Whatever you do, DO NOT use VIA Rail. I had a fuckin' Nightmare getting to and back from Montreal with them and I got there 4 hours late and no money back. Take the bus dude.

If you were 4 hours late they definatly would have given you money back!! I think you have up to 6 months to claim it - with a reciept.

I forget how it works, but it's something if your trip is say 4 hours, and it's late by 2 hours you get half your money back. You'd have to double check...but I know you DO get money back.

IMO viarail is definatly the way to go. Their prices have gone up a bit which kinda sucks...but it's definatly a lot more comfortable, quicker and more reliant than the greyhound. (Though greyhound isn't that bad either).

If you're a student...grab an ISIC card and you get benefits - you can book a ticket for a student price whenever (whereas if you don't have an ISIC card you have to book at least 2 weeks in advance to get the student rate). In addition you can cancel the ticket and make changes at no cost (whereas without the ISIC card there are penalties on some tickets).

sorry to hear that... i've traveled to montreal and back with via about 4 times so far, and have always been on time...

Take VIA1 first class, get a full 3 course meal + unlimited bar and WiFi service.

Well worth the trip.

took Greyhound to Mtl for this past New Years. Wasnt bad, but I think next time I'll either rent a car, or take VIA.

This is pretty rare.
Bus trips are generally more susceptible to delays due to weather and traffic.

I had a small delay on one trip back from Montreal in December of 05, but every other time has been pretty smooth. Even when there is a delay, it's still usually shorter than the bus.

I really like everything about ViaRail actually - the trip is only 4.5 hours and the seats are 100x more comfy and roomy than on greyhound, and it's just a really nice trip to chill out, read, write, etc.

It was my First trip using Via Rail and it just left a very bad impression on me. Considering their lack of refund it was a little overwhelming. But one can see for themselves. I just hope that they have better luck than I did.

This should not have been the case...I'm not sure if you read my post earlier...but there definatly should have been a refund given to you. If this trip was within the past 6 months I believe they'll still give it to you. Call customer service and inquire about it.

I was on a train that was 2 hours late going from Windsor to Toronto and since it was half of the original trips length (4hrs) I got half of my ticket price back. If it was over 4 hours late I was told I would get a full refund.

I've always had great service from them. In fact I was given an online coupon once and still had a via 6 pack left. I asked them if the coupon expired and they said it didn't. When I went to use it (over a year after I had recieved the coupon) I was told that it had expired. I called customer service and told them that I was previously informed otherwise, and they gave me a new one.
