someone put something in one of my drinks! I've never taken E, or acid I simply dont use any kind of drugs. This night has really raised some doubts in my mind about continuing to club!

I arrived last night around 10:45 and met up with Michelle, Kris, Ben, Lindsey and Chris (all TA's). We were up front watching the kristina sky set. I ordered my first drink (redbull & vodka) upstairs in the house lounge around 11:15. I went back down and danced till about 11:50 because Armin was coming on @ 12. I ordered another drink and drank 1 bottled water and took another with me back to the dance floor. Around 12:30 I got 2 more bottled waters and took them to Michelle on the dance floor. I remember checking my phone and it was 1:27 when I ordered my 3rd (final) drink and 2 more bottled waters. It was so hot down on the main floor that I stayed up in the house room dancing. I asked a group of people to please watch my drink and waters. Huge mistake!!!! When I returned to the table they were gone but my drink and waters were still there. I finished my drink and had a bottled water. The last thing I remember was sitting down in the House room about 1:50. After that everything is a total blank. I dont know where I was or what I was doing. I dont know how I got downstairs or even outside of the club. The only thing I do remember is that some time after the club closed I was sitting outside (maybe in the parking lot)group of people approached me and asked me if I needed help. I remember one of them saying "dude look @ his eyes he is totally f**ked up on something." That how I know I wasnt just drunk! I remember getting into the front seat of there car. And then total blank again. I woke up this morning around 9 in my car with my seat reclined and the doors locked. I can only guess that they drove me around until I was able to locate my car and they helped me get in. The keys were in the glovebox so I asume they hid them from me so I couldnt drive.

I am really thankful that things turned out alright except that I feel like total and utter crap today. I am thankful for the kind group of strangers who were willing to help me when I was unable to help myself, without them I probably would have woken up in the drunk tank or something even worse! Words cant describe how angry I am about last night. It was my first clubing experience up in Hollywood and probably my last. What should have been a great night with the White theme and Armin and ATB turned out to be the scariest night of my life.

I just felt I should tell my experience to remind everyone how careful you have to be when your out clubbing! Never leave your drink or even set it down!!!

Posted by Rasidel Slika on Jul-03-2006 04:46:

oh my god man, sorry to hear about that!! that sucks!! glad to hear some ppl were looking out for you and you are ok!! very true, be very careful with your drinks!! this applies to anywhere you go!

Posted by DjWoody on Jul-03-2006 04:53:

Sorry to hear that. Same thing happened to my friend last summer at Spundae.

Posted by TSG on Jul-03-2006 04:53:

I too was disappointed by AVB's set... oh well, can't be great all the time I guess. I liked ATB's set alot better and it seemed more people were into it too. Lets not forget Cody Lee, he rocked as usual.
4:score did a pretty good job upstairs as well as the DJs in the back room.
I couldn't get into the music like I usually do. Must have been cuz it was really packed & way too hot.

As for the afterparty... well I sure made up for it there! Place was much cooler, the music was really good and I sure danced my booty off! I gotta say that GIL tore it up! His set was something I was needing all night!

Posted by philippe on Jul-03-2006 05:09:

Even better: Like me, don't drink!

Anyway, I flew back from San Francisco (awesome time at EDT Love, but that's for another thread) just in time to make a surprise appearance for the last hour of the Official After Party

Between all the people dressed in white and the sun, sunglasses were in order (sorry about that, LaLaGirl ). Maybe that's why I found the venue too dark and stripped down (e.g., someone pointed out the lack of seats). At least the sound was good. The patio outside was the best part; really nice place to socialize with friends

So it sounds like Armin played his usual business set (though I was told that he sucked much less than Thursday in Newport). I don't understand why people seem surprised by that! He's here every 3 months and always plays Aramada material; more Coldharbour/EE than Armind/ASOT; i.e. boring (I bet he didn't even play Arisen which is being released next week). So yes, if you listen to his radio show, don't expect anything much different in his live shows

As for ATB, it sounds like the same as last time in terms of great tracks and no real mixing. At least he didn't MC himself this time from what I heard

Oh and yeah, bummer about Menno, especially for Starboy and Stargirl

They don't sound like bootyguard material to me

I'm curious too, since it was only a little over 2 months ago that she wrote on the Spundae boards that she would "gladly challenge ANY DAY OF THE WEEK, Armin, PVD, Ferry and others"...

I'm going to have to disagree with you, since it seems like you're ignorant of AvB's 'usual' Before he started touring, and would do shows in LA/SD, his sets were 3hr + , and he would rock the house, NOTHING like ASOT.

Can you explain what you mean by "before he started touring"

Posted by sr22 on Jul-03-2006 09:59:

2-3yrs ago when he wasn't nearly as big here in cali as he is now, he used to spin 3-4+ hr plus sets. Where his sets and tracks would progress to his different tastes. Now its just...a live version of ASOT it seems, which ok, but when he had more time in the past, he was much better live than he is now.

Maybe someone can chime in that has seen him live before then.

Dance Valley, 6 hours.

Good set.

It was a great night at Spundae, I thought Armin and ATB were the perfect combo. 4 hours of headliner insanity. Loved the extra production for the White theme.
Cody and I had a lot of fun warming up the floor. It was great to play back to back with Cody again. I looove his energy behind the decks and he knows exactly how to warm a room up with the right tunes.
Armin's energy is infectious, not many can deny that. He loves playing and it shows. As soon as he went on the room lit up like crazy, everything just moved up a notch.
I love that he is technically on point every set (I've seen countless). He is still one of the most consistent DJs as far as that goes imo
ATB also had great energy once again, he loves the tunes he's playing and he really knows how to take the crowd through a spectrum of trance ranging from the later 90's - current also weaving in his massive anthem hits (don't lie, you know you all used to like 9pm Til I come and Don't Stop ) He knows what the crowd wants to hear and he plays it. Not only does he play it but he is always moving and always smiling. He signed a ridiculous amount of autographs while he was playing, everything from $100 bills to cell phones to watches to napkins to drivers licenses' to vinyls...

Armin and ATB bring all sorts of people out of the woodwork. It was nice to see so many new faces.

It was a loooong night, but overall an amazing time. I hope everyone else had a good time, and I'm really sorry to hear about the guy who was drugged (slkvin sp?) That is horrible! Didn't you come with friends?? Glad to know that you are okay though.. I hope it won't keep you away from clubbing and only makes you more careful!

I defintely hope this event happens yearly from now on. It's been a delayed reaction on the part of L.A. promoters to not get an idea like this into effect years ago, but thank god Spundae stepped up and made it happen.
It may not be "sensation white", but it was our own mini version and a 4000 person white party is not a bad start

Posted by blitz6speed on Jul-03-2006 12:29:

There most DEFINETLY needs to be another white party. I was really close up to the DJ booth 99% of the time, and whenever i looked back, it was a sea of white! Very nice. There were your usual people who didnt go with the white theme, but whatever, the people i went with and myself were in 100% white, and had a blast. Kristina, i only got to hear a little bit of your set, but it was quite good.

There needs to be a HUGE LA white party with Tiesto, PVD, ATB, Matt Darey & More for a 10+ hour lineup! That would be freakin amazing if someone where to organize something of that nature. Or Avalon could throw a Black party to counter spundaes attempt! I'd go to them all!
